Mist and the Chaos Gacha Part 19 (Patreon)

"You take your revenge seriously, don't you?" Harry asked as he watched Mist fill Fudge's coffin with wet cement.
"Death would be a kindness and after the shit he pulled, I'm not feeling particularly kind," Mist replied as he turned the cement machine off and closed the coffin lid.
Harry glanced over at the construction worker that ran the concrete machine who was very obviously eating his lunch and not looking in their direction. "Should we worry about the construction guy that let us fill a coffin with concrete and didn't ask any questions?"
"Considering I slipped him five gold coins and he never saw the body, no," Mist replied absently as he activated his Gate Creation ability, not particularly worried about the man's morals or lack of morals since that was probably a fourth of his yearly income for less than ten minutes of work.
"I guess," Harry admitted after half a minute of thinking about the situation. "Are we burying him or tossing him in the ocean?"
"I'm pretty sure the pressure would eventually break the coffin, we might as well bury him," Mist replied as he opened a portal to near the tracks in the Fallout world, trusting his Radiation Absorption ability to catch all of the radiation that came through the portal. He used his Move Earth power to surround the coffin with dirt and shove it through the portal into the other world then started shifting the dirt out from under the coffin, sinking it into the ground.
"How far down are you going to bury him?" Harry asked.
"At least fifty feet," Mist replied as he focused on sinking the coffin, wanting to make sure the bastard had trouble digging himself out if he ever got out of the concrete.

Mist checked the card with his Piercing Eyes ability. 'Man in the Mirror, you're able to go into any mirror as if it were a real portal and access the mirror dimension, a replica of the real world without anything living inside. The only way to enter and exit other than spacetime abilities is you dragging people inside or outside.'
"And that is that," Mist muttered as he closed the portal and opened the card.
"Back to the Chamber?" Harry asked, fairly sure Hermione was probably climbing up the walls since they'd taken so long at the ministry.
"Yeah," Mist replied, not seeing a reason to stick around the construction site now that they'd filled the coffin.
Harry gestured with the hand that was wearing the portal ring and opened a portal back to the Chamber of Secrets then stepped through. He waited for Mist to walk through the portal and closed it.
Sirius relaxed a touch when he saw that Harry was smiling. "Did you run into trouble with Fudge?"
Harry shook his head. "No, we barely saw a soul until we got to his office. Fudge was talking to Malfoy so we waited until he was done then slipped in and Mist hit the minister over the head with a sap."
Hermione scowled as she thought about Fudge. "I'm surprised he didn't have guards."
"He probably told them to take a break since he was sending Lucius on a suicide mission to kill Voldemort," Harry offered.
"I can see where that would hurt morale," Sirius said thoughtfully.
"I'm not sure he actually cares anymore," Mist replied, fairly sure Fudge had let the power go to his head. "Once I had him unconscious, I poured a sleeping potion down his throat, slapped some magic draining cuffs on him, locked him in a coffin, tossed it through a portal to the Fallout world and buried it fifty feet down."
"Now what?" Hermione asked, not quite sure what they were supposed to do now since it would take a while to fix the damage Fudge had caused to the ministry.
"Honestly, we should probably have Harry open a portal to the graveyard then we can walk to the Gaunt shack and I can break the curse on Voldemort's soul anchor which should break it. That just leaves Hufflepuff's cup in Gringotts, Slytherin's locket in Number 12 and Ravenclaw's Diadem in the Room of Requirement at Hogwarts for his last soul anchors, assuming his snake dies in the blast."
"Blast?" Sirius asked.
"I stuck a marble enchanted with a Holy Light bomb in Malfoy's pocket, that should take out Voldemort's physical body and a lot of the death eaters. It only works on dark creatures but I'm pretty sure most of the Death Eaters count," Mist explained, curious how many death eaters the blast would kill. 'Sorry Lucius, you don't get to walk away this time.'
Sirius smirked as he imagined Voldemort's burning corpse. "If nothing else, it would probably burn the dark mark and kill Voldemort."
"Does that mean we can go back to school?" Hermione asked, not sure how she felt about going back.
"Do you want to go back?" Harry asked, hoping she said no. "Because I've never actually had a vacation and I don't want to get dragged into the middle of things. I don't really want to have to explain shite."
"I'm with Harry, I'm not going back until they fix things," Luna piped up from where she was cutting strips of basilisk hide with a goblin silver knife.
Hermione glanced between Harry and Luna and smiled when she realized that she didn't actually have to go back or be the perfect student. "Fine, we can come back for the owls at the end of the year, Sirius can probably cover everything and Defense, Potions and History were basically self study anyways."
"I don't mind being a teacher but we're going to kidnap Remus for Defense and Dora because the Ministry is going to collapse and I'm not leaving one of the only reasonable family members I have left to die in the confusion."
"Speaking of teachers, I might know where to find a decent potions teacher," Mist offered.
"Oh?" Sirius asked.
"Yeah," Mist replied with a grin. "It's just going to take a bit of work and I'll have to swing by the library to grab some gold for the bribe but I have a feeling everyone will like her. I just don't want to ruin the surprise if it doesn't work."
Sirius raised his eyebrows as he studied Mist's expression. "Why do I feel like we're getting pranked?"
"I promise it's a good prank," Mist assured him.
"Okay," Sirius agreed, willing to wait and see for the moment.
Harry focused on the graveyard where Voldemort had come back to life and used the ring to open a portal. "Let's go."
"Sure," Mist replied as he stepped through the portal.

