I tried to be positive, but I was full furious by the end. XD

Also, everyone saying people's names incorrectly somehow affected my brain into calling Ozai 'Izao' 🙃 Sorry about that (in my defence, I was VERY annoyed at this point XD).

It actually had me second guessing myself into thinking maybe that happened in the show when it 100% didn't! XD

What is the WORST thing about this movie? I give a few at the end, but it is genuinely hard to crack down.

I was so excited at the start... XD

Enjoy your weekend more than I enjoyed this film! XD

CR Ash

Finally... some good f-ing movies 😂😂😭😭/j Thank you for suffering for us Veggie!! Much love!!

Jordan McLaren

Oh boy 💀 I'm sorry you had to suffer through this Veggie lol

Cinnamon troll

The title got me confused for a second ahahaha

loftypenalty91

Oh no, I'd hoped you'd never see this travesty.

VeggieGamer

Haha, yeah I just noticed that myself and changed it! XD (I guess Christ 'kinda' was the last Airbender, maybe?? Water at least).

CDMellow

But, but WHYYY?!?! Why did you do this to yourself?

Shiro523

There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.....

Callum James

You'll be in my prayers tonight Veggie, stay strong. I'm not even religious, this is how bad this "movie" is.

Time

I forgot about this and should’ve known when you said there would be a small gap in between season 2 and 3, and now you’ve finally experienced it. Some movies are so bad they are good. This isn’t one of them😭

Jake M

Is this considered self torture? 😬 You just reminded me to watch book 2 finale, thanks! But maybe I should watch this first and end on a high... XD

Steven

Oh gosh… Time to remind myself how bad this is

Cari Ann

That wasn't a good movie, but the effects were decent.

VeggieGamer

You are right! I am CLINGING to the positives by the end, and the bending generally looked great!

JoyBoy69

I genuinely forgot how bad it was

Rey's Got Plans

1 minute into the movie "it's not out a step out of place yet guys!" Respectfully Veggie, yes it bloomin has! 😂 its been running out of place

Bradley Elsken

Dev Patel managed to come out of it with his dignity mostly intact. Although I don't blame him for never wanting to do another major studio movie again after this

VeggieGamer

I think I say in the video, but he was the standout performance for me! That being said, the vast majority of characters have ZERO character or personality! XD

Zachary Herrick

Ew there’s technically a book 3 spoiler in this. Hopefully you don’t remember when we get there

Ruins of Wonderland

"hello future me" did a great review of what's wrong with this movie a number of years ago if you wanna check it out. Tbh a lot of creators have dug into this one lol it's just... It's just not good. Hope you can emotionally recover from this at some point in your life. Been 16 years n I haven't yet but maybe it'll go faster for you 🙃 (crap I got old)

Cari Ann

Veggie jotting down his notes 📝 lol

Cirya Taur

The worst thing about this movie is how much it does a disservice to the characters we love. Katara and "Soaker" bowing to Aang demonstrates a complete lack of understanding and respect for their characters and their bond! Not a single character is portrayed accurately! Where is Sokka's humor? Or Katara's strong moral compass? Or Iroh's fatherly love for Zuko? We only get hints of these things, if any at all… Yes, the mispronunciations are annoying, but portraying the characters so fundamentally wrong is the worst part for me…

Ruins of Wonderland

THOSE 4 WATER BENDERS TOOK OUT ZHAO 😰😰😭 I know it I doesn't make sense Veggie I'm SORRY 😭🤣 Ok last comment - I probably should have remembered they wouldn't connect this by the end, one of my main issues with this is they expect the audience to fill in so much from the show 😭 anyway I'll just address 2 you were questioning - do you remember part 1 water book finale when Aang goes into the spirit world n that dragon appears? If not I recommend refreshing your memory on it especially before book 3. For the big wave OoNg 👁️👁️ made at the end, it's supposed to be a (poor) recreation of what Aang/the moon spirit did at the end of the water book finale. I'm not surprised you started almost swearing during this n got nasty by the end 😩🤣 I don't blame you. Sorry about your new emotional damage Veggie 😔💜

