All the Xing characters are fantastic, Ling in particular. I love them all so much, but I'd be hard pressed to have them sniff my top 10 because there are so many amazing characters in this.

m li

completely off topic, but i absolutely love your makeup flexie!!!!

It's hard to remember- haven't watched the original anime in ages.. (wait- actual decades now.. Im old help) and stopped once it started deviating from canon (due to the manga being in progress). But I think that was the main issue with it was the lack of humour? It just really leaned into the heavy elements of the story with little respite and- that comedy and respite is so needed with this story. You have to have something to fight for, you know? If everything is all doom and gloom, whats the point in fighting? Gotta keep things in balance. Cause at the end of the day, despite how much death and hardship is in this story: FMA is really a story all about the joy of life. I also love how we never forget those that die. :') You can feel how Hughes is still such a huge part of this story, even if he is no longer with us.... tragically beautiful. ✨

AttackRunRepeat

I love Ling, he's balanced out so well by his stern badass assassins.

Just a little tidbit of information on the side: In Renaissance alchemy, alkahest was theorized to be the "universal solvent", by that being able to dissolve any composite substance without altering or destroying its fundamental components. In doing so alchemists hoped to extract the fundamental virtues and properties of the substances, thus gaining control of invaluable healing properties. For this reason it was about as earnestly sought and researched as the philosopher's stone. Paracelsus, a Swiss alchemist of the 16th century even believed it to be the philosopher's stone. Naturally, alchemy was a rather esoteric predecessor of today's chemistry. Just thought I'd maybe give a little bit of real life context about where the mangaka drew inspiration and philosophies from.

This episode is what manga fans were waiting to get animated, Ling and May Chang never appeared in the 2003 anime

Yearling

Fyi the voice actor of ling is the same one as light in dearh note

Ben

Ling my goat! the xing cast already here dropping major world lore and revealing a brand new kind of alchemy the brothers have never seen. its fun that may who knows alkehestry went with scar who isnt really all that interested while ling went with ed and al but knows jack all about alkehestry. it a fun twist

Ranking characters in this show is really difficult for me because they're all so good and the show is great at giving each of them a chance to shine.

APieceOfCoffee

The intro/outro OST was my favorite playlist for running. Listening to it now still makes me want to burst into a run :)

Russ Tan

This might be the only show where I can fully agree with and see people's points of views for their favorite character. The most common picks all have their merits. They really do a wonderful job at developing characters throughout.

yorozuya3835

you should listen to 2003 FMA soundtrack's specifically an ost called bratjat. it suck that they did not used it for the remake.

Zo

Heyy flexie would you be open to listening to the OP while looking away from the screen like you do with some other series? It'd be nice if you got to experience the songs throughout the cour while still avoiding spoilers. But if not, that's totally okay too!

Rannos Twentytwo

The silver alchemist really reminds me of mad Pierrot from Cowboy Bebop

Cetus

Gotta love how the plot just becomes more and more complicated with so many new characters the past few episodes. There's a lot going on now aside from the brothers trying to reclaim their bodies

Alex Hencher

Got love how honest Barry the Chopper is. Mustang gets old cold and asks if he killed his friend, Barry doesn't say now. He says he doesn't remember, and asks if he was chopped up. No BS, just an honest psychopath

Alex Hencher

The shows definitely had different vibes. The OG spaced it out by having heart warming moments instead of comedy. We definitely saw Ed and Al helping more people even if it was filler.

D.Pirate.K

I don't know about anybody else, but this ending song and visuals really makes me want to cry every time I see and hear it when I'm watching this anime. It hits in the feels

Naogin

FINALLY LING MY GOAT

FlexiejayAnime

Oh whaaat?! Thanks for that info - dang I figured I’d get much further into the show before seeing a comment like this.

Sukramus

Isn't the healing of scar's leg also a form of human transmutation? Interesting that alkahestry can just do that.

Kaus D

All Might's VA

Russ Tan

Yeah, it's kind of wild. They started making the original FMA way early into the manga's run and were given free reign to diverge and do their own thing. It's a very different experience.

JojoJack

You should watch the 2003 anime after finishing Brotherhood.

Antestarr

Some years back I had a roommate who loved the 2003 anime and said he preferred it because it was darker. He asked what in Brotherhood could possibly make it better than the older one, and I said Ling Yao. My roommate conceded the point.

Drift3r

All the FMAB intros and outros just bring the nostalgia back so hard. They are all 10/10 IMHO. FMAB does not has one intro or outro that I don't like.

Buki

I would love to see Flexie react to the OP and EDs from all the anime she has watched but in their official music video format ( if available). It would be pretty awesome

skye

i agree with this so much regarding having so many amazing characters in this show

skye

Ling my beloved!! i love him lol. rewatching this with your reactions/comments have been such a joy and i love that you like to theorize and love lore bc this story has all that. this show also just has so many amazing characters. Ed is my personal favorite (and he's also one of my top fav anime characters in general) but i also have a hard time choosing a top 10 in this show bc i just wanna add a lot of them lmao

BigHeadClan

Huh never though about it like that, I guess it depends under what circumstances its occurring I'd argue it only really crosses the line into human transmutation if you are actually manipulating and changing the body itself. If they are simply using the environment around them to synthesize blood, skin (mainly water, fat, protein and trace minerals) and graphing it onto a wounded area as a form of advanced you really aren't transforming anything that is already present. You are simply treating the injuries by replacing lost blood and closing the wound you really aren't changing anything, simply adding to what was previously lost or missing. An interesting thought experiment though.
