Hi guys!  First things first - Sorry about the thumbnail (I explain in the video XD)

Here we go~!  My first time watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer!  Think I am really going to enjoy this ride!  It is a show I know is very popular, but never got around to watching.  So we are going to give the first Season a go and see if it is something you guys will be interested in continuing!

As for most things on the Patreon, you will need your own copy of the show to sync to.  If you have any feedback on this, let me know! This is currently the easiest was for me to get you these, but I know it isn't exactly ideal.

I think I already know who my favourite character is going to be. XD But let me know who your favourite is in the comments (no spoilerz of course ;) ).

Sorry on the wait for this! If peeps are cool with syncing their own copies, we should be able to make this a weekly slot!

Huge Potterhead too, and I adore all things Buffy too so I think there is definitely some cross over with the fandoms. Willow is a favourite character of mine she is awesome. Really stoked you are checking these out I'm looking forward to following along for the ride!

I'm re-watching these reactions because I'm procrastinating, don't judge me please :o) Recognizing Luke(? the huge vamp) from Mortal Kombat is so great. It's wild how misleading the tiny slayer lore dump is at the start of these episodes. "In every generation" really paints the wrong picture, huh.. I also adore the idea of vampires having a hard time blending in because of their fashion sense. Even if they don't hibernate (like vampires from other sources sometimes do) it's still very amusing to me to think that they might tend to hold on to very dated trends or hairstyles. I do wonder how that would be tackled with a modern Buffy, since nowadays we've got so many decade-specific fashion renaissances happening. GOLLY I hope we get to see a vamp in bell bottoms :') It's really hard for me to rate this one, because pilots have so much working against them. I think it's pretty solid, if a bit campy (which is a plus IMO). Not a massive fan of the vamps right now, but the main cast is outlined well (particularly Willow). I'm gonna give it a 7. Lots of standout lines as well, but I wanna point out how impressed I am that Luke's "You're strong. I'm stronger." felt like a good line to me. It could've been SO over the top cheesy so easily. ps- fellow HP fan here, yes.

Been staying a part of your patreon just to see you start this series and I'm glad I did. The first season of this show can be really campy but much like Harry Potter the show matures with its audience, they start at sophomore year of high school and end when they are young adults.

Hi Veggie, what a delight this is! I'll leave another comment with my thoughts, but I want to do the "Joss Whedon comment." Joss was indeed one of the writers on Toy Story! He was basically "king of the nerds" in the 2000s, but in recent years there has been a lot of controversy over allegations that he can be abusive to actors on set -- to the extent that he is virtually unemployable right now. My advice, even though you didn't ask for it, is to not research anything about it until you've finished with the show. A lot of us had to go through a reckoning of "where do I separate the artist from the art." I wanted to let you know this drama is out there, but you're clearly a kind and inclusive person and I don't think you even need to bring it up. I hope it was OK to share!

I had no idea we were beginning this journey so soon, and I am beyond excited! I've been here for HP and LoTR but Buffy reigns supreme -- only Discworld is more important to me than the Buffyverse. You're going to hear a lot about season 1 being "bad," but I am confident you will love it. It's more low budget and more cheesy than later seasons, which is not usually a problem for fans of Doctor Who. And (like with Harry Potter) the lore keeps expanding and expanding so that S1 can look babyish by comparison. But that doesn't mean it's not good! I graduated high school in Dallas TX the same year as Buffy (1999), so I may chime in with a lot of answers to "was high school really like that in America then?" questions. For starters, yes, we liked James Spader in 1997! Check out a movie poster for the 1994 movie Stargate for why 😂

Omg I can’t believe it !!!! I audibly gasped when I saw this upload. Buffy is so amazing and special. The first season can be a little cheesier and more obvious older practical effects and stuff than later on but it lays a nice basis for the other seasons and gives you a little room to love the characters and their friendships etc. It can be very monster of the week style to start with. It just gets better and better though and is really one of the most beautiful, profound and amazing tv shows of all time. 🖤🖤🖤

I have watched this entire series at least 5 times. But now that *you* are reacting to it, I must watch it again; I can't wait to see your reaction! Here we go! YES, I am also a Harry Potter fan, to answer your question. The first season isn't the best, and there are definitely some outdated points of view during the show, but it gets better and darker as it goes along, and *certain* characters are added that make things even better. I won't say anything more than that, however, as I don't want to spoil a thing. If you have questions throughout, I'll try to answer without giving away anything. So excited for one of my favorite shows of all time!

I will say regarding feedback on syncing our own copies, most of the Buffy reactors I watch on Patreon watch the full episode and it’s onscreen and an edited version goes up on YouTube. This does make for easier watching but I understand if this is not doable right now!!

OMG. OMG. OMG. Veggie is doing Buffy? The first season is campy. It stays campy after, but it gets darker, too. Anyway, I am *so* here for this. Also, big Potterhead, but it took me a while to get into it. The same way you avoided anything with kids in it, I avoided anything that was too popular. My favourite character you've met so far is Buffy. The only competition she has as series favourite will not appear in season one.

I’m here for all 7 seasons, and just to confirm you are right in that buffy was chosen for this generation to be the slayer only females can be the slayer.

I’ll echo what Georgia said, I watch multiple Buffy reactors and they haven’t had any issues. A lot use Dropbox (not my favorite but it works well), also Vidyard and google drive.

