Monster Manual Review

Comments

Rod Thomson

We LOVED Hawk the Slayer back when it was new. I watched it again recently after your mention of it in an earlier episode, and have to say the poor movie has not held up well. But boy howdy, did it influence our D&D games back in the early 80s! It beat Tolkein hands down in that regard.

Dig it. There is so much out there to hear about, this makes it easier to figure out what system to play next.

Bagel-Man

Excited to watch this, I’m a big fan of DCC

Rob Edgar

"Because Orcs are...People now". LMAO. You edited and delivered that line perfectly PDM

Chris Thomason

Don’t talk like that about Hawk the Slayer too loudly on the internet. Them’s some serious fighting words in some circles. 😂

Chris Thomason

The DCCverse is the only one worth living in.

I remember spending several years trying to make a Hawk based campaign in the early 80s and never got it right (being a high schooler probably contributed). It's great to hear someone has given it a good treatment now.

Lee Dunning

With the seemly lukewarm reception of the new system, I'm hoping that reviews of other systems will start getting more traction. Keep fighting the good fight, Professor.

Scott

The ORC (Ork Rights Convention) has declared Orks are people now! I am looking forward to hearing what Angry Dwarf thinks of this!

MrGunn

Dear Professor, Thanks for these reviews. I hope your new approach gives your YouTube videos some traction. Best regards, MrGunn

I’m undecided on the new Monster Manual. With the previous one I would get frustrated looking for a particular creature alphabetically but didn’t find it so had to check the index to find it. So I do like being able to just look under the letter. But, I also appreciated having all of the dragons, devils, demons grouped together in one place. So I’m not sure there is one single approach I’d be fully happy with.

Your reviews of the MM & XCC are spot on. I can't wait to run XCC for my players! I will have to check out that Hawk module, the movie is a blast! I tend to enjoy the low budget movies more lately, even if they are cheesy. The time capsule aspect of them is part of the fun, and the stunts and effects are more impressive to me than CGI.I like this review format a lot. If you pair a couple of indie titles with the new D&D books as they come out, it could be very effective.

NØKKEN_WAITS

Love this format! This is good stuff.

Quest Givers. I was wondering what those guys were up to. They've got some good stuff and not enough attention.

Jonny Himes

Masterful review, as always! Pairing indie stuff with brand names seems like a strong strategy! Let me know when it's going to air on YT, and I'll be sure to alert my phan base (you know, all those phan delvers -- they are so based! All their Base R Belong to Us.)

Pinxton

Have a creative meeting with deathbringer. Maybe he could make us a watch video.

You and Glicker should play "Tropicrawl Cataclysm" - the XCC adventure I wrote!
