Hi guys! First off, I PROMISE the Harry Potter Book Review will be with you in a couple of days, as well as the First Part of the Hobbit going up on the YT Channel.  The last couple of weeks have been brutal, but I am now able to get back to getting you more regular stuff.  I also intend on FINALLY starting the movie polls soon!

Really enjoyed this episode of Buffy, it really sets up the series well, and has some hilarious and heartbreaking moments.  As always, let me know who your fav character is at this point in the show is you haven't already.  I will be trying to make this a 'Friday' show, so I hope to get you the next episode then!

Love you guys!

"I sort of accidentally stumbled upon them when I decrypted the security system" 😂 I do love early season Willow's antics. Did you know, supposedly JW wanted Jesse to appear in the opening credits for the first episode, to trick the viewers into thinking he was a main character around for some time? It would have been too expensive, though. It's the sort of stunt that could be pulled in, say, Season 5 or 6, but definitely not the first ever episode of a yet unknown show.

I'm so excited to watch this with you! I'm showing my boyfriend this series as well, and I'm glad you're joining the Buffy community too! WOW. I agree that Buffy is up there with "The Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter". Devoted fans and a lot to unpack in this series. Unforgettable moments. Wow, so excited. Thank you!!!

Glad you clocked Angel immediately in the last one. Dude never really passed as a normal guy IMO, but I love that a lot of people predict he is an actual guardian angel. It certainly was pretty commonplace on TV when this aired. :') I don't have a whole lot to say about this one, but it definitely loses a lot of points for how it dealt with Jesse. (Moreso on rewatches, but even still.) It's an odd choice, and doesn't pay off at all IMO. Looking back, I wish they would have kept him around for even an episode or two more. We'd get more shared backstory between him, Willow & Xander, more opportunities for organic vampire lore dumps (as I imagine Jesse would've stalked them a bit, and maybe sought to turn them too?) And we'd just have more time to get attached to the idea of who he was and what he meant to his friends. For the first "big" character death of the series, it misses the mark entirely :( I'll give it a 4, but only because of that. There are so many good minor scenes in it though !

I love that you're enjoying this show. There are two things I wanted to say that I don't believe are spoilers since they're never brought up in the show. The first is that there was a movie, written by the same guy behind this show, that came before the show. It wasn't successful and you don't need to have seen it to understand or enjoy the show. Essentially, though, Buffy was called to be slayer very shortly before the show began. So she has experience, but not really that much. The other is that vampires turn to dust when they "die" because the show's creator didn't want to devote too much story time to burying the bodies. And thank you for the blurred bottom left corner. I'm still trying to find a way to watch the show at the same time as you. (I'm extremely low tech and the issue at the moment is that I've lost my DVD player remote.) But I remember the show well enough that the blurred images allow me to follow the plot. :)

Yayyy new Veggie Buffy! It’s really interesting that you caught Xander saying “It’s OK; I’m less than a man.” The show doesn’t shy away from recognizing that some men are going to see that tiny blonde female Buffy can beat up demons, and feel threatened. (I’m not shaming Xander in particular; I just love that this theme is present in the opening two-parter.) I’m also glad you’re sympathetic to Buffy’s mom. I love that she’s been listening to tapes to try to parent her troubled teen more successfully. The poor lady is trying her best!

My input on blurring screen / showing the show / all that — first, i want it to be a way that is manageable for YOU!!! But you are asking for input. This is just my opinion. I “watch” a lot of Buffy reactions in a way that’s really more “listening”, because I know most of the episodes so well that all I need is the audio, and I can imagine the visuals while I’m doing the dishes or whatever. (Altho I do stop and pay attention to your visual reaction at moments I care about! I’m not ignoring all the great face you give us!) Most Buffy reactors show the whole thing and host the video on Vidyard or Google drive or Dropbox, to get around YouTube copyright. You don’t have to do that if it doesn’t work for you as a content creator! I personally would prefer at least the audio on these videos, but if not, I’m happy to make sure I watch at home where I can pull up the episode on another screen. I mean talk about first world problems right? Sorry for the long comment. I really enjoy having your videos in my life!

I've watched the first season of Buffy 3 or 4 years ago. And now that you've seen this episode I can admit, that I'd completely forgotten that Jesse even existed until I started rewatching the series along with you🙈😅 Also: I'd absolutely forgotten how hilarious Willow is...I love her🤗!

Diego Zenhäusern

I really felt for her mom in that scene, she's trying so hard!😥

Diego Zenhäusern

Lol, I never even thought about the fact that letting them turn to dust saves a lot of time by not having to explain what happens to the bodies/ makes things easier to cover up🙈😅

Hanneli Norrgard

I'm with you. My favorite part of this episode was when Willow nonchalantly tricked Cordelia into deleting her coding work. At this point of the show, I was absolutely all about Giles and Willow.

Michael Short

I think blurring the screen is a good way of doing it. :)

RavenLord

My top 3 favorite characters throughout this series are (in no particular order) Giles, Willow, and a third who won't show until season 2 and so I will not name them. I think I'm watching this series for about the sixth time? But I *must* watch with you to see your reactions, so back into the fray I gleefully go! For the record, I did have syncing issues in the sense that I had to continually jiggle the syncing to line up, and it would slightly unsync (judging by your comments in scenes) as it went along. With myy personal copy, I don't have a DVD player at the moment, so I'm watching along on Hulu. I might end up switching to Amazon Prime if the syncing issue continues, see if that helps. It could be because of the pauses in the scenes where the commercial breaks once were; the syncing is always off after that. It might also have to do with running two browsers at once; my Internet connection isn't the best in the world.

RavenLord

It's okay to watch the intros. It goes by so fast that nothing's really spoiled, and they're fun. They also change season to season.

Svetlana Grabar

I'd recommend watching the intros! They throw some fun stuff into them sometimes. Plus the music is catchy :)

Garry (Not Jerry)

Absolutely loved this, can’t wait for you to watch the rest Don’t worry, you’ll forget all about Jessie! 😝

Diego Zenhäusern

I certainly did since I watched it the first time🙈😅

VeggieGamer

Sorry Ashley! Nearly got it all recorded! It will either be late today or DEFINITELY tomorrow! No later! :)

Shannon Elizabeth

I need to sit down because I can’t handle Willow’s awesomeness lol Another great reaction. Can’t wait for the next :) 💛🦡💛

Hopefully you can get us a better way to sync up the video. this started blurred so i had no idea when or where to sync up to with an intro scene before the theme song. Perhaps just a time stamp when the intro song is over or where it starts. fighting that intro scene suckkked. So i'm pretty sure our videos were synced but my time was 50 seconds faster than yours. and then after we had been sync'd maybe 5-10 minutes later we weren't sync'd again. i'm not sure where you're watching the episodes but maybe theres different versions?

VeggieGamer

Hi Shiby, I just checked, and the very start of the video (5 seconds) wasn't blurred out. Are you saying you would like me to unblur the first 5 seconds after the initial intro (that is before the start and the theme music)? From what I have seen in other people's comments, some versions of the show have edited out the length between when the ad breaks happened (some fade to black, some pop straight to the next scene), so I am never going to be able to be synced with everyone's copies, sorry. I can't see time stamping from after the intro would help as every episode so far has had a pre-theme song scene.