Mist cast his detection spell on the innocent looking gold ring that he'd pulled out of the box under the Gaunt family shack. 'Resurrection Stone, spin the stone three times to call back shades of the dead from the dimension it was created in. These shades are merely imperfect copies of the dead in spirit form. Yeah, that tracks.'
He jumped and yanked his hand back as he got two more achievements as he reached for the ring that was on the ground.

Mist relaxed as he realized that it was just weird timing and not a warning that he hadn't properly de-cursed the ring.
"Problem?" Hermione asked, having noticed the extra cards appear in his hand and the fact that he'd yanked his hand back away from the ring on the ground like it was on fire.
"No, I just got confirmation that my light bomb crippled Voldemort right as I was reaching for the ring and I panicked," Mist admitted as he picked the ring up.

"Understandable," Hermione assured him. "What did you get the cards for?"
"Reducing Voldemort to spirit form and crippling his spirit form, apparently the Holy Light worked better than I was expecting," Mist replied with a grin. "I also got a card for breaking at least five lethal curses on the ring and for acquiring an artifact."
"The ring counts as an artifact?" Sirius asked in disbelief.
"No but the Resurrection Stone someone set into the ring does," Mist replied with a smirk.
Hermione glanced between Mist and Sirius. "Do you think Voldemort knew that he had it?"
"I doubt it, he probably wouldn't have ended up quite as messed up if he could have talked to his mother now and then," Mist replied with a shrug. "Of course, it's entirely possible that he knew and just didn't care since the stone only summons copies of the dead."
"So, they're not real?" Harry asked in disappointment.
Mist shrugged. "They're real enough to get information from and they can certainly answer questions but they lack that spark that makes someone worth getting to know."
"Who are you planning on summoning?" Sirius asked.
"I'm not," Mist replied as he dropped the ring in his inventory. "There are probably countless historical figures that are worth summoning to a historian but the stone doesn't force the shades to talk or to tell the truth. It's also limited to creating shades of people that died in your world which means that it can't summon my grandparents or anyone from my bloodline."
"Makes sense," Sirius muttered, resisting the urge to ask him to borrow the stone so that Harry could meet a version of his parents.
"What are you going to do with it?" Hermione asked.
"I'll probably give it to a historian or something," Mist replied as he turned to look at the Gaunt family shack. "Does anyone care if I burn the building down?"
"Why would you burn the shack down?" Hermione asked.
"Because Riddle owns it and because I haven't burned anything down yet, it's probably worth a card," Mist replied with a grin.
Sirius laughed. "You sound a bit like James when we were dealing with Death Eaters, let's burn it or we haven't burned anything lately, wait, no that was me."
Harry shook his head, wondering what it would have been like growing up with Sirius.
"Can we get marshmallows?" Luna asked hopefully.
"You're better off just making a small fire for marshmallows, the big ones are too hot," Mist told her.
Hermione raised her eyebrows. "Practical experience?"
"My parents logged the property when I was a kid, we had some amazing and really hot bonfires, you could barely get close," Mist explained as he swapped his Holy Light ability for his Godslaying Flames ability and gestured at the shack, causing the entire structure to catch fire.
Sirius took a step back as a wave of heat washed over them from thirty feet away. "Does that work on people?"
"It works on just about everything," Mist replied as he watched the supernatural flames quickly consume the old structure.