I've heard YouTube copywrite claims Buffy videos sometimes even with the edited versions though. Make of that what you will. From what I gather, people re-edit the videos and try to post them again? I'm not exactly sure how it works since I don't post videos there. Also, Patreon doesn't seem to care if you have the full episode with commentary up, and I've seen people using Dropbox or Google Drive to play the full episodes with commentary like Svetlana said. Though I'm not sure how "legal" that is, or if there's any risk to it.

I watched season 1 a long time ago and while I didn't dislike it didn't catch me enough so I never really got around/ made the time to watch further. So I'm happy that your covering this series, because now I can watch along with you🙃 I'm also really excited since the consent in these commenst seems to be that the show gets better after season one, so I'm excited to get to that :)

Oh, brilliant! I was addicted to this show back in the day, and it still has a special place in my heart. I'm here for all of it. The guy you thought was called "Bones" is actually Angel, you're right -- but where you may be getting mixed up is that the actor (David Boreanaz) later went on to star in another excellent show, about forensic pathology and also worth checking out: Bones. :) Looking forward to going on this journey with you! My favourite characters at this point in the show are Giles and Willow. Re: Joss Whedon. Ignore him, for now. Don't Google. Just enjoy the show, and look him up later, if you're still interested. And other shows I would recommend in a similar vein are Charmed (the original), The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Supernatural ... In case you're looking out for other shows to react to! Oh wow I can't believe you are reacting to Buffy, this is literally my favorite show ever. I think I am currently following like 4 Buffy reactors but I will be happy to add you to the list :D. Now there are some infos about the version of the show you are watching that you should know (this is like a rite of passage for every Buffy reactor). Some years ago a monstrosity called the Buffy HD remastered was released which was attempted to improve on the quality (like resolution and such), which granted isn't the best in the early seasons. But this remastered is, and it can not be overstated, the worst remastered that was every created for anything (This is no exaggeration, there are articles and such written about it, but stay away from them due to spoilers). Anyways among others they changed the aspect ratio from 4:3 to widescreen. This messes with the shot composition a ton and sometimes there are crew members and such visible in the shot, because it simply wasn't shot to be widescreen. But the absolute worst is the lighting. They completely messed it up. Like in the masters layer it is a lot darken in the original version which really helps with the atmosphere. But worse than that there are shots in the remastered that look like daylight when it is supposed to be night!! It is just horrible and every Buffy fan ever hates the remastered. But unfortunately it's the version on all the streaming services. But the good news for you is that there is this think called the Buffyverse archive. It is a pdf with the links to all seasons/episodes so you can download the original version. I can send it to you if you want (I didn't make it, so no credit to me). It's awesome and I would recommend you react to that version (alternatively DVDs are an option, but I don't know how prevalent the remastered are there. I just know mine are the original). All that being said it is obviously your choice and this is just an offer!

Also, "Bones" is a show that David Boreanaz (who plays Angel) is in. I love that show! I believe Sunnydale is supposed to be, roughly, Santa Barbara, CA, which makes a lot of things not make sense to me as a Southern Californian.

Big crossover between the two! Love Harry Potter and Buffy. There was a movie that came out a few years before this. Different actors, but the story took place at Buffy's old school when she first found out about vampires. :) The gym incident is in it. Edit: I'm still watching, didn't realize you knew about the film haha. There is a comic series, it didn't start until after this series.

I'm really excited for this series! You already have my vote to do the whole seven seasons. My favorite character is definitely Willow. She has a very surprising character arch throughout the series and Alyson Hannigan is an amazing actress with a lot of range, which she really gets to show off as the show progresses.

I’m a potterhead and mildly (deeply 🤭) obsessed with Buffy. My favourite character from the first few episodes is Giles, he’s a favourite in general to be honest. I started watching your videos on YouTube when you first did Harry Potter and I’ve just signed up to Patreon to be able to watch Buffy with you!! I’m sure others will have already told you this but the first season of Buffy is more prone to 90s cheesiness than the rest. It only gets better and better as it goes. Very few shows go as deep and the writing is sometimes painfully brilliant. You’re going on an adventure!!

And yes, that episode you've seen is like ....well, a good few seasons away, but it's definitely one of the more special episodes (there's no background music in it I believe). And Ironically the first season of this show aired the same year the first Harry Potter book was released - 1997! I grew up loving them both. But it is very 90s and I am so here for watching it with you so long as you're willing to watch it.

I just watched your latest Buffy post (Halloween), but came back to watch your beginning and afterward thoughts for this first episode, because I couldn't remember anything about what you said you knew. I'm guessing by now that you're already planning to judging by how far into the series you are and by the comments you were getting even on this reaction, but just in case you need any more encouragement, yes, watch the whole series. I am here for the long haul, my friend. Because as good as you thought Halloween is (it is great), that? That was nothing. You are in for one hell of a ride, and you haven't even gotten to the good stuff.

I have to say, I know it can't be helped, but it sucks donkey balls that he saw that one. Also, that he knows about the musical one. Seeing the utter shock reactors get for both of those (for different reasons), is one of the best parts of reaction for this series. Again, I know it can't be helped, but it's a bit of a bummer. That said, sometimes a reactor knowing that something is coming provides its own sense of power, and maybe that will be the case here. Guess we'll have to see.

To be clear, he Giles said she sccepted the role, but she never really had a choice. If one Slayer dies the next gets called and that isn't a choice. The mystical energy laying dormant in one of the potential girls awakens, making them stronger, faster, more agile, more enduring. Buffy doesn't get a say in this.
