Finally a way to find out what Mr Beast is. Thank you, TrueAnon.

Mr Beast

Noah

MrBeast rented out an entire theater to watch the Talk Tuah podcast, listen to KSI, and eat Lunchly

Jake MacLennan

I had thought about writing about this weird feeling some people get about Mr. Beast and the best I could come up with is the intention behind his charity and videos does not seem to come from a place of “I want to do something good” it’s more about being perceived. Intentionality matters when talking about people’s actions like if someone was lying about how they feel about someone to sleep with them. Even if the lied to person got the emotional support they were craving we still think the liar is wrong because the intention wasn’t coming from an honest place. Mr. Beasts charity isn’t about the actual people, it’s about the views he gets. How much the action outweighs the intention will depend on the observer but that’s at least why I find his stuff off putting.

Louis Dondanville

Performative charity and capitalizing on a savior narrative. That's what I see having never actually watched one of his videos

Mr. Beast should get circumcised for the views.

There used to be a Mr. Beast ghost kitchen near my old workplace. The burger has enough salt to salt the entire Carthage empire. American's digestive system is built different

I get a pornographic vibe from the “Costco Guys” videos too with the toys and marketable foods (DOUBLE CHUNK CHALK-LIT COOK-EE) they sell to children. Shooting the stimuli directing into the brain…

Actually about a month or so ago a lot of in depth stuff from former beast employees about him covering up sexual predators and faking everything came out.

Michael S. Judge

all this shit noids me out, but it seems pretty intuitive that when all notions of social security or a safety net or a welfare state have collapsed – so thoroughly and for such a long time that young people no longer even haul around the decaying carcasses of those notions in their skulls – well then of course you get a submental Willy Wonka social model in which you have BETTER odds praying for Mr. Beast to give your son prosthetic legs than you do talking to an underfunded incompetent "healthcare" system over the phone. And also Mr. Beast himself looks like AI but is a real person, which I think is key

LOAF

Joy Tactics

Michael S. Judge

the "optimization" point is the key to it, aesthetically – what Mr. Beast does is the opposite of art. He works on tweaking 10,000 parameters of expectation & then delivering precisely upon them. That, and I don't even say this judgmentally (I do, but it's not necessary to be judgmental), is what art isn't. He's an elite anti-aesthetician

Norbur

I agree, but then I feel sick the second I start to parse out why it's distasteful because that's giving it what it wants--more interaction. Same feeling re: Trump

AR

True Añon

Alex

The fact that AI kindle shit sells doesn't surprise me given that like 20% of American adults can't read at a 6th-grade level.

elizabethonline

i deadass keep on getting linkedin job recommendations to be a mr. beast language coordinator in india

SMARCEY

I’m calling my shot early but I think it’s really as simple as kids have a short attention span and Mr beast makes cartoons irl that the kids love.

Court

liz please get brace to try sea moss gel

John Swan

I thought the ep was going to be about that. Instead it was “Mr Beast.. cRaZy right?! We really do live in a society huh. AI is like, bad woah” which is not really news and not as True Añon as Mr Beast allegedly covering for pedophiles.

RazzleDazzleHour

Its crazy that he, by sheer coincidence, looks exactly like the type of guy that an AI would present to you if you asked it to make a human mascot that was most appealing to middle school boys. He's like the perfect middle ground between adult and child, down to the bad facial hair included because it's exactly the kind of bad facial hair a 12 year old would think is cool to have. You get the sense that MrBeast would absolutely do cosmetic surgery if it meant his metrics would be higher, but even if he were gifted alien technology to alter his appearance in any way imaginable, he wouldn't need to touch it because it's already perfect for his goal of making silly and exaggerated but strictly inoffensive faces for youtube thumbnails. It's like he was vat-grown specifically to be exactly who he is

Mop

Think we’re gonna see a huge uptick in babies named ‘Beast’ in years to come.

Noah Z

The chocolate bars truly are the worst chocolate I’ve ever eaten.

Houthi & the Blowfish

Cristiano Ronaldo has a deodorant that I had to buy at an airport because I forgot mine.

