Great video as always professor!

Very cool and very inspiring. I’ve not painted any minis in over 20 years and this sure gets me thinking I might be able to get back into it! Tell DB to let me know how things went with Dua Lipa!

I understand the algorithms and all but still wish people wouldn't call this "slapchop" as staining over zenithal with inks has been around for a long time (one of my earliest white dwarf magazines from 2008 has a tutorial for this). That being said I was about to leave the painting hobby just as contrasts dropped and have been using them ever since on almost every mini.

Thoughts on Vallejo's Xpress paints? I saw Vallejo model color bottles on the desk, so presumably you use some Vallejo paints. As a beginner, I've just been using Vallejo so far, and trying to get use to their paints.

Good video. Yep, painting is great for relaxation. The Creature Caster minis do look awesome but wow kind of expensive IMHO. And slap chopping. I've thought about it but even after all this time, I have a hard time staying inside the lines. :)

I gotta go with the algorithm, but I hear you. I may mention this in my orc video. If I don't credit you, it's only because I'm forgetful.

Sampo Keskitalo

No need to credit I have not invented anything! High tide lifts all the boats or something in that vein.

I’ve tried the speed paints. I’m not sold on them yet, but I may not be using them correctly. I’ll give them another go using your tips and methodology.

I totally get your approach of painting minis so they can be used in the table. Otherwise what’s the point? For a protective varnish for minis I highly recommend yacht varnish. It’s polyurethane which is what Quickshade is made from. Most hardware stores will carry it and you can usually get it in spray or brush on varieties.

Thanks for another painting video. Very enjoyable.

guess I'm out of tune, but hadn't heard of slapchop as a painting term before - always good to have a tutorial on faster painting, thank you :)

love this vid!

Slapchop has changed my hobby life. I probably use this technique 80% of the time now, but it's best on minis with lots of texture like furs, hair, armor, etc. Anything with larger smooth or round surfaces, like some MCP Superhero type minis, still do best with traditional acrylics as the slapchop speedpaints tend to pool and blotch on larger smooth areas. Also, I have started priming white or light gray and then washing the entire mini with a dark wash (like an Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil). This is quicker than the traditional slapchop which primes black and drybrushes gray/white over the top.
