Comic #999: Reality Bites: Part Eight (Patreon)

I was a little worried that the punchline wouldn't land here. The joke is that they spun past "normal" fantasy and went too fantastic into the realm of Donald & Narya out DPS everyone. I considered spelling it out more in Krom's final dialogue, something like, "You spun it too far into fantasy", but I felt it lessened the joke. One of the changes I made to help this was add Narya's dialogue in panel 3. That way you have two mentions of entering fantasy throughout the comic hopefully making the punchline make sense.

But who knows, maybe I was overthinking it and everyone got the joke. It's hard to tell sometimes, especially when you're the one making it. You lose all sense of objectivity.

I went back and forth on who to put at the top of the meters, Narya or Donald. Ultimately, I decided that since #993 had Narya below Donald, Narya had to be on top here. It helps sell the callback better too. Also, who knows, maybe Donald would be on top if he spun it just a little further.

Next week is the end of the arc. I am not going to linger in hyper-fantasy land and extend the arc, though I was tempted. I like the idea that he just spun it a smidge too far and just has to correct slightly.