Brian Ward

Not being a hater but it's so funny to me that brace has the cheapest version of the kindle. The extreme opposite of not allowing money to change a person. Good for they/them.

elizabethonline

Michael S. Judge

When he starts getting old, it's about to be some Neverland-style problems. Propofol to sleep Saturday and Sunday after staying awake Monday-Friday

Colemanonymous

i know its nitpicking but for some reason it bothers me that people cant differentiate between the energy drink prime and the gatorade version of prime. Although the confusion is probably intentional by prime

Christian Bendillo

As an NC resident I’ve actually entered an existential crisis on the question of whether or not we all look like that.

kmd

The 'giving 1000 people sight' video is so disturbing when you realize they're all people from 3rd world countries or just the US

Jacob

Mr. Beast's cynical approach to video creation reminds me of the teams of ghostwriters and producers that crank out pop music. It is the illusion of art but it is a straight ahead money-making venture. With songwriting, at least, they're writing for a specific "public" space in mind - bars and nightclubs. And there's a tangible social benefit in these spaces. Mass-produced pop songs are cynical art for genuine consumption. With Mr. Beast, and with a lot of YouTube in general, there's no "public" or social benefit. It's cynical art for cynical consumption.

Dogfart Network timbs supplier

Feels like his videos are min maxxed in the same way some insane people play video games and in doing so remove all the fun humanity from those games

Jabroni Ludd

@27:50 It feels like Brace is making the uncanny/canned distinction. Mr. Beast’s style presents as random and spontaneous with wacky kids host energy but in reality is about contriving and controlling every iota of his brand/product. Him being an obsessed, auto-didactic that cracked the funtional outcomes of a digital algorithm sure makes it feel like his future informed his past in a spooky retroactive psychic way

Rengalthbert McCruthersby

Tony Dokoupil, the guy who called Ta-Nehisi Coates an extremist on CBS, has a piece in the new republic about his adult (re)circumcision

Stop the Spread

What appeal are you talking about? I’ve never seen a video of this dude.

TrueAnonPod

Yeah I definitely think part of the appeal as opposed to other child/teen focused videos is that someday, somehow, Mr Beast could be showering YOU with love, attention and $10,000

Michael S. Judge

And at one point, we could all call that "ridiculous," but in 2024, you call up the Social Security Administration to talk about applying for Disability, and they'll tell you "Shit, have you tried Mr. Beast?"

Swimaroo

ARCL adult re circumcision lovers

Max

Mr Beast does have a mansion amd fancy cars, he just hides it to craft his image.

K H

That was a heinous "pause." Banned.

K H

He seemed horny for it. Like he at least pre'd off that a lil.

Jack

Into the trulog for this one

K H

He is the avatar of the modern consumer age. Stripped of all idealism. Perfect and terrible. If he fucked you it would be as a gif. If he touched you it would feel like a rumble pack. When you see him he appears at the optimum resolution of your attention. I'm pretty sure Rogan actually legit thinks he is a robotic ai and that's why he kept referencing Ex Machina.

K H

I legit smiled like that until into highschool. I heard somewhere he does that on purpose for engagement.

K H

Yea. He is honestly not that weird. He is basically a producer. I heard an interview on the radio with some guy that had a bunch of hit songs back in the day of radio top 10s, and the process was very similar to what Mr. Beast has laid out. He described getting really agitated getting songs to fit into these parameters, and all I could think was "wow, I would HATE to play in that band." As successful as they were it seemed horrible. Like turning your spirit into a machine. His songs weren't bad either, catchy. Holy shit that would be unbearable though.

Donnie Ka

Somewhere, like on a podcast...perhaps ?

K H

Is it on the merch store yet?

Ron Watkins

You didn’t mention his crazy crypto scam where he fleeced his fans for millions. I had an idiot friend who lost 20,000$. Check out Refinable coin.

Erin Harper

That’s what Mr. Beast sounds like? Damn.

Max Seppo

Salt is an electrolyte.

DarylBarenziah

Lost my yak milk through my nose at “October seventh style” no wonder Liz puts up with him😍🤡

Don’t you think YouTube just tells you how to game the algorithm once you reach a certain level

Roger Peet

Good one thanks team

Pete Bondurant

You guys really downplayed the stuff about Ava Tyson

Rob Dag

Or just does it for you

Dan Gilbert

Anyone said Aggro Crag yet?!?? The mountain in guts

Buttfarts

I would be disappointed in Liz, but drinking goop and watching YouTube shorts is sort of par for the course for a Polak 😕

jrab

Ever since his vacant smirk and creepy name started popping up everywhere a couple years ago I avoided knowing anything about him… until Dogpack404 dropped his exposé. I encourage anyone interested to check it out because this episode really just kind of scratched the surface.

