Hi guys. Just heard the very sad news that Tony Head, known by many as Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has passed away.

This... really has not been a good year for the Buffy community, and this one definitely hurts a lot.

MINOR BUFFY SPOILER - When he left the show I think in season 6, it felt like a huge gap was left in his place, and that is just testiment to his incredible performance through out. I know some people have issues with certain characters (even Dawn, who I frickin' love), but EVERYONE loved Giles.I know he was working into his 70s and clearly loved what he did for a living. He will be sadly missed by the community. It really has been a brutal year when it comes to Buffy. Stay safe and tell those around you how much they mean to you. x

I hadn’t heard this yet. 😞😢

VeggieGamer

Yeah it was breaking news when I was in the car just now. I believe his daughters just announced it.

Badger Kat

So sad, I just looked up how old he was.

Alex Hopps

Pardon the language, but what in the name of actual fuck? Wasn't ready for that right now

Hi Veggie, thank you for posting this tribute. This one really does hurt. He was great in many roles, but his performance really made Giles such a loveable, well rounded character. It's even sadder knowing that his wife died in December aged only 61. My heart goes out to their two daughters.

LouShirley

Aww that's sad to hear. I think I mostly know him from Little Britain 🤔

Steven

This hit me like a ton of bricks. He brought so much warmth, steadiness, and heart to the role of Giles that I really don’t think anyone else could have been better cast than he was. He’ll always be Giles ❤️

PumpkinSparks

Oh no! I had not heard about his passing ☹️ he was truly an amazing performer! To me he'll always be Giles. But in every role I saw him - no matter how small - he just inhabited them and made you want to see more...

Damn. Such a shame, always liked him as an actor.

Maia Brodsky

Not another one. 😔 I didn't even know yet.

Michael

Nooo man that sucks 😔 guy was so damn talented, loved him with all my heart in Buffy and hated him with every fibre of my being in Ted Lasso. RIP

Jordan McLaren

Oh my god, the notification for this post was how I just found out 💔 Goddammit, this really hurts. Rest In Peace Anthony

Annabellae Priestly

</3 I knew him better as Uther Pendragon from Merlin, he played that character SO well. RIP.

Thank you Veggie for this tribute. This one hits especially hard. After the losses of of Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicholas Brendon (and of course the cancellation of the reboot), it's not easy being a Buffy fan these days 😔

Because of complications from pneumonia, no less. An incredible loss for the world. Having seen Tony Head in a few roles now, it’s clear he was an incredibly talented actor, and the world lost an artist in his passing. I’m glad that he got that level of recognition in his lifetime, especially with more mainstream shows like Ted Lasso and Merlin. I imagine a lot of people first remember seeing him in the Nescafe Gold Blend instant coffee commercials, which I believe was his first major acting job (outside of musical theatre).

Kocia

RIP Tony Head! I hope you get to react to Ted Lasso at some point. He's brilliant in there as always!

I never watched Buffy, but he was a huge name in the 80's here in Blighty with the Nescafe ads, which were very well known and had a story to them. RIP Anthony Head.
