All over the place! Breakdowns, tutorials, behind-the-scenes- this is what's up with the spaceship situation.

Here's the link to Erindale's XInput controller addon for blender (and accompanying video)Once you have that installed, the spaceship simulator I mentioned should work (if you have a windows machine and an Xbox controller)- I might update this once I dig into landing gear and all that! And the accompanying spaceship simulator post from a while back. And Lux's fabrication patreon!

I am the first, ye

the spaceship interior looks incredible, I think a little tiny bit of soft haze with that lighting will really up the production value when you go to shoot esp with that composition friendly two door shot You could even integrate the haze machine to make it look like part of the ship and just hit it on between shots

IanHubert

Ah thank you!! I was thinking that exact same thing today! It's probably time I figured out a hazer anyways!

Hairynscary

Damn that controller set up could have some fun possibilities. Appreciate the vid! Ship and map look sick.

Thomas Sturm

The way you made the map in Blender is just blowing my mind right now. I'd never thought of using Blender for something like that and it's actually easier than in most of the vector tools I know how to use. I need to try this!

It's Saint Beer-us the third!

The set looks amazing! Throw a haze machine in there and it's going to be epic. Check out Smoke Genie, it's small but it works pretty well

Lux Taylor Art

Oh hey that's my midlife crisis right there!

SwaMusic

YESSS! Photo editing IN BLENDER! So much faster! Haha

SwaMusic

Oh my GOSH! That map is GLORIOUS :O

that spaceship set is genuinely like hopping into a parallel dimension, the amount of excellent detail lux dotted around is mad.

IanHubert

Blarghe- is that Patreon doing weird stuff? Did it end up working for you??

Hi, I've been learning modeling for quite a while but I am struggling to learn basic texturing, I find way too much tutorials about it with different approaches. Did you consider doing separate tutorial about texturing and your most commonly used nodes? Like that "Emphasis on Modeling Quickly"

zhuyi liu

No, it's still not working. I've reported it to the official support, but the problem hasn't been resolved. I don't know what the issue is.

For me, it was because I was using a VPN. When I turned my VPN off, it let me watch the video. I'm guessing YouTube was IP-blocking me from watching embedding videos.

zhuyi liu

That makes sense, but due to certain special reasons I have to use a VPN, um... I'll think of something else. Thanks, bro.

zhuyi liu

I finally solved the problem. The reason was that I had logged into my Google account on another computer. In Google Device Manager, I just needed to log out of the newly logged-in device.

Hi~ the camera shake addon will update to support blender 5.0 ?~

Simple Silicon

With 5.0 bringing Internal HDR, have you played around with the HDR rendering pipline? If not, do you have any plans to do so?

IanHubert

Oh! Sorry I'm just now seeing this- that's a great idea! Yeah I'll try to do something like that soon!

video wont play in chrome, says video not available

The ship set looks great! You can really see the time being spent on the details. The projection idea sounds interesting, I have also struggled with getting contrast in it before. I realize this is a space ship and could move but if you are mainly showing one set or exterior back there you should look into printing it. If you are only seeing it flat you can use a very cheap vinyl printing with soft lights and achieve great range. If you want to invest a little more there is a matte polyester that you can make a big L or C curve around the ship and you won't see the lights reflected and its affordable. Then there is also the brand name duratrans or translites which you can back light and they look very real. There are also a few rental shops in LA and NYC that will ship you a backdrop some of them you can backlight for nighttime (they have areas that are masked in the back to create sillouettes) and front light them for a daytime look. If you are landing your spaceship in a desert or something like that a rental would work. You could also design something in 3d, project it on to the wall or a canvas on the wall and trace and paint it. It's very affordable and can produce really lush results. If you want to get extra fancy you make a mid ground scaled model, add some practicals in the model and then you have some parallax. Even if you had a volume stage, sometimes you can't beat the consistency of a backdrop. Oh also stardrops are a cheap but amazingly effective way to get stars, the modern ones allow you to dial in how many stars you want. There is alway a diy version of just popping single led's through a stage black that also looks great.

Love the "manual flight computer" vibes of the SpaceMap. "Ugly like an engineer put it together" indeed! Very cool.

hey guys, i set a similar scene up to Ian with the cube and the motor constraint, and i can get it to spin, but the empty stays still and the cube rotates on the spot. I've watched it a few times now and can't work out what I'm doing differently. Even if i don't connect up the controller input as a driver and just let the Linear Target Velocity drive it, it still just rotates the cube on it's own axis. Would appreciate some help please! cheers!