J

Did something happen to half the episodes on Spotify or am I tripping

Solanuma

mr. beast maximizing profits by studying youtube for thousands of hours and making a science of turning the algorithm in his favor sounds like a big pile of mythologizing horseshit

Mango Bolsonaro

Y’all could’ve made an entirely separate episode with his gambling scams and shady bitcoin activity.

Mango Bolsonaro

Isn’t that mostly just typical weirdo Discord grooming stuff. Not that it isn’t weird, just genuinely don’t know if it’s worth diving into much more. I could be wrong though.

Richard Cochnar

The Prime hydration drinks are tasty as hell. They taste like melted popsicles. Very much fussy baby food but they are good!

“Real” journalists do not have the integrity to ask Belden-style questions like, “Do you find him fucked up to look at?”

Richard Cochnar

Would love to get a piece of that radical rock

CJ

Is Mr Beast just extremely autistic and his special interest is YouTube and that's why all he cares about is making the best video, for his own internal satisfaction, and that's also why people find him hard to work with and not very personable? Also explains the awkward facial expressions etc

hum diddly dee

“ do you find him fucked up to look at? “

CJ

Ah little Jimmy Beastie Boy

eduard karpoev

I'm 21 and he was originally popular around when I was 14 for stuff like his streams counting 100,000 or whatever. So he has been popular for a min

S H

I love you guys. Great episode. I’m so glad Brace learned to read

Khemith

I wanted to yell at the kids for making Mr Beast so rich and famous and then I remembered my generation made Elon Musk rich and famous.

Danny

Brace, the word you were looking for to describe the feeling of seeing Mr. Beast content i think might have been “Luciferian,” maybe “diabolical”

Vincent

If I were Mr Beast, I would name my lunchable knock off "Beastial Delights" but I'm good at marketing.

Sarah Stinard-Kiel

“Girls hate the FDA” is the only accurate thing Brace has ever said about women

Brendan Garcia

I was at a 7-11 and there was some like 8 year old kid ahead of me with his dad, practically jumping up and down and pointing at the Mr Beast Feastables display like “I want one…” and his dad was like “Mr Beast? what is Mr Beast?” and the kid says, “I don’t know but I want it”

Sneed

Get a Kobo, use LibGen

Brendan Garcia

There’s something of MK-Ultra about Mr Beast, like it feels very experimental, in a Stanford prison experiment kind of way.

MCL

Mr Beast just introduced cruel Asian style game shows to the Anglosphere and broke our minds

Eric

Redbar (Mike David) and his wife Jules are the masters of taking down these goons. He’s not a You Tuber (he broadcasts on his own servers 10+ hour eps sometimes) His videos do get clipped to YT tho. He can be incredibly erudite and is one of the funniest humans on earth. https://youtu.be/RVMuawhUuzA?si=gleSqrX6sDXv0xQp

Danny

for the record I don’t even mean morally. it’s inhuman, he is not a person who was born but rather conjured or invited into our world through ritual.

Alejandro Pepsi

Well I liked Max until he slandered Dinosaur Train...

Nick

Max is so personable 🥵

great gambler

Never thought that TrueAnon would mention T-Series on the pod

Calder Marchman

Liz def fucked up at the end and meant to reference “Blast from the Past” instead of “Encino Man.” You can’t even hold it against though her cuz it’s so genuinely uncanny that two movies with essentially the same premise about a holdover from a bygone era being thrust onto LA in the 90’s starring Brendan Fraser came out within 7 years of each other.