Cinnamon troll

I'm one of the few people who saw the movie first when I was a child, and only later the original show. I did not realise back then how ridiculous this movie was, obviously, but even now I don't hate it. It never fails to make me laugh and some scenes look like they were supposed to be parodies. Like the scene with the six earthbenders lifting a small rock, which was objectively hilarious. The fight scenes are literally masterpieces for how ridiculous they are and the more you re-watch them the more awkward people you see in the background and it makes you laugh even more. That being said, I don't think it's the "worse movie of all time" like many people put it. Like you said, it actually has some great moments. Costumes and decorations are quite nice. And I LOVE the music. I used to even listen to some of it back in the day. I feel sorry for the composer whose amazing work will always be associated with this. One thing that I actually liked more than in the original show, was the way Yue died. I think it was so cool for her to lie down into the water and get her hair turn back to black. Even now, whenever I rewatch this scene from the animated show, where she just disappears in Sokka's arms, I remember about this movie's scene and think about how I prefer it. There, I said something positive about the movie which doesn't exist in Ba Sing Se ahahahaha Thank you for the great reaction, Veggie, as always. I'm sorry you've been through this, but at least now you have Book three to enjoy, which is very very good XD

Steven

This movie feels like it was created by AI: Inconsistent, no personality, and doesn't understand the prompt it was given. That being said, I actually enjoyed watching this purely for your reaction. Now we can get back to the good stuff with the show

Diego Reckholder

I wasn't prepared to see you or me suffer today, but thanks 😂

Jake M

I suppose whether you know Kitara or not is how closely you follow the Beckhams...apparently, she's Brooklyn Beckham's wife. 🤷

Jake M

I watched the show first, and now I'm starting this... Have I made a huge mistake? 😂

Cari Ann

Same only veggies reaction could convince me to put myself through this movie again lol

VeggieGamer

The voice actor or actor? From what I gather, there is a LOT going on there at the moment...

Unholy Tater

This movie was certainly... something. Looking forward to your reaction lol

Alex Hopps

Not sure i can do this to myself tonight but I'll do my best to get through it with u at some point. I have never attempted it before

Shadowwolf21687

You are the first and only reactor to actually like the designs of Appa and Momo. I personally don’t like them at all. I think a lot of the fans of the show would agree. The Appa and Momo from the live action show on Netflix did a much better job at recreating them and their likeness. I prefer the Netflix versions of Appa and Momo over the movie but nothing beats the original.

Lord-LemonHead

The best thing about watching this movie is that it makes you appreciate how wonderful the show is. This is one of those movies that I will never tire of hearing bad reviews of.

STAYoung

Ahhh nostalgia for all the wrong reasons. It's kind of beautiful in just how wrong this movie is. The power of earthbending where three quarters of the movie's earthbenders come together to lift a single rock, Sokka's actor looking like he walked onto the wrong set, the long rivalry between the Gaang and that one guy from the beginning of the movie, the random bits of movie in between the exposition, the Fire Nation high command just casually walking through the Northern Water Tribe and how Aang has full control of the Avatar State the second time he enters it. It's also weirdly inconsistent with how we don't know what happens between the scene changes. Katara never asked for Aang's name until they reached the air temple, Zuko didn't die and now has made a full plan with Iroh, and Zuko was gone as the Blue Spirit for 4 days but what were Sokka and Katara doing? But the effects were 'decent'

Jake M

The actor in this disaster! XD

PumpkinSparks

This movie came out about half a year after the first Avatar movie (the Avatar with the blue alien people that is) I think that is why they didn't put Avatar into the title of this one, so people don't get confused. In Germany they went even further and titled it "the legend of Aang" ... Everyone still just called it the Avatar movie. When someone started talking about the Avatar movie, we tended to say "which one? The one everyone forgets exists, or the one we wish to forget?" I do agree, there are some things that this movie does really well. The design for one is quite strong. I really like the detailed tattoos from Aang, the sets look great, and the costumes are beautifully detailed. I also kinda like the change with how firebending works. It creates a new tactic how to fight a firebender (concentrate on dowsing all flames) which noone really did. So that was potential thrown right out of the window... and it gave Iroh great potential. The soldiers running away in fear yelling that he just created flames himself, was amazing. And then Iroh just became a flame thrower for a second and nearly burnt down the "sacred place"? ... okay..... I don't mind too much that they changed the fire nation ethnicity. A lot of people name that as one of the worst crimes this movie did. But since they didn't really hark on the notion of honor tied to them, it doesn't really matter which culture they evoke, imo. Way worse for me? Why are Sokka, Katara, and Gran Gran white? Everyone else in their village looked more akin to the inuit people. But the 3 who have a speaking role need to be white? The fuck? Oh yeah, and we nearly got a white Zuko as well! Jesse McCartney was supposed to play him, but there was some scheduling conflict... Thank you, for putting the blame of very poor performances on the directing and skript! A lot of people hate on the actors, which really isn't fair. This movie actually has an amazing cast with a whole bunch of very talented actors. Especially Dev Patel really tried to pull some semblence of substance out of this shitshow of a skript. But there is only so much they can do with an abysmal skript and poor directing,,,

Jake M

Having Sokka wide eyed the whole movie, as if he's perpetually worried he's about to sh!t himself, is a choice. If this were made today, I'd suspect the dialogue were written by AI which has been fed the scripts of AtlA, several trashy Mills and Boon novels and the video game Two Worlds. The only M Night Shamylan film I've seen before this travesty was the Sixth Sense. That was a masterpiece of cinema in comparison to this. You got so annoyed you invented a character, Izoh XD Hope your weekend improves!

