####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######

------

Love this one!! Definitely needed after the last episode! XD

I get very confused with the title of the episode... but I work out why by the end. XDI also get hyper obsessed with the animation that they are watching at one point! I think there may be a reference (or a massive coincidence) in a horror movie that came out a couple of years ago!

I was SO sus of the guidance councillor... but I DEFINITELY didn't see 'her' coming! XD

Hope you guys are having a great week!

As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to  download it first.  This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

I have seen Skinamarink! Definitely the kinda movie where you have to be fully immersed. Lights off, phone off, and no distractions imo. I thought it was great, and it’s probably the fact that its a VERY Visual movie which means it isn’t for everyone. I wasn’t expecting it to be a reference to this episode though!

VeggieGamer

Oh absolutely! I couldn't imagine watching Skinamarink during the day! XD Haha! Glad you liked it!!

I much prefer psychological horror movies to other types of horror. Will check out Skinamarink. Haven't seen a good scary movie in ages

Don't worry, you articulated why you didn't enjoy the last episode very well. I do think that the feelings you described having about the Trio and the Buffy/Spike relationship are very much intentional though. The title of this episode (without the small included lol) is taken from a quote from 'The Empire of the Sun'. You can hear Dawn's teacher discussing the book before she gets pulled out of class. I'm pretty sure Xander was referencing a Twilight Zone episode when he mentioned the cornfield. I won't say more in case you haven't watched it.

"Dawn's the Key!" Yeah, Veggie, we've known that since the monk told us in "No Place Like Home". *SHHEESHH* ;-)

Punitive damages are extra payments awarded to victims of wrongdoing to punish the defendants and deter similar acts.

VeggieGamer

Thanks! I watched it earlier, really awesome! Weirdly no proper ending, but I guess some animations were like that back then! XD

The Actress who played Halfrek is the same one who played Cecily, the girl who rejected William/Spike in "Fool for Love." *You're beneath me*

I would never use wrestling, especially WCW, as a barometer of what TV shows were doing because that's not what they were. We never watched WCW because of how ridiculous it was, but the crud we saw on WWE, I certainly never would have expected to see on a "real" TV show. Actual TV shows from that time, did not treat sexual assault as completely comical, and if they did, they certainly weren't the shows I was watching. That's what I don't get about the argument, which I think mostly comes from younger people who weren't watching shows around that time. Also, I don't find the guidance counselor conversation suspect. The guidance counselor is 100% there for the student. What I do find odd is that they took so long to follow up. One of my counselors had a conversation with me that lasted a few hours (about a very serious topic), and she followed up not that long after. Most students only really see them when they need to for class scheduling purposes, but their jobs are way more involved than just that. How sad that they're all ignoring Dawn. As much as I dislike her, it's just sad to see that no one can take a minute to pay attention.

I think if it weren't for his poker kittens, Clem might be my fav Buffy minor character.

I'm in my 30s and watched Buffy back in the day, and I do remember how SA and in particular the objectification of women was treated more trivially in media back then, from TV shows and movies to commercials and other advertisements.

I don't think you're a Dawn apologist tbh. She can be a little obnoxious sometimes, but we could say that about most of our main cast. I really like Dawn and find her to be entertaining and easy to sympathize with. The couple of singing lines she got before she was captured in the musical episode made it clear to me that, yes, her chronic stealing is indeed a cry for attention. As for Buffy and Spike, I can give my perspective as someone who 'ships' them in the sense that I find their relationship (not just season 6, but the whole series) complex and fascinating. From a writing standpoint, I could do an entire essay on Spike/William as a character, comparing and contrasting him to Liam/Angelus/Angel, who I also find fairly fascinating. I can't really say much at this point, but I can say you're not meant to be happy or comfortable with the way things are going right now with Buffy and Spike. Just because I enjoy their arc as a whole doesn't mean I approve of how things are between them and the way they're treating each other. It's one of those classic cases of this series giving certain fans what they want, but not the way they want it. They did the same thing when they got Xander and Willow 'together' in season 3, but made it so they were cheating on Oz and Cordelia. I'm sure the Willow/Xander supporters weren't thrilled about that relationship either. The Buffy writers always loved playing with the fans' feelings.

The movie Jackie Brown starred Pam Grier, who also played the role of Foxy Brown in the 1974 film of the same name. I will say I don't always find season 6 to be entertaining to watch, but I do find it challenging though and I kind of like challenging in some of my media.

I'm in my late 30s, didn't watch Buffy when it aired (no one I knew did), watched a crap ton of TV that was aimed to the same age, and didn't see it in shows. Movies and commercials are entirely different entities, and there is still a ton of it in those. I still wouldn't say that they treated rape trivially, though. Sex sells, and many women are A-OK with it nowadays anyway. I was going through all the shows I watched that touched the rape topic, and not a single one treated it trivially. I feel that the previous episode of Buffy treated it far more trivially than anything I watched in the 90s. Some shows even had the person who was raped be a main character of the show, too, unlike Buffy. I'm not going to bring it up anymore because I know that saying the show wasn't really that forward-thinking really upsets the Stans. Why people would think a complete a-hole of a creator would create such a progressive anti-different types of horrible actions show is beyond me, though. This is truly not the show I would give as to one that I would watch for any message. It's truly a watch for entertainment value.