Jenny K

this guy is funny I love him

square coats

Same. Since I don't know anything about him outside that expose it made this ep kinda weird

RanCarter

Something worth considering regarding the psyche of The Beast is something that I see in a lot of people re the gig economy etc. It's the kind of gamification of life. Videogames are just a series of challenges and numbers with a facade of fantasy, like gold coins or wizards or whatever. Nowadays, a lot of people enjoy the facade for a while and eventually just get engrossed with the numbers and challenges, and will do anything (usually completely ignoring or breaking the facade that contextualises it) to get more numbers, and beat bigger challenges. Something that scares me is that so many people apply the same logic to life now. Nobody cares about substance or authenticity, context doesn't matter, all you have to do is find a loophole or "hack the system" to get the numbers with no justifiable rhyme or reason. I hope someone knows what I mean...

Domino Books

the cataract thumbnail is sorta like a classic painted Mad magazine cover but with an inverted worldview.

Ben

I just tried watching the first minute of “100 identical twins fight for $250,000” and it’s like the most spastic parts of 2000s TMZ reality show garbage turned up to 11 for tiktok brain

Louis Wilkins

I think Admiral Yamamoto beat him to that punch by a few years. At least, according to my Grandpa who was on Guadalcanal.

Laura Nicholson

Absolutely love your observations about his effect on YouTube but I think your guest undersold the accusations. Jimmy kept an employee under lights 24/7 in isolation, mad him run a marathon without shoes and never aired the footage. There’s a lot more around the CP, environmental damage, as well as sexual abusers (convicted) in his employ. Ava was not so much cheating as sexually extorting an employee. There’s also the issue of Jimmy’s mom owning everything including the intellectual property. Lots of weirdness that is not explained away by sexual squeamishness

ChelseOrElse

The final mountain in GUTS is The Crag

Matthew Norton

I watched one Mr Beast's stupid ass videos while listening to this and now his stupid face is all over my YouTube feed

Robbie

My favourite Breast fact is that his idea of a date with his delightful South African girlfriend is "take an IQ test, then study and see if we can get it higher".

Damien

What kinda dope fiend doesn’t know how to ride a bike

snapplepeachtea

not to do the annoying thing of always comparing america to china, but the only time i ever hear news about chinese internet celebrities is when they die in a freak way or get disappeared by the ccp. who's to say which culture is better

Brooke

I’m a Xiennial and this episode blew my mind. (The only milk chocolate I like is Hershey’s 💅🏾)

WL

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Brooke

P.S. After listening to the episode I still have not watched a Mr. Beast episode and I don’t plan to. I also never watched “2 Girls 1 Cup” (which took effort bc everyone my age was trying to show everyone else) and I’m still good w/ that decision! 🌚

Christian Bendillo

Despite everything, I at least respect him for not immediately moving to LA, NY, or Miami immediately after going viral like every other try-hard freak online.

S. Walker

Damn my wife got the goopy c a couple weeks ago. I had it once

inés

my friend recently told me she got laid off from this songwriting gig where she would write songs for children with cancer. make a wish style. they company fired all the songwriters and replaced them with AI! crazy…

Ligma

It's a bit odd how people poke fun at gen z for being so "prudish", but I've never seen anyone try to investigate why that is. Maybe it would make for a good episode!

Special Adeline

"80 percent dark chocolate is too much" tell me you're not a real dark chocolate head without telling me you're not a real dark chocolate head 🙄

Chapo Bath House

I have a theory specifically about why younger people have been more vocally opposed to sex scenes in movies. 1) the ubiquity of porn 2) The public revelations about Hollywood and how much coercion takes place on and off set. It makes these scenes hard to watch when you know you could be watching someone who was just assaulted by the producer, or that the scene itself was no done with full consent I'm gonna go take my arthritis meds and finish yelling at that cloud gtg

Chapo Bath House

He makes the same horrible expressions I do, tbh

Christopher Mesler

Wait Max's son's name is gus? So's mine, hes almost 2! It's really not that crazy I guess but I half fell asleep while listening to this and you guys started talking about gus and I thought it was my son, weird things were happening in my brain.

dam

Yeah he's just trying to build a company town in NC instead lol

Allison

I had no idea Prime had caffeine in it. Feel bad for buying it for my nephews and then releasing them back on their parents.

