Comic #740: Guardian Angel (Patreon)

For those who are not up to current game events, the Kyrian are a faction of beings within the shadowlands that ferry the souls of the dead to the afterlife. They look very similar to spirit healers, which are responsible for bringing heroes back to life when we die. I wanted to create my own funny retcon for why we get to resurrect so freely while NPCs die permanently. Namely, we are so incompetent that it's not worth the Kyrian's time.

I made sure to pick a Kyrian with a really fancy hat to draw because I wanted to make sure the silhouettes in the following panels were easily identifiable. The Kyrian on the left in the second panel has already appeared in #733, however I was not happy with how I drew her in that comic. She looked really featureless and bland, so I tried again. When you are making artwork, it's really hard to be objective because you are too involved in the process, but after some time has passed you can look back and see the flaws much more clearly.

I very clearly pictured the final three panels in my head when I was coming up with this idea. It's very different from what I normally draw. The whole PoV over the shoulder from a distance thing was very different from what I usually draw. Something about being able to see the entire scene from start to finish, almost like a wide shot of a film with no cuts, was funny to me.
