MDUD won the previous romance poll, didn't it? You just chose to do one of the others out of personal interest, and people told you the other show would be a better introduction to romance anime. I'd say do MDUD now, and then what wins this poll (or comes 2nd, considering MDUD is winning) can be the replacement for that when it's over.

Yeah, I understand doing the newer, more-hyped show first, and of course, you can choose what you want to watch, and we're all along for the ride, but there is definitely a strong percentage of your subscriber base polling for MDUD. I'm glad the interest in it didn't die down after the first romance poll back in September. Excited for whatever wins, but you can guess where my vote lies, lol.

It depends on what you liked about Golden Time. If you liked the relationship struggles, including jealousy and misunderstandings, then I think you'd like My Dress Up Darling, as the ship in that has plenty of those struggles, but is less mature as they're in high school instead of college and is overall very lighthearted. It does have fan service if that's a concern, but it serves a purpose rather than just being thrown in for the sake of it, as is often the case in anime. I couldn't get into Kaguya Sama, dropped Horimiya, and haven't seen Your Lie in April, so I can't vouch for them. I'd recommend looking them up and reading the synopses. Ultimately, your vote is yours, so you shouldn't vote for what others tell you to. If you can't decide, it's okay not to vote; sometimes it can be fun to just go along for the ride.

If you are thinking about the last romance poll where MDUD won, she explicitely stated there that this was to see what people were interested in and that it wouldnt necessarily be the show she watches next. The "Please vote wisely" makes me scratch my head though. Not sure what she is implying or expecting with that. It's not like we are smart and wise, does she not know us at all? 🤣

All these shows are great for their own reasons, if she can handle fire force i think mdud won’t be an issue and she’ll see how peak romance it is. It’s quite ecchi yes and has a couple pointless lewd scenes, but the male lead isn’t a lust goblin kind of guy so that helps it immensely in my opinion.

I don’t get the people freaking out about MDUD, it s a wonderful show. The people acting like it’s a mindless ecchi show are ridiculous. The ecchi is there - yes, to hook viewers, it more importantly it’s there for very specific character-driven reasons. I’m not going to act like it’s high art, but it’s definitely a top-tier romance (as are others in this list). It’s also just a really darn fun show with great characters. If it really makes people’s feels calm down a bit, the author is a woman.

Oh don’t get me wrong! It’s one of my absolute favorite manga and anime ever. But on a recent rewatch there are a few shots i guess i should say that truly add nothing and our boy isn’t even involved. Just the random panty shot stuff with some of the other characters that rub people the wrong way.

Still it’s unnecessary most parts MDUD is a great story that I feel most people drop because of the Ecchi shit, gojo and marin are both good characters but even i felt weird having to watch the fan service scenes

Season One of MDUD is heavier on the fanservice, but if you get past that initially, you come to adore the characters for who they are, what they represent and the messages they convey. It's a feel good story, meant to promote self esteem and self love while telling a high school love story. Season Two takes the good from the first season, tones down the fanservice a few notches, and places it's theme and subject matter first and foremost, which let's it's characters and message shine through. I'd go on to say the second season is more representative of what the show is about, and delivers a core message that more people need to hear these days, showing the good and loving side of exploring your hobbies and being true to who you are. All of that said without mentioning the absolutely phenomenal job Cloverworks did with the animation and sound design / soundtrack of MDUD in both seasons. Technically the show is a treat for the eyes, animated with love and attention, and is a love letter to cosplay in general. To let the fanservice derail that would really be a true shame. In terms of serious non-comedy related romance series, I would say alongside Blue Box and Golden Time, you have one of the best animated romance shows in a long time.

i can testify on the animation. it was great even tho i only watch the first two eps because of the reason that you stated first. from the previous poll i guess all three other than april are also good. i just a bit bump that w wont see her reacting to april any time soon. i was asking her lat year on April if we have the time to start watching it on the same month, that would be poetic. i hope one day we will.

Alternatively, it's possible that they just like the themes and tropes more. Kaguya-sama is a good series, but personally, it felt more like a comedy than a romance to me, so I dropped it midway through season 2.

Thats a bit how I feel about Kaguya as well, its outstanding with the comedy and to be fair, the romance is on par as well, I just dont ship them as much as some other coupes like the one in MDUD. so im a little more invested in the comedy than in the romance there. But thats marginal and only personal preference. Also, if she ever watches Kaguya (which I hope) and we get to the OVA, you will have to explain yourself for that take on MDUD fans ;).

Sorry for late reply. Maybe so, but ive seen several other reactors that are sensitive about this topic and a part of their community was very against this show because of it, like The React Pack or Carlie & Ange. It still won and both loved the show and continued with season 2. Still, its fair to at least warn Flexie about it and let her decide.

I'm a big fan of carlie and ange and I'm telling you they're not sensitive at all to fan service but my dress up darling just takes it to a whole new level. The amount of fan service especially in the anime made me just flat out not watch it unless I hear it's one of the greatest shows ever which it isn't obviously. I think the fact that it won last time poll and she still didn't watch it is a clear evidence for me. But anyway, maybe she likes it if she watches it. I do want say that I'm rooting for kaguya though. That's my favorite romance/comedy anime.

I think that if the show had no fan service, it wouldn't get even 20% of this popularity. That's just my humble opinion. It doesn't mean it's not good. Popularity has nothing to do with that. I'm just discussing the impact of fan service.