420_WEED_MANIAC_69

WEIRD EPISODE. OVERLOOKED AND DOWNPLAYED A LOT OF SHIT. Y'ALL ON FREAKY JIMMY'S PAYROLL?

leah

the young people that complain about sex scenes in media are exclusively into fan fiction

Ligma

I agree, I also think it has to do with kids spending time on public-facing online platforms at younger and younger ages. Any platform that has your name, face, and private chats give creeps unlimited access to kids to prey on. I think a lot of young people feel like their first experiences with sex wasn't their own, but instead it's a tool used to be weaponized against them. I think about how many kids have sent explict content to someone else only to realize that it could come back to ruin their lives. It probably doesn't set them up to have a healthy relationship with sex

Dense Lightning

Don’t appreciate the name Beast Mode being said and no one mentions Marshawn Lynch!? Fail! From the Bay Area I thought love the episode besides that, the guest chuckles a lot like Chomsky. had me wondering in the beginning Covering some of the freaks on yt like Max suggested could make for a fun episode

Ghordo

The horror of Mr Beast is he, consciously or not, is just laying bare the sense that we've really taken all those animal stimulation experiments of the 20th century, applied them to humans, and managed to really fine-tune it. On top of that, while most people either can't pinpoint it exactly or have some kind of bugbear or blinder that prevents them from fully "getting" it, just about everyone has the sense of the total merging of psychology and media to manipulate people, all just for the sake of facilitating fucking ADS! What will this mean for a future where Right wingers who got friendly big and little bourgeois backers with fuck-you money will also be very savvy towards manipulating the algorithm? For example, Owen Shroyer, fear and hate launderer and co-host of Alex Jones' InfoWars, went to college and got majors in Media and Psychology, the explicitly spookiest combination of majors you could get for someone involved in political media. Look it up YouTube might've deliberately forced their algorithm to favor more "positive" videos, but the essence of the technique that allowed all those Right wing guys in the 2010s to proliferate is still there. So much of the old internet, even YouTube*, has been gutted and what largely remains has been repurposed to move ads and ad revenue around, and it's all also built upon a horrifying network of surveillance infrastructures of different states, with the ad/engagement algorithm serving as a legal backdoor to allow such infrastructure to exist. As an aside, Brace and Liz mentioned they couldn't pinpoint what was unsettling about Mr Beast's challenge videos keeping people in places like supermarkets or bunkers, etc. I think what it is is the dreadful suggestion that, on top of being content permitted with obscene amounts of money because they're essentially reality/game shows made ridiculously cheap because its nature as internet content allows for fly-by-night expenses, that will be considered the solution of handling every public space, including third spaces and even condemned buildings: just use them as nothing more than backdrops. We're barreling head-first into a future that incentivizes people to become celebrities who, most importantly, make every action in their day-to-day life an act of performance; we're already just passively taught that being a modern celebrity is the most optimal "job"/status that could give you both money (self-actualization) and "love" (self-realization) * Truthfully, I love and hate YouTube. It's like FaceBook; while FaceBook is the triumphant nightmare-capitalist product that came from a more noble, small-L libertarian internet utopian project (in this case, social media as a tool to improve and facilitate social networks of people), YouTube in its early days had a kernel of potential by essentially being public access TV, on-demand, and available at an international scale. Now it has some of the worst aspects of TV, with a fraction of the quality because its current nature incentivizes individuals to compete for ad revenue, thereby making anything truly analogous to an industrial TV or film production hard to come by.

Brooke

I don’t think anyone under 18 should be watching them either 🫣 I want to have a Wolfpack baby!

CE

I can’t hate YouTube in the way that I hate Facebook or Instagram. I use it for the digital quasi-equivalent of crate digging for music because I live in a small town without a record store and the algorithm does pretty consistently churn up great stuff I wasn’t even looking for, including stuff I could never find in physical media on my own or afford to buy even if I found it. Unfortunately, if you can resist clicking on some dumb shit and make liberal use of the “do not show me this” button, it’s a pretty pleasant place to be despite its toxicity in other respects.

Brendan Garcia

Brace is famous for saying that “all women are beautiful” which is also true.

Some Guy

I think the plastic cap bottles are caffeine free and it's the cans that have caffeine

Dame

“Girls hate the FDA” lmao

Nat Dolitsky

One time a scammer in my DM’s tried to tell me Mr. Beast wanted to commission a portrait of me (I am a nobody). It’s become my truth that Mr. Beast has a secret hallway filled with huge ornate portraits of random girls’ Instagram selfies.

