SO stressful! Genuinely terrifying what Willow goes through here.

And they ABSOLUTELY got me with the Giles thing. XD Well played!

Sorry about forgetting Kennedy's name for a bit near the start. We have a lot to discuss regarding her here!

Love you, guys~

Just speaking for myself, I'd absolutely LOVE you to watch Firefly when you're done with Buffy! ❤️ Firefly is special, and I think you'd really like it. It's also not too much of a time commitment as it was cancelled halfway through producing the first/only season by idiot executives: it's just 14 episodes and the movie. I'd also love if you'd watch Dollhouse, from the same creative team. It came out a few years later with Eliza Dushku as the lead. It's 2 seasons and it's criminally underrated :)

Poor Sarah Michelle Gellar, she’s so obviously sick during this episode. Especially talking to Giles in the first scene, she’s SO hoarse. They even gave her a mug of tea for that scene, which I’m sure she needed, but it just makes it seem like Buffy is sick and no one is acknowledging it. But SMG still does a great job, as always! The military/government folks did SAY they were going to fill in the Initiative tunnels with concrete at the end of season 4, you’re remembering correctly, but they apparently never got around to that, lol. I like to imagine someone saying “Wait, HOW much concrete is this going to take? ….Ok, new plan, we just pile some rocks and branches in front of the entrance and hope for the best. Don’t tell anyone.” I’m fairly certain the military guy, quoting Riley, calls Spike “ass-face” :) While Kennedy was never my favourite, I like her fine, and I think she and Willow are sweet together. The amount of hate she gets is really weird to me. (And I know you aren't saying you hate her or anything, it's just a common opinion I see from fans of the show.) :)

ok, so now I am going to sound like I am lying, but I SWEAR I nearly mentioned how her voice sounded different in this one! What a soldier she was getting through it!

You're definitely not in the minority regarding your thoughts on Kennedy - there's a portion of the fan fanbase who actively despise her. I've never hated her, certainly not to that extent, but I'm basically just indifferent to her. As you said, she's pretty one-note, and I don't feel anything in either the date or the final scene. Why are we wasting time trying to build up new characters and relationships in the final stretch of episodes of the final season instead of focusing on what's already been established? When was the last time any of the core Scoobies had a meaningful conversation? It's one of my main issues with the season. Alyson Hannigan acts her butt off, and that's all that salvages the ending for me - other than that the ending is quite corny and falls flat in my opinion. The Giles subplot is basically another waste of time. For the past few episodes, they've made sure to have Giles not touch anyone or anything for the sole purpose of trying to trick the audience, to the point that it breaks my suspension of disbelief completely (trying to trick the audience is also a reason I hate the writing of Spike when he's supposedly trying to get his soul back at the end of S6). He's not touched anything? *Anything*? Not hugged his quasi-daughter or his friends? Not even accidentally bumped into someone or something? A pointless buildup and use of screentime, seemingly for the purpose of a weird, kind of gross punchline. The Spike/chip situation kind of just feels like they needed to give Sarah and James something to do in this episode. Maybe it's my distaste for Spike talking, but I also don't care about this plot at all. You're right that in the penultimate episode of Season 4, we were told that the Initiative was to be filled in and buried - I guess we're meant to assume this was just metaphorical. Another weird retcon is Spike talking about being given a drug to dope him up after his chip went off inside the Initiative if he started being "rambunctious". Except we see the first time he experienced the chip's effects in 4x7 when he tried to bite Willow, and he wasn't actually captive for very long. Between this and the Giles thing, it feels like the show is trying to gaslight us and it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth to be honest. Side note: Riley called him "assface" lol. I'm sorry for being so negative, I certainly don't enjoy it, but this season's issues compound more and more for me with every rewatch. I'm also so sick of the inside of the Summers house at this point. It feels like it's one of the only sets we ever see any more, it's almost claustrophobic. Have you seen that Starkid is Kickstarting their next project by the way? It looks like a lot of fun! And AJ Holmes is back - Gilderoy is here! Very excited for your next Starkid reaction whenever you get around to it :) Thanks Veggie!

This whole episode feels like they had 2 - 3 ideas for some cool episodes and for some reason combined them all into one and none of them got the full treatment they deserved. Making some suggestive remarks for a few weeks and then tricking someone into going on a "date" with you isn't exactly my idea of a sweet romance. IDK what the writers were trying to do with Kennedy as a character except maybe make her the polar opposite of Tara? I don't hate her, but I just think the character has no depth. I always felt the resolution of the Willow plot here was nonsensical, too. Am I crazy or did we not see Willow actually come to any emotional resolution about the situation before Kennedy's super special kiss solved everything? Just weird.

"Ass-Face". Just remember, this show was created to be watched weekly, with a 3-4 month break between seasons, so it's not that soon for Willow to move on. I, personally love Kennedy. She is the only potential that has any real self-confidence. The Giles bit is hysterical! They said they'd "fill it in with concrete", but...you know...budget cuts. LOL

I imagine that Firefly would do pretty well for you, as it has a pretty rabid fanbase 🤣 And there's talk about a new show in the works, so now would be a good time. It's not a huge commitment, either. I definitely think it's at least worth a test episode. I feel like most of the youtubers I follow have talked lately about having lower views and/or subs than normal lately. It seems like Youtube has made some choices that are just tanking long form videos and generally making the platform worse across the board. Sorry to hear it's affecting you too, hopefully you find some stuff that breaks though.

I was never a fan of Willow getting with Kennedy; I think it was just too soon for me after Tara's death. Plus I just don't like Kennedy's personality (as someone else said, she's like the opposite of Tara). I am really enjoying the Buffy and Spike scenes though, especially now that their relationship has become much less toxic!

When you actually suggested it wasn't Giles almost immediately when he appeared after the "attack" scene several weeks ago, I was very impressed and it was hard to keep schtum! And now you've seen one of the reasons people don't like Kennedy (or Molly, if you prefer XD) - she's not Terror.

Jake M

Assface :) I had the same thoughts as you on Kennedy- essentially she seems to have been created as Willow's love interest rather than her own character (which I think is the trouble with a lot of the Potentials- they sort of just blur together, in my mind except Felicia Day XD) Tara felt like a multi-faceted character in her own right and the relationship took a looong time to develop into a strong bond (or even an on-screen kiss).

Jake M

I'd love a Dollhouse reaction, but I'm not sure the themes will go down well, based on Buffy season 6. Although more Fred is always good...

NightWolfNym

I’ve always hated Kennedy so I’m not a fan of her and Willow. I really enjoy Andrew though lol he’s annoying but in a funny way. Kennedy just flat out annoys me with her attitude.

"...anything you needed to help Assface here." The 'p' from "help" is messing you up I think.

It seems like I'm one of the few here to actually like Kennedy. I think it's nice to have at least one potential with some confidence. And I also appreciated how she straight out came out and told Willow that she liked her...it's a refreshing change from the usual romance plots in movies and series were both parties beat around the bush and nothing seems to come of it for ages. I also think that it is important to adress that Willow getting together with somone else (or even just getting close to them without her having to get into a long term relationship) is not something despicable or a betrayal of her relationship with Tara. Instead it is just something that can happen and is part of live and will likely be good for her in the long run. All that said I agree that the last kiss at the end was unnecessary and chessie. I think it would have been way more impactfull if Kennedy had just hugged Willow and told her it was okay and that she was there for here. Like this it feels like the writers just wanted another girl on girl kiss in the episode more than they wanted to show a meaningfull connection between the two girsl Though I appreciated Kennedy hugging her and taking her back into the hosue at the end, since it was basically what I wanted her to do.
