I know some of you have been dreading this announcement for a while, especially with the millennial issue approaching, but this Sunday's comic (#1000) is going to be the last Dark Legacy Comics. At least for a while. I will still be keeping to my Dark Legacy Comics Patreon posting schedule here as usual (see more details below).

One thousand comics. Holy moly. I’ve been drawing this comic by myself, almost every Sunday, for 20 years. That’s a loooong time. Some of you weren’t alive when I started. That’s weird to think about. I made a similar joke nearly 500 comics ago, so you can only imagine how I feel now.

I still enjoy making the comic and I love the community, which is what drove me to keep drawing, but I think it’s time I focused on drawing more for myself, and my own passions.

I’m not going to stop making weekly comics, I just want to spend that energy on something new that’s fully mine, and not tied to another IP. It will still be my sense of humor, it will still be silly, weird at times, but rather than weekly standalone comics, it will be an original serialized story, told weekly.

I realized in the process of making this final arc that I wanted to stop. Not because I wasn't enjoying making the comic, but because doing the arc was the most fun I had drawing in a while. I want to tell a long crazy story and not have to worry so much about making everything a standalone joke of the week.

Keller & Funk is a comic idea I’ve had cooking for a while now, it’s something I’ve been reading to my kids at bedtime as I’ve worked on it. I’d like to focus on that for a while. I will be pivoting to posting that comic every Sunday, at least for the time being. If you're interested in this new comic and my process of making it, I do have a separate Keller and Funk Patreon. Like with Dark Legacy Comics, I will be posting weekly commentary there, and Patrons will see new comics a week early.

I am not against also posting my Keller and Funk commentaries here on the DLC patreon, I just don't want to inundate my Patrons with non DLC themed stuff if they don't want it. However, if you do want to see Keller and Funk commentaries, please let me know below in the comments. If enough Patrons want it, I am willing to post them here as well in a separate collection. It would be included in your existing membership. I definitely don't want to make you pay me twice.

I will however continue posting Dark Legacy content on Patreon. This will include the following:

Commentary on old comics (Throwbacks) every Wednesday.

Bonus panels on old comics every Friday.

On Sundays, since I won’t have new comics to make commentary for, I will be adding an additional weekly throwback commentary

Bonus panels on Sundays, but since I won't have new comics to make Bonus Panels for, I will do a bonus panel from the top down, starting from first bonus panel I ever made (#903) and working backwards.

I’m also not completely closing the book on DLC. I may still decide to add comics if an idea strikes me down the line. We’ll see. I'm also open to any other DLC themed patreon ideas if you all have any.

Stay tuned, I love you all! Thank you all for being Patrons and supporting me, some of you for YEARS. I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your hard work over the years, Keydar! I remember stumbling upon DLC sometime during the old Cataclysm era. Can't remember how though, huh. I've been catching up on your comic every couple months since, sometimes even every sunday for weeks in a row, hehe! But I can say with confidence that your webcomic always was the only webcomic I found myself naturally gravitating toward, not feeling forced to catch up to the latest issue out of obligation, but genuinely looking forward to the next issue! Something about your storytelling, delivery, structure and, at times, a little forced landings made the comic feel authentic and heartfelt. Think like those innocent slapstick shenanigans seen in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, having a cast of characters that were engaging to follow! But yeah. Thanks for your hard work over the years, and it's an honour to be here, witnessing your crossroads moment! <3 (P.S. - Issue #103: Neglected has always been my favourite! I was a big orc enthusiast back then, and the punchline was so fitting for the writers' treatment of Rend, lol.)

I still have the clone grenade shirt in my collection, although I don't really wear it anymore due to putting on a few pounds! Thanks for all the great comics, Keydar!

DarkLegacyComics

Thank you! I love #103 as well. Poor Rend. I should have brought him back.

DarkLegacyComics

Oh man, that's amazing! Mine fell apart ages ago. Thanks for your support!

