Comic #967: Add-off (Patreon)

I am super reliant on addons in the game, so I knew that after last week's comic I wanted to poke fun at that a bit.

The idea for this comic came from me trying to imagine the natural consequence of add-ons breaking for my comic characters. First thing to happen would probably be the raid collapsing. I pictured Keydar screaming in terror as he struggles to figure out his rotation. I then thought of a player being fine without addons, bragging about them being a crutch, and then promptly dying.

I worried a bit that it would be too obvious that Narya was lying on the floor in panel 3 and 4. I decided to blur the background a bit and push in on his face, hoping the speech bubbles and his body would block out the floor and help with the reveal. Hopefully people don't see it coming.

It was a bit risky for me to have Narya say he's been add-on free for 20 years, as I couldn't remember whether or not I'd ever depicted him with add-ons in any of the comics. I racked my brain but nothing jumped out at me. I originally considered using Keydar instead of Narya for this one, but Keydar has definitely used addons in the past. I decided to change the dialogue to have him specifically say "addons for raiding" because I figure I had a better shot and not retconning my own comic that way.