Jason

I was shouting it in the car

gen~

Typical of left wing men to think that trans identifying men who cheat on their wives and leave their families and even talk to teenagers on discord deserve any respect

j_kirb

Damn, just kicking Carolinians while we’re down 💔 … but you ain’t wrong

Adam B

Keemstar used to frequently post/use this weird live streaming roast battle platform that was created by alki David. Anyone remember that?

Axel H.

Yeah it seemed like the most interesting shady stuff came at the end and they just quickly rushed through it. There was way more to say about it, but they mentioned it only to say that it hasn’t led to his downfall. I do think they’re being honest that it’s covoluted and weird and they don’t know anything about it, but it’s worth a deep dive. “YouTube drama” is its own Octopus.

The former junkyard hoochie daddy

I just feel like sex scenes are a waste of time. You can imply two people fucking and make it clear I’ve never seen a film benefit from a sex scene, just feels like fan service/voyeruism.

Axel H.

Wtf are you talking about? Who said anything about respecting Ava Tyson? Is it because they used female pronouns?

Vincent

It's like a gun but you're the bullet

Michelle

I never really paid attention to Mr. Beast before, but I now realize that his schtick is basically the “Homer v. Dignity” episode of The Simpsons, and he’s Mr. Burns with a video camera. Got it.

Nosreffej

I kept thinking about the documentary about the Japanese TV show Denpa Shonen; where they locked a naked man in a room for years and tv viewers loved it. I'm pretty sure there is a beastly connection there

annabeth

as someone living in NC i can confirm… he looks like every other bitch here

Lulu

Vlad and Nikki are annoying Russian child Youtube stars with sicko exploitative stage parents. They have unfortunately been inflicted upon many of us parents. They're not pranksters or a couple. He's right that Bluey is the most tolerable.

Earl Harbor

Of course Brace and Jack are obsessed with Mr. Beast. I bet they touch each others bodies to his videos

Adrienne Graf

“Trans identifying men” stop dragging us into your weird kink loser

Griffin Jones

Typical of peepoo to think that poopee is peepee. Poopoo

Simon Maraya

Good advice for new buyers, but no need to throw out a functional ebook if you already have one - It is very easy to get free books onto the kindle.

Watermane

damn that was another banger

Watermane

someone's jealous smh

Simon Maraya

Check out Don't Look Now, great example imo of the power of a sex scene to illuminate the characters' relationship to one another for the audience. I can't relate to this perspective, for me a successful film provides an emotional and intellectual experience not just an a-b story delivery method. There are bad sex scenes in bad films, and there are good sex scenes which exist solely to elicit vicarious emotion in good films, but if the film hasn't done the work to make it feel valuable to spend time with the characters having sex then I would blame the film as a whole and not just the scene.

Also Called Jean Sans Coeur

I have two basically insane thoughts about Mr. Beast: One is that the thing that's so upsetting about him is that there's this inhuman/post-human quality to him in how by his own admission he has basically hollowed himself out in service of the algorithm. He's rich but he doesn't seemingly live well or have fun, he makes videos (a thing that is generally linked to, if not art, some kind of expression or sharing of the self) but he expresses nothing, there is no intent behind it, no humanity, it is all quite explicitly in service to the machine. It feels like the whole dehumanizing nature of the modern tech-dominated world stripped bare, a walking avatar of The Algorithm. At the same time, I don't think he's dissimilar to a lot of rich business guys in that he's just a walking black hole. These freaks never cash out and live well, they always need to keep the ball rolling and the numbers going up because there's a gaping hole in his soul. It's just that the nature of his business is personally public facing in a way that Jeff Bezos' isn't, but it's the same pathology at play. Also he looks weird and his videos and are human made slop in the same way that the infamous Spider-Man/Elsa/Dentist stuff that polluted Kids YouTube a few years back were.