Stephen Hert

Oh no…..😬 😂. We pretend this movie doesn’t exist.

Oona M

Hah, I think it's great that you decided to watch this! I feel like an essential part of being an AtLA fan is to experience this movie for the first time and see how bafflingly bad it is. What were they thinking! It's not even bad in a fun way, it's such fundamentally bad adaptation AND movie...

itz_Cherise

This is so crazy because I don't even know what you're watching! The whole screen is blank! There is NO live action ATLA movie in Ba Sing Se 😁

Embran

Qui-Gon-Iroh is the only thing I could vibe with, because through Sokka treatment we straight up know it´s all serious, no comedy (apart from the infamous Earth camp scene). A mentor role and father figure. He is wise, just not goofy.

Sab

In school teachers used to say if you don't read the book we will know, if you write the essay from just the cliffs notes we will know, and I never believed it. Then I watch this movie and thats exactly what it feels like. If my essays were even a 10th as obvious or bad as this movie was, I think I need to issue a formal apology to all my english (literature) teachers. The amount of time and moves it takes to move even the smallest amount of the elements is the worst part of the movie for me. It drags out the scene, makes bending less epic by building anticipation for nothing, and the time could have been used to give literally any of them even an ounce of personality.

CR Ash

At the end of the movie, Ong was threatening the Fire Nation with a tsunami, he wanted them to retreat, thats why he let go of the way once they ran

Declan

Great reaction Veggie. Sorry to had to put yourself through this turmoil. Was there still any interest in reacting to the un-aired pilot? That also has a handful of differences to the main series, but those ones are actually fun to talk about.

VeggieGamer

Thanks Ash! I really was confused. Maybe if there was a Fire Lord shouting "RETREAT!" i would have understood it (maybe there was, sorry if so)!

CR Ash

Nah you are fine!! One of the most frustrating things about this film is that you can SEE a decent film hiding in the trash A commander looking stunned and running screaming retreat would have been PERFECT

VeggieGamer

Ah, yeah, commander. XD Only when I read your reply did I remember I had typed 'a Fire lord' XD

Diego Zenhäusern

Y'all, we did it, we broke Veggie! Honestly though, Veggie: Seeing you this annoyed at a movie was at the same time really hillarous and also really discomforting🙈😅 Thanks for putting yourself through this!😂

Diego Zenhäusern

I too saw it as a child and before the show. And so my child-brain was totally stunned by all the "cool effects" and the action and didn't notice/ care that the people had no personality. So I was actually genuinely hyped at the end when they showed this new cool looking firebender (Azula) who would be sent after Aaang in the next movie! And I was also really bummed when I learned that we wouldn't get a second movie.🙈😅 Rewatching it now (with a lot of distance and some understandings of how stories and movies work) I have to admit that it really is bad. Though in contrast to Veggie it didn't make me angry but just sad (and sometimes laugh out loud at it's ridiculousness😂😅)

Alex Hopps

40 mins in, its better than expected. But its still pretty bad. Slumdog zuko was unexpected, renaming the characters ong and soaker was an... interesting choice. Cool unexpected book 3 reference snuck in there early too

jolt45

No one has asked the most important question about this movie, and I'm surprised. Which of these things is largest? 1. Zuko 2. SEW-kuh 3. Ron's feet

Logical Dreamer

There is no movie in Ba Sing Se. So glad we have a new Live Action that is better than this movie. It makes me even more excited to see what you think of it. I think they kept Suki out to introduce her in the next movie, since movies usually can have only one love story unless it's a triangle. Honestly, Zuko and Yue are the best part of the movie.

Madikuma95

Ron's feet, obviously! They're massive!

Embran

lol Veggie being so annoyed about ¨Spiritual Place¨ instead of ¨temple¨. Though i thought they didn´t called that as such in ATLA too. Which made me go to the transcript of the second last episode of Season 1: Siege of The North and... Aang wanted a way to connect to the Sprit World to receive guidance for the upcoming battle. Yue said she knew a way. Afterwards: ´But I can take you to the most SPIRITUAL PLACE in the entire North Pole. ´Also Yue said: ´It's the center of all spiritual energy in our land.´ And that´s it. No ¨temple¨ or let say ¨pagoda¨.