Ooooh, I am EXCITED — totally new stuff from the brain of Keydar! As a longtime follower, former rogue community person, and proud owner of a clones mug I still use regularly, this post makes me so happy. You’re following your passions and allowing yourself to evolve, which is glorious. DLC was, and is, a wonderful and joyful series — but you deserve to have more paths to walk. Here’s to fun new things. 😊

Oh, is this why you had Miji kill 'you' off a few panels ago? Sad to see it end but It has been 2 decades now... Christ I've been reading you since either late Vanilla or early BC. I actually can't remember. Hope inspiration for more of it comes back to you eventually. until then.

Enjoy seeing all you’re working on. Been reading your comics since vanilla, fondly in the bookmark folder of all my 2000s webcomics. The friends I played WoW with in high school would read each update and refer to DL jokes as part of our group humor. Happy 1000th!!!!

DarkLegacyComics

LOL no, Miji killing me was not related to me quitting the comic at all, but that is a hilarious connection and I might lie in the future and say it was intentional. 😂

Hebu The Lone Wolf

daum. congrats! cant remember how long i have watched ur comic but it has been well over a decade :D

Thank you for 1000 moments of happiness, when I got to read a new DLC. I never played WOW, but still enjoyed your comics very much. I also love that I had to think a moment to get the puchline at times. (Also answering the question: What kind of mechanic could prompt this?) I will take look at the new comic, and see if it also manages to get my interest like DLC. But I loved the "Star Trek Format" of DLC: Encapsulated stories which can stand on their own with a few threads of continuity woven between them. Support of mine will continue for a while and then I will see. From my side: No i do not want Keller and Funk commentary in my Inbox. Should I like it, I will rather switch my support to its Patreon. I don't care about the "Patreon for X years" badge.

Oh, wow. I'll get a bit sappy now. =) I've been reading regularly for... 19 years now? From back when you were first getting featured in WoW.com/WoW Insider's comic column. To add to your feeling of age - I started when I was ~12-13. I am now married with 2 children. Heck, I've seen you go on 2 hiatuses for your 2 newborn as well... There have been many many changes in my life over those years, but the one thing consistent has been checking for a new issue of DLC on Monday morning (Europe time), even though I, myself, stopped playing more than 15 years ago. I remember when you settled into your style, the site update, the Patreon opening. You've become a part of my weekly schedule that will be more missed than you think. Thank you kindly, for the time you spent and the laughs you provided. I hope to see more of DLC at some point in the future, but who knows - maybe I'll get to write another such post for some other work of yours (K&F or otherwise) in 20 years. =) Cheers, best of luck, and see you around!

What a long strange trip its been. Joke aside, thank you very much for sharing with us your vision and humor all these years, I've been reading since sometime during BC and have enjoyed it all these years. I am glad you are able to also persue other avenues that call to you, and to what was asked in the post I would also be happy for updates on the new comic here as well for me personally anyhow, but I have already bookmarked the new one to read.

DarkLegacyComics

Good to know, thanks for the feedback, and thanks for your support!

DarkLegacyComics

That's amazing, yeah I feel the same way, it's been a constant for a loooong time. Thank you so much.

Neraced

Thank you for all those years of weekly laughs! Also: Your comics were a great way for a retired WoW player like myself to (sort of) keep up with the shenanigans that were being added to the game. So, again: thank you!

RandomDonator

I vividly remember the first DarkLegacyComic I read, it was the one with the rat's epic adventure/life, then ends up getting shot for a weapon skill up I've only really ever kept up with two comics, and this was one of them, thank you for all the entertainment, I really look forward to seeing what you do next!

Trevor

Thanks for the years of comics! I've never actually played wow, only getting the jokes because I'd watched my dad play, but your comics still usually got a laugh out of me regardless. At least I now know of your new comic and can look forward to that!

Spelter

Thank you for all the years, I can't believe we are at the end. I found your comic when I was playing WoW and even after playing it. But, now I feel old, because you said 2006 is 20 years ago, that cant be, it's maybe 10 or so :(
