Comic #796: Friends (Patreon)

Most of the "last online" values in the guild window of panel 2 are the period since that character last appeared in the comic. 3 of the guild names in that window are just the names of in-game friends. I did something similar in comic #634 for the "last online" values in the friends list.

I used a similar pose in the final panel as I did way back in comic #446. There's something that looks extra depraved about me sitting that way in my underwear. I do actually sit that way sometimes, but with more clothing on.

I had an even more meta version of this comic that I almost did, but I'm not going to say what it was, as it's the front-runner idea for next week's comic. You'll know I used this idea if the first two panels of next week's comic look almost exactly the same, but with a different character (maybe Nyte, we'll see).

A lot of the humor here depends on how well I executed the final panel. So I spent most of my drawing time on it.

I had a version where he was just sitting there in cheeto dust saying, "Oh, right". I felt the joke that he had no friends wasn't obvious enough, so I kept thinking.

I had another version where he was reading a book with a title like "How to make friends". I felt the Google search was funnier, and also allowed me to make extra jokes in the search results.

I actually created that image myself in Photoshop using the correct fonts and drawing the icons. I could have edited a real google search I suppose, but I wanted more control over the layout so I could ensure it was legible when I shrunk it into the monitor.