VeggieGamer

This is interesting Embran! I would say saying 'the most spiritual place' is very different than saying 'a spiritual place', which they say i think maybe 3 times in this? If it is because Aang (Oong) is young and doesn't know the terms, that is fine. But it definitely wasn't said for comedy purposes IMO! XD

Embran

True. ¨the most¨changes it from random line to importance. Also, since you joked ¨Oong¨ and no one else so far in the comments went hard on it.. I am one of those not too bothered by it. Shyamalan wanting to use pronunciation of names sounding more Asian was on itself a good idea. Pity he wasn´t consistant with it. Or emphasize with all actors to say it as such. And going hard on names sounding correct, but casting totally wrong didn´t help either. Fire Nation Imperial Japan or Korea, but they are all South Asian looking. Water Tribe most closely to Inuit, but they are the most white. And it´s not a budget problem or for convenience sake on location. All filmed in Greenland and Pennsylvania. Still it has to be said people a bit to accustomed to what you hear in the show and not acccepting changes. Even though I feel spelling wise of Aang in English it should be closer to Aeng or Angue. Iroh is like Iron, but in Japanese would be ee-ro and that again what Shyamalan went for. It´s like with anime... I would attempt to say Asian names in an Asian way, like in the OG Japanese dub the voice actors try saying an English, German, or French name or term correcty. Even though sounding funny doing so.

Ashley Evers

It's okay, Veggie, you never did hit record, this was all a bad dream, there is no live action movie in Ba Sing Se 😁 Join the rest of the fandom in blissful denial 🤣

A Kiwi Slytherin

Hi Veggie. I've been a part of the patreon for a while now but this is my first time commenting. Wow I had forgotten how truly awful this movie was. The reason I'd heard for all the miss pronunciation was because they want to make the pronunciation sound more Asian given the Asian inspiration but i could be wrong about this. I've heard a few people complain that this movie is racist and since nobody else seem to have brought this up i though I'd talk about it. As a Kiwi it was great to see Cliff Curtis star in the movie (well it would have been if the movie wasn't terrible) as Firelord Ozai. Curtis is one of New Zealand's most famous actors and is of Maori descent (the indigenous people of New Zealand), which is most similar to Pacific People if I had to put it in a wider ethnic group. Dev Patel who plays Zuko is Indian and Shaun Toub who plays Iroh is Iranian. Those are three very different ethinic groups and they all look very different from one another despite playing family. While I don't think it was the directors intent it feel a little bit like the movie is saying all foreigners look alike which is rather insulting. This issue is also sort of compounded by the fact they dicided to have Aang, Katara, and Sokka ( Our heroes) be played by white Americans while the fire nation, (all the bad guys) a range of other ethnicity's (just not white). Again I don't think this is what the director intended but I can't believe this wasn't considered by anyone as they made this film.

Deadshot1999

The Netflix series live action is waaayyy better that this version XD... you should react to that one either after book 3 or after you reacted to Legend of Korra.

Chaos The Kidd

"What is the WORST thing about this movie?" -EDIT - I even mentioned them but forgot the context of the scene. The fact that the Fire Nation locks up Earth Benders IN A ROCKY AREA! That is one of the top moments that proves they did NOT understand the show. -Original Answer - I've yet to see your thoughts at the end. But I personally HATE how they changed the bending. Fire Benders needing pre-existing flames and 10 Earth Benders needed to do a whole dance to move a rock at half the speed I could throw it. Also the awful pronouncing of the names. I get they tried to "Say it properly", but these weren't just words that were accidentally pronounced badly in the original, it was names of established character.

Goblin

I knew this movie was sort of a masterclass on objectively bizarre (and disrespectful, imho) movie making decisions (especially regarding adapting from the source material) But I had never wanted to sit through the whole experience until now, and wow. I now hold a lot more rage in my heart :o) I'm glad I can say I've seen it, I guess ! It was nice to see your righteous rage @ the character assassinations we witnessed as well- I feel like this differs a lot from your usual reaction videos (not a bad thing, I promise) ! And while I'm not the type to seek out anything that some might consider a "hate-watch" reaction, this was very fun, and I appreciate you trying to find the positives. But it did make me wonder what you'd think of similar stories that have plots or scenes that make you go "WHAT ?? What do you MEAN ????? What does any of that MEAN ????" Watching more things like this (though this is one movie that's hard to defend, admittedly) might be something to consider as a bit of a challenge every now and then. I feel like it's a reaction channel staple to check out things like Twilight eventually, for example, even if it's not really your usual. Anyhow, thank you for giving me the strength to sit through this movie ! ((I feel like if i wrote down a lot of things that happen in this movie + the changes made to the source material, it would read like I'm trying to make a spoof ... I will forever wonder why that is..))