"We should probably leave before Albus shows up, he probably has monitoring spells in the area," Sirius warned them.
"Give it a minute," Mist replied as he watched the shack collapse. He let his flames vanish, leaving behind the more normal flames that the heat had spawned. He swapped his flames ability for his Ice Age ability and gestured as he started creating building sized ice cubes over the fire.
"Do you think that will actually contain the fire?" Harry asked.
"Probably," Mist replied as he slammed the giant ice cubes into the remains of the building, shattering the remaining wall and causing the ice to quickly start melting, doing a decent job of putting out the remaining fires. He gestured and unleashed his power, covering the entire site with several inches of ice and making sure the flames wouldn't spread.

"I guess icing the Dark Lord's ancestral home is something of a statement," Mist muttered, a bit surprised that he'd gotten a card for merely freezing the place after destroying it. 'Or maybe burning it to the ground was the statement?'
"Where to?" Harry asked when he realized that Mist was lost in thought, wanting to leave before Dumbledore showed up.
Mist glanced at Harry. "You should probably hand the portal ring to Sirius, we need to make a stop at Godric's Hollow."
"Why?" Sirius asked, not wanting to see the ruined house again.
Mist sighed. "Unless events changed from the books, Harry has never seen his parents' graves."
"I haven't," Harry admitted as he took the portal ring off and handed it to Sirius.
Sirius's eyes narrowed, a touch surprised despite knowing how much of a bitch Lily's sister was. "Petunia never took you?"
"No." Harry scowled as he thought about his aunt and uncle.
"To be fair, I'm not sure anyone actually told her where they were buried," Mist pointed out.
"It wouldn't have been hard to check," Sirius grumbled as he put the ring on, knowing that Petunia knew where Lily lived.
"I'm not actually defending her, I'm just saying I can understand trying to ignore the magical world, especially when your sister has magic and you don't," Mist told him.
Sirius focused and used the ring to open a portal to the backyard of the Potter Cabin, figuring it would be less likely to get noticed than the graveyard which was open to the public. "Let's go."
Mist walked through the portal and grinned slightly as he got another achievement.

Mist moved out of the way so everyone could get through and focused on making a portal back to the mountains where he'd left his wagon with the gold and gems, knowing he'd need it for bringing Harry's parents back from the dead.
Hermione followed Harry and Luna through the portal and turned her attention to the partially destroyed stone cabin that had lost one side of the second story to what looked like an explosion.
"Where are we?" Harry asked as he looked over the overgrown yard.
"This is where you lived before being sent to the Dursleys," Sirius said as he stepped through the portal and let it close behind him a second before Fawks and Dumbledore appeared near the remains of Riddle's family home.