Eggie

I get what Brace is saying because anytime I see Mr. Beast I think of the Victorian depictions of Spring Heeled Jack and I don't really have a coherent rationalization for it. He just has a cryptid vibe.

slow joe

Has no one else seen all the crazy allegations that have come out against Mr. Beast and his enterprise over the past coupla months from multiple past employees? I was surprised Brace and Liz/the comments weren’t talking about all that.. look up Dogpack404 on youtube… extremely toxic workplace environment…sexual misconduct cover-ups, giveaway scams, psychological and physical abuse of employees (e.g. solitary confinement episodes) using youtube knowledge to predispose children to lottery mechanics, and even having known p*dos on his hiring staff/working around children.. C’mon now guys! Dogpack404 on youtube

Christopher Price

thank you for saying this. I was able to get deep into city pop in 2017 thanks to the old algorithm. I've tried to re-create it but it falls into a rut really quick now.

When you look up “The Downfall of Brace Belden” on google you can find a post from the NYPost (my most trusted source of information) about unions sucking

I like how Brace did a classic not-listening-and-reading-notes and just verbatim repeated what Max said but everyone is too nice to Brace to call him out that little cherub (adult) baby

Michelle C

Bc everywhere else has socialized medicine lol

Shfifty_five

The one that disappears rich, degenerate e-celebs. That one is better.

Christopher Price

john edwards and his perfect lego hair would beg to differ

Shfifty_five

Nah I watched MXC every weeknight as a kid in the early 2000's. and I think there's a non-parodied masochistic Japanese game show that was on the air motion prior to that

Shfifty_five

There's something wrong with his facial affect. It doesn't look like normal spectrum stuff either, it's more of an uncanny valley of artificial/plastic expressions, like the calculated little creep is AI himself.

Shfifty_five

yeah, at that point (after Israel dickriding and "recircumcision" comments) I would call my designated Moyle asset to take the job along with his twig and berries, then off to Tehran for SRS. No chance that dude isn't a rapist, a pedo, or both.

Juan Gonzalez

I haven’t supported small business in 2 years

As a kid the coolest thing you could get was a piece of the Agro Crag on Guts

Aaron Lazar

As for a word that describes Mr beasts face and how it makes one feel may I submit “malshy”. Somewhere between smarmy and wholesome while maintaining a predatory gaze. We can even extend it to the verb - “malshing” which is social manipulation for the purposes of entertainment and profiteering.

Dick Waglin

He ain't from round here

Really great ep. Max is a HOF guest

Mr. Beast = extremely online, completely sober, decaffinated Johnny Knoxville

Mr beast will have a moment like that kony 2012 guy. His life will end some crazy way. Like a robot that has a circuit break

at 1:23:30 screaming AGROCRAG in my empty home. i miss my wife so bad

EZ

Or Beastables

Tom Clarke

Same. I don't youtube, except for music videos and how to fix things.

Ghordo

That's the craziest thing, ain't it? For the past ~4-5 years, internet search engines have gotten WORSE

Ghordo

Which is insanely ironic for a guy that has a literal energy drink based on his "brand"

Ghordo

Seeing other people's comments, yeah in hindsight the TrueAnon gang have barely scratched the surface. You guys are due for a Part 2, or even a multi-parter

Iammax

Dang. Hershey is some of the worst quality chocolate in the world.

Iammax

The Aggro Crag! I sat, jaw agape, letting all their following words pass right thru me. How couldn't they remember the aggro crag, how couldn't they remember the aggro crag... I kept repeating, rocking to and fro, asking myself, until... I dunno, I guess I noticed it was silent. And I had to rewind the episode back to that moment, my mental mettle, now prepared for what was to come ....

Natalie

Hearing TrueAnon talking about Keemstar was disorienting...would love a comment on pigman Ethan klein's delusional posts in support of Israel bc that's where he met his IDF wife

Natalie

yeah the coverage was surprisingly tame - the mention of David dobrik made me realize dobrik was rly the Mr beast prototype

Hot Rod

Clicktivism or consumer charity is not a new thing, tbf. But Mr. Beast completely drains any collectivism from an altruist action, which may not have had any in the first place. It feels uncanny to me bc he has brought collective action or altruism or charity back into the realm of hyper rich individuals like robber barons. Like those ideas or themes shifted from Carnegie types to New Deal programs to black panther type people’s movements back thru Starbucks or target circle donations and now back to snots like Musk or this guy.

