COMMENT SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THESE CHAPTERS! Thank you all for adding to it and don't worry if you missed out, you will get a chance to be in the next one! :)

Hi guys!  Here is a chance to get your comment read out in the next Book review video!  I am kinda making this up as I go, but hopefully it will be a fun way to discuss these chapters! :)  I will most probably be recording this weekend, so you have a couple of days.

If you are reading along with the reviews, we are covering chapters "The Sorting Hat", "The Potions Teacher" and "The Midnight Duel" in this one! So if you have any thoughts, opinions, comparisons or questions regarding these, please leave a comment below!

I do have to ask though, try to keep them fairly short (say, 2 or 3 sentences). That way I can cover more when making the video.  Also try to keep them on subject and not referencing anything that we are yet to cover.  I'll try out covering them at the end of the video, but in future maybe we can do them per-chapter.  Let me know what you think!

OH! And if you would like to leave a comment but would rather I didn't read it out in the video, please feel free. Be sure to say you would rather it not be used in your comment.

Thanks, guys! Hope this idea works out well! :)

Peeves and the sorting hats songs not being in the movies are two of my biggest pet peeves with the movies.

Diego Zenhäusern

I can understand why they left Peeves out from a movie stand point and so it doesn't bother me too much🤔 But it sure would have been fun to see him on screen😁

Diego Zenhäusern

Something I actually never realized until watching your reactions: By leaving out the sorting hat's song you never get a clear explanation as to what the traits associated with the 4 houses are. You basically just have "good house", "evil house" and "two other random houses"😅.

Lovegood

Oh I agree, though I think because movies 1&2 are more for a younger audience, it would be a great thing to have included in them. But I think it especially could bring some light in the later movies. Though my favorite moments for Peeves are in 3, 5 and 7. (But with book to movie 3/5/7 there’s a lot to unpack).

to me personally book dumbledore and movie dumbledore are almost like two different people. i love how whimsical and odd dumbledore is in the books, like when he says just "a few words" and it's really just made up words. it makes him more likeable in my opinion and also makes the contrast to his powerful side and all his achievements even more impactful

Jannys

I would really like to which Snape do you like better. Because in the books he is a lot more "evil" and meaner, I personally like tad more the "book Sanpe"

I am also interested in your oppininon of Book Snape - but I'd rather waitntil you've ead a fw more of his chapters. Also interested in everrything that covers all the things that got lost in the books.... Like othe students

Svetlana Grabar

What do you think of the writing style and storytelling so far? Do you find it too childish and simplistic, or the opposite?

Nick Brønnum

in The Potions Teacher note: "Bezoar" for the Half-Blood Prince

Kristen Campbell

Do you think they could of shown more of Ron and Harry getting lost? The whole part where walls pretend to be doors and trick steps. those small parts show Hogwarts has character.

Anders Ekren

Thoughts on Peeves? One of my all time favorite characters!

Garry (Not Jerry)

Just a few words from me: "Nitwit, Blubber, Oddment, Tweak" thank you!

Not a Question, just wanted to say thanks for your effort to talk about the books. I love to see people react to all the things the movies could not portray. Got your Patreon for this! :)

These are things I love that I also want to hear your thoughts on in these chapters. One thing is the approach to the castle on boats is more detailed in the books which I think is better and introduced the giant squid which I’m not sure was in the movies at all. Another is how much better the sorting hat talking in your head is because it’s much more personal rather than seeming to be out loud.

Kat

If you had heard the traits of the different houses from the sorting hat before you took your sorting quiz, would you have expected to be in Hufflepuff, or a different house? :)

My opinion: the only reason people love Snape is because Alan Rickman is so damn charming. On paper, he’s just a d*ck. As you’re reading these chapters, are you picturing the handsome Mr. Rickman, or the creepy dude described in the book? 🙎🏻‍♀️

Dara Jeeling

@Becky Casey thatÄ's waht makes film Snapes magic - Alan Rickman I still loved book Snape (but then I was older and sort of figured out something was amiss realtively early). He's a bad bully, he's unfair but thatere always was asomething amiss, which is why he is still my favorite Character (he and Luna) . I sort of had lost it to book Snape befoe the fist film came out. And no not in love with either Snape - just a big Alan Rickman fan since 1991 - I mean he is the only reason to wathc Robin Hood at all... He is still the most complex character after all and yes he is a bully and I'd hate to have him as a teacher - i actually had a female teacher that was as bad as he was... No fun! But then I was very partial towards the teachers anyway. Mc Gonagall was a close 2nd until Luna came along. The teachers are such interesting side characters. Highly underepresented in the films. Still do not think the description is creepy - he has black, greasy hair, a huge nose a constand scowl and is dressed all in black. He is a dick and unfair - but creepy? What's always forgotten, he is only 31 in the books - and he is a petty damn giid wizard (mean, but still a great one) Eve when I read the books I imagined Snape as unpleasant - never smiling, always on the look to take points but he was never creepy XD I found Hagrid creepier and Quirell I found Guilderoy Lokchart extremely creepy and Rita Skeeter unpleasent. ButSnape - was never creepy for me (and I ready the books years before the films came out - so no Alan Rickman focus - that one came later on, of course; but I have said it before as much as I loved Alan Rickman I thought he was to old for Snape - I love his approach anyway....) As said, my definition of creepy is something different. Book Snape is unfair, biased, not te prettiest person, a bully but not creepy Creepy is a big Spider *giggles*

Dara Jeeling

Loony, Loopy Lupin XD (gosh I hated the german tanslation of Peeves so much!)

eva

Shall we talk about Snape`s "teaching methods", should I say bullying Harry and the other students? Nothing can justify his dreadful behaviour in my opinion.

Katherine

I read the books first and Snape was by far my favourite character. The most interesting character and what made me keep reading at 11 years old.

Anton Zbarsky

A random thought: some of the teachers in school do not seem suitable for children to get proper education. In 8th chapter we learn about history professor who fails to give proper knowledge, later we will see that some people are appointed randomly without any teaching experience, like Hagrid. I guess in order to pass an exam the majority of subjects students should study themselves.

Leo Cazin

The fuck was wrong with you, how could you like such a terrible person? xD

VeggieGamer

Thanks so much for the comments, guys! This episode of the Book Club is now at a close! See you next time! :)

While that's true I always thought it was close to real life. When I think back to my school days some of my teachers were amazing but some seemed to have given up or lost interest long ago. I always try to remind myself when watching the school scenes that these are not ordinary children and part of the idea might be to challenge them to rise above or deal with difficult situations as a way of building their powers and the ability to seek out solutions on their own.