Mist ignored the achievement and his stack of cards for the moment as he concentrated on opening the portal to the right location. He relaxed slightly as the portal opened and he saw the wagon filled with chests, boxes and loot. He summoned Wendy, causing her to vanish from the library and appear in front of him.
Wendy glanced around then focused on Mist. "Hey Boss, how did the mission go?"
"Pretty good," Mist replied as he stuck the stack of cards in his inventory so he could use both hands to grab one of the chests of gold. "We dropped the train off in the cavern, got to party with a bunch of heroes and buried Fudge in a grave, it was a good day."
"Sounds like it," Wendy replied with a grin.
"Any trouble on your end?" Mist asked.
Wendy raised her hand to chest height and held her thumb and index finger half an inch apart. "Some of the girls freaked out when the portal back to town closed but thankfully no one was using it at the time, I'm pretty sure it broke when you jumped worlds."
Mist winced, happy that no one had gotten cut in half because he'd forgotten to warn people. "Yeah, I'll swap things when I get back, I picked up a Gate Creation ability that lets me keep ten portals open permanently, using a couple to make moving around the area easier isn't a big deal."
"Especially if you can turn them into magic items so they don't count against your ability," Wendy suggested.
"Worth a shot," Mist agreed. "I should have everything in Harry's world wrapped up in a couple of hours and then I'll introduce everyone."
"Sounds good, are you going to leave the portal open?" Wendy asked.
Mist shook his head. "I wasn't planning on it, I don't want any invasive species jumping worlds, especially in the magical world."
Wendy nodded. "Stay safe, I'll tell the girls."
"Thanks," Mist replied and closed the portal.
Harry pulled his attention off the destroyed section of the second floor. "Is there a reason no one bothered to seal the place or repair the damage?"
"The Ministry declared it a landmark because of Voldemort's fall," Sirius grumbled. "Remus should have dealt with it but he's a werewolf and didn't have the connections to get the ruling reversed. Dumbledore didn't want to make any waves or admit where he'd sent you because people were looking that didn't have your best interest at heart. We'll get it fixed eventually."
"Yet another thing to blame the ministry for," Harry grumbled, seriously considering just never coming back with the exception of slipping in while disguised to buy supplies and books.
"Sometimes the best revenge is killing your enemies and sometimes the best revenge is skipping dimensions and letting people clean up their own shit," Mist said as he started making his way toward the edge of the property so they could head to the graveyard.
"We'll get it fixed," Hermione offered, trying to make her friend feel better.
"It's just a house," Harry lied as he followed Mist.
"Shouldn't be," Sirius complained as they made their way around the ivy covered house, not particularly happy about the way it had just been left to rot.
'Probably just as well that I don't have to put up with the ministry,' Mist mused as they reached the sidewalk and he saw the destruction up close. He spent a minute using his Piercing Eyes ability to scan the house, looking at all of the water damage and the toys and clothing scattered around that no one had even bothered to pack up for Harry. 'This type of shit is how you get dark lords.'
Mist pulled the stack of cards out of his inventory and checked the top one, trying to keep his temper in check since the house wasn't his and since Lily and James would be around to deal with it shortly. 'Sprinkle: allows you to telekinetically control water to a minor degree, while it does not have enough power output to hurt someone, it can still be used to douse someone or remove moisture from inanimate objects etc. Could be worse.'
He opened the card and looked at the next card. 'Cloak of Billowing: a fancy embroidered red cloak that can billow majestically even in the absence of wind. Yeah, that's basically trash but Selena might be able to figure out how to copy it,' he mused as he opened the card.
"You should probably avoid using those with muggles around," Hermione warned Mist.
Mist glanced at the old man down the street that was picking an apple from his tree and not paying them any attention. "I'm not staying and most people would just assume I was playing with fireworks or crystals or something because everyone knows magic doesn't exist."
"Just relax, we can always tell them that we're practicing magic tricks for a talent show," Sirius offered, thinking about the number of times he'd used that excuse growing up.
"Mist already removed the trace, we'll be fine," Luna pointed out.
"Alright," Hermione muttered, still not used to the idea of ignoring the law despite the last couple of months of wanting to burn the ministry to the ground.
Mist frowned slightly when he checked the next card and saw the Intermediate Performance card that would give him the ability to play all basic musical instruments and sing well enough to assemble his own semi-successful band. 'Yeah, none of that actually fixes the fact that songs don't really stick in my head, so it's basically useless.'
'Yeah, I should probably just save this,' Mist decided and tossed the card in his inventory, figuring he'd save it for one of the girls that actually wanted to be a performer.
"Let's go, we can worry about the house later," Harry suggested as he started walking down the street.
"Should we tell him that he's going the wrong way?" Sirius asked.
"Are we?" Hermione asked.