Solanuma

His face in his video thumbnails has the same atrifical smooth quality of the blonde white boys they put on the kinder schokolade packaging. Not a coincidence that both are supposed to appeal to kids and teens

Hot Rod

Yeah he’s gone past Jobs-types who are expressively obsessed on their work to this detached obsession. He’s like the CEO from ex-machina. he feels like the end of a simulation. The final copy of a Thing or several Things.

Antifa Annie

Wow 🤌 mark knopfler reference 🤌 chef’s kiss

Also, hydration IV is the only powder thing that does work, if you are ever hungover or dealing with someone who’s hungover, it works

Jdav

Mr Beast looks like PC principal and his chinless pc bros from south park

uya

Mr Beast’s name is so annoying bc no matter the context you always sound like a child talking about him

the idea that Donaldson just reinvests everything and isn’t in it for the money is a myth he spends a lot of effort into perpetuating. It’s not wrong that he’s highly focused on growth but imo he wants to be the first billionaire youtuber. So he’s just doing the normal start up thing of reinvesting into growth over and over again. The reason why I’m even being contrarian about this though is a big part of the myth is that he’s “poor” bc all the money goes back into the channel or the only thing he cares about is making big videos and he’s just doing everything out of the goodness of his heart. In reality he personally is exorbitantly wealthy. During the crypto boom he made over $10,000,000 (that we know of right now) promoting pump and dumps to his fans, started a secret crypto mining business , and started at least two production/behind the scenes type companies that take other youtubers as their clients. That’s not even mentioning the front facing gajillion dollar businesses like his weird food shit and merch. Basically I’m just pushing back bc the dude definitely IS motivated by money and he’s made a lot of it. IMO he clearly wants to be in the top 10 richest people on earth or something insane, he certainly is trying to be a billionaire. And it just so happens that reinvesting back into his channels is the only way he’d ever be able to make that happen. It’s also amazing branding if he can look like some selfless saint

Eric Wiley

Astrocrag was the name of the mountain in GUTS

I think this guy's personal mythology about studying the algorithm by watching a ton of YouTube videos gets the kids to do the same thing in order to be as successful as him by becoming as algorithm brained as him and the algorithm brain is freaking you out because the real danger isn't ai becoming more human the real danger is humans becoming more artificially intelligent

Ligma

Another interesting Beast-related topic is how the gig-economy nature of youtube/content platforms has undercut the traditional regulatory bodies of the entertainment industry. No unions, child labour laws, lottery laws, or safety oversight. It'd be cool to go over this aspect, and it's most egregious perpetuators. (family Vlogers, Mr. Beasts gameshows, kids YouTube ect.)

kitty pavlova

i know a youtuber who runs a channel for “slop” react videos and shorter form drama clickbait content and is completely open about it essentially being a funding engine for his channel of long form videos he views as his actual “art” or creative output. the insane thing about mr beast is it’s just an engine to perpetuate itself. there is no art, creative expression, or anything at all. that’s why he’s inhuman and unsettling; there doesn’t seem to be any goal outside of watching a number get larger. it’s that same feeling when you see a billionaire live an austere freak life devoid of any pleasure.

iaguz

There are times when I think "hmm, this is a really interesting episode, perhaps I should recommend this podcast to friends and/or family" and then Brace drops a line like in his introduction to Max Read and I decide against it. Thanks Brace! And liz and yc too, ofc.

A Wilson

I hate that I know about Keenstar

Luccia

At that age it's marginal

gene82

Hit me up to gaff this show.

BruiseBlu

I think Tony Zarets videos are a great encapsulation of the absurdity of Mr Beast type videos. He satires it in a way that isn’t high brow, but projects the expectations of a Mr Beast video to even dumber than you can imagine. “How I Grew My Head Bigger in 10 Days.” Has a count down meter the whole time that’s like ‘My Most Creative Idea Ever’

Blake

Great episode

Horse Badorties

This will turn out to be a phenomenally weird money-laundering operation

They do a shine and show for vintage mountain bikes here, for nerdy dads to show off their shit. But real ones know if you rip around downtown on a 90s MTB, you will win genuine respect from every crackhead

The Twitter reply section slop is truly insane in its Nazism like ?! No matter the post, you can expect at least 10 replies- primarily from SE/Central Asia, sometimes pretending to be from USA- just the most psychotic racist incitement that would make Hitler blush
