The rank-and-file Democrats I know are elated that they can vote for the brave and powerful woman who is "tirelessly working" to offset concerns about those in Gaza. I pointed out to a couple who I am close to that her and Walz's joyful campaign does not absolve them of the guilt they should be feeling for supporting her. It didn't go over too well.

They had a staging area in the parking lot behind the building where I work, at 1121 E 60th Street. That’s about 7 miles from the United Center, so I guess they were ready for riots all over the entire city. There were 8 or 10 ginormous unmarked SUVs in the parking lot with weird antennas on top. None of the people in the SUVs were wearing uniforms, nor were they porcine. Then for an entire block of the street there were 8-9 CPD vans and four ginormous buses from a private bus company. So I guess there was a private security company involved.

I fully agree with the sentiment and I'm also deeply frustrated with the people in my life who support Kamala, I don't think guilt is the most useful tactic to get them to stop supporting her campaign. I think guilt tends to shut people's thought process down which makes them fall into old or comforting patterns like voting for the demonrats, which is why it works for them. I think a more successful tactic could be pointing out that if Kamala is willing to countenance genocide in Gaza and nakedly support concentration camps on the southern border for political expediency, it's very likely that she'll also drop support for the progressive causes they like. Like is she going to add term limits for supreme court justices considering the political backlash she would get?

As someone who has been doing the “press” thing for awhile mostly locally. I don’t sell my stuff to anyone I do it to try and get more attention on certain things. This was my first time seeing shit like that in person I didn’t even really wind up taking any pictures or videos (and yes I do literally only have my phone lol) my the vulturish behavior of these people made me sick thinking that that’s the way I look to people. This experience along with watching that awful “Civil War” movie made me want to quit doing this. It just costs me money. I got arrested at the DNC for just being near one of the protests. It’s awful last week made my outlook on everything so bleak. I agree with brace as well there needs to be one big party. Seeing the same orgs and same types of people fight eachother in the exact same way they do in my city just made me really think about what the fuck we are even doing. All of it just gave me a pit in my stomach. Listening to the conversations people were having in the cell also made feel like I was going insane.

I mean, the cowboy-yankee war happened, right? Even within a single, ostensibly "non-political" agency of the deep state there were powerful factions with divergent styles and tactics even though they shared the same interests. The same is true across the ruling class. "The deep state"/transnational Capital/ etc. are still human institutions with an imperfect understanding of their own best interest and future outcomes, and individuals within them are going to disagree about how to achieve their shared goals.