"No, I just figured I'd ask," Sirius joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Harry flipped Sirius off and continued walking, feeling strangely better about the whole thing since he was reminded that Sirius had his back.
Mist checked the next card as he followed the group. 'Immutable, you're incredibly resistant to abilities that would try to change you, anyone trying to change you without your consent has to wrestle control over you first. Abilities like rot or wither inducement, sickness inducement, biokinesis, etc. are automatically resisted.'
'That's a damned nice card,' Mist mused as he opened it and checked the next one. 'Ambidextrous, you're perfectly Ambidextrous, not a bad trait from a bronze card,' he mused as he used one of the gold cards he'd picked up for dealing with Voldemort or the cursed ring. 'Quantum Disentanglement, you are an anomaly, whenever you are bound or restrained you somehow find yourself untangled.'
'That is a damned nice trait,' he thought as he opened the card and checked the next card. 'Expert Blacksmithing, you're intimately familiar with building all kinds of melee weapons and the weapons you create are of supernatural quality, you could forge an iron sword that can cut an iron block in half. You can also grant your weapons special traits depending on the materials you forge them out of.'
'Damn nice,' Mist mused as he opened the card and checked the next card. 'Shadow Eyes: this ability allows you to conjure small eye-shaped shadow familiars that can act autonomously and observe targets, they possess no combat ability but have potent hiding abilities. They can also relay the information they observe to their conjurer. Would those count as monsters for the book? I'll have to check.'
Mist opened the card and looked at the last card. 'Kitsune: Race Change: You're a single-tailed Kitsune, a Fox Yokai, a semi-spiritual being who is attuned to nature and illusions. As a Kitsune, your humanoid form is naturally incredibly attractive, and you possess slightly increased physical stats and increased energy reserves. You can naturally weave and use [Foxfire] and all Stranger abilities and illusion spells you use are more potent. This also extends to nature-based abilities you have. You can also shift between your fox and humanoid form at will, and even hide your fox features using illusions. As you age or your energy reserves increase, you naturally gain more tails, reaching up to nine in number, each tail slightly enhancing the aforementioned capabilities.'
"Yeah, I'm not using that," he muttered as he dropped the card in his inventory.
"Not using what?" Luna asked.
"A card that turns a person into a Kitsune, I'll probably hand it to someone that wants to play with illusions," Mist replied absently as he glanced around the small town.
"And you know that without opening the card?" Luna asked with a grin.
Mist sighed as he realized that he'd accidentally admitted to knowing things he shouldn't. "Yeah, one of my abilities lets me see through foil, so I can sort of cheat by checking the cards before I open them so I can give them to other people."
"Just foil?" Sirius asked with a touch of amusement.
Mist shook his head. "I plead the fifth."
"You're not in America," Hermione pointed out.
"I was born there, it counts," Mist argued. "But yeah, I can see through just about anything, do you want glasses that let you see through walls?"
"Yes," Luna said cheerfully.
"Wouldn't hurt, it would make avoiding Filch a lot easier…" Harry trailed off as he realized that he'd probably never actually have to deal with Filch again if he didn't go back for more than tests, something that actually made him happier than he would have thought. "I just realized that we don't have to deal with any of the shite from Hogwarts anymore."
"No library, either," Hermione complained.
"I can probably fix that part," Mist offered.
"How?" Hermione asked as she turned and stared at Mist intently.
"One of my abilities lets me take people into and out of a mirror world using a mirror, that should give us access to a copy of all of the books," Mist replied with a grin.
"Wouldn't all of the books be reversed?" Harry asked.
"I'm pretty sure we could enchant glasses to fix that," Mist argued.
Hermione shook her head. "Are you seriously trying to distract me from the fact that one of your powers lets you see through clothes with books?"
"Yes, is it working?" Mist asked with amusement.
'Unfortunately,' Hermione thought. "That depends, can we loot the mirror version of Olivander's shop and the bookshop in Diagon Alley?"
Mist sighed. "That sounds like a bit of work."
"You can look whenever you want," Hermione offered.
"We're going to need a lot of expanded bags," Mist said thoughtfully, feeling a lot better about sneaking peeks now that he had permission. "We'll loot everything after we finish with the graveyard."
"We should swing by the mirror version of Gringotts as well," Harry suggested.
"All the serial numbers would be backwards," Sirius pointed out.
"It's still, gold, right?" Harry asked.
"It's gold but there's a charm on the coins that alerts the goblins if you try to melt them or transfigure them so we'll probably want to wait until we get to the other world before we melt everything down," Sirius told them.
"Easy enough," Harry agreed as they reached the graveyard. "Do you know where they're buried?"
"No but I know where your grandparents are buried, we'll start there," Sirius told him.
'This better work,' Mist mused as he followed them into the graveyard, making a mental note to never tell Harry about his power if his parents refused to come back.
