The only thing Zuko has wanted this entire series is his father's love and acceptance. His allying with Azula was obvious and inevitable. He finally got the chance to get everything he wanted. There's no way he was going to turn it down.

Had to pause my DW marathon once I saw this post 😂 There's something so special about seeing beloved characters "lose." maybe it's just trauma bonding 😭😂 but you just want to hold them tighter n protecc harder 🤣 Hope you're doing better Veggie n sweet Wooz is full of treats lol Edit: also Katara was amazing in this honesty - sometimes her bending can get overshadowed but she was great N the way Iroh lays down his arms 😩😩 plus the Dai Li are basically secret police - I don't think they had much morality to begin with, and knew the fire nation was coming anyway.

Hm reread it but still don't see it that way. We "lost" at the end of the ep, n I mentioned character arc of two antagonists. Assuming you are talking about the latter stuff tho so I'll just edit it out in case.

Oh no, I know what the "delay" will be ahahaha... I love that you are empathetic towards Zuko despite being disappointed. I respect the show so much for letting him make that decision. It makes him so real. The psychology in this is insanely accurate

As dissapointed as I am with Zuko I do understand his decision. As was already pointed out Azula played the "this will make father proud card" and that is what he always wanted! But while I was dissapointed with Zuko, but can we talk about Iroh? He knew that helping Katara and Aang to get away, he did not only have to face the Dai Lee and Azula but also Zuko - who is like a son to him. And he still chose that route. I love that man with all my heart! I kinda get the Dai Lees decision. They were indoctrined to follow power. The "there is no war in Ba Sing Se" line is a way to gaslight the populace and keep the powerful in power. Everyone who is actually working at the top of that system understands that. And they are not in any way patriotic (not even the warbed "our land is so awesome we have to keep it as is and make sure the 10% on top stays as it is and fuck everyone else" patriotic), because if they cared for that they would have stayed with the earth king. No, they were trained and groomed to rever power - and Azula is power! So I get why they betrayed douchebag dude (I already forgot his name...) He was the one who taught them that power is the most important thing, so he dug his own grave... At least that is how I read that situation...

Love love love this episode its my absolute favorite season ending, I was blown away as a kid when they didn't somehow win at the end and just loved it. This is the episode I have heard compared to empire strikes back, you had compared the last one to it though, but as someone who hasn't seen it if its anything like the last 2 episodes here its gotta be the best one lol. When you said toph needs a staff I imagined Edward Elrics weapon in full metal alchemist, if you havent seen it I highly recommend it, not really a spoiler since its in the title but he uses alchemy which can change how metal appears and honestly it would be badass for toph to get something like that going on. So happy you enjoyed the episode even if left disappointed in zuko, iroh though man, MVP to me hes definitely my favorite of this season and the whole series lol. What will happen to his tea shop now, all those poor customers. 😥

One detail I don't know if you caught, was when Aang is falling after being struck by Azula, you can see a burn scar on his foot. This is from where her lightning exited his body to ground itself.

3 favourite moments in this episode: "Dont flatter yourself, you werent even a player" Azula really is a bad mother effer "Actually, its more of a demonstration" Iroh is also a bad mother effer I also love tophs little wave when they open the door to iroh. Its a shame what happened to ang but it'll be worth it when Kendra the new avatar turns up

When Iroh and Zuko were running I don't think Azula missed... I think Iroh send that lightning to make a hole in the wall.

Fun fact: this cliffhanger is what prompted 10 year old me to seriously learn english back in the day. I'd seen the show up until here in german, and our TV channels wouldn't have season 3 for another 6 months, so I basically taught myself english just for the ATLA torrents you could find online. I've seen this comparison that really hit home for me: imagine Zuko as a recovering drug addict, he's crashed, he's gone through rehab, it was ugly, but finally he has a positive outlook on the future again. In comes Azula with a bag of fucking heroin. That's what happened here.

Oh nooooo. I caught up with the most recent episode! No more Atla binging for me now. I watched Atla back in the days when it first released. It defined my first few years of school and I remember playing with a good friend of mine and pretending to bend the elements and riding on Appa (while sitting on ping pong tables outside). It was my favourite show back then and is still to this day tbh. Especially when they started to really tell a story for more than one episode. I love Zukos arch and believe me, we ALL were disappointed in him but I also understand why he chose to stick with Azula. And it's a realistic portrail of his issues to be quiet frank. So excited for the last season wich is arguably MY favourite season!

ATLA does a great job of increasing our character's abilities subtly but believably. Katara is no slouch. Remember that. Looking forward to Book 3! I'm excited to see your reaction to all of the biggest moments!

I used to hate this turn for Zuko, but I understand why he did it, and I've come to accept it. Though I do love the fanfics where he joins the Gaang here lol

One thing i love about this series and Korra is lightning is no joke. Most other shows would have the electrical attacks hurt but not lethal but avatar makes it clear lightning is death you dodge it, redirect it or die not third option. Thank heavens for spirit water curing death but our stock has now ran out :-O
