Comic #805: Let Them Eat Cake (Patreon)

This comic had the potential to be way too expositive, so I had to keep cutting it down to the minimum. For example, I originally had Gigz explain that Narya had to earn her reputation with kitchen chores, but decided that a simple Reputation window for Gigz would do the same job visually.

This comic is kind of a spiritual successor to #786. I really liked the format of that comic, where I took a controversial game design and created a story for it in the world.

This idea spawned after the news of secondary legendaries being locked behind reputation was revealed. I knew I wanted to make a comic that poked fun at time-gating, but I also wanted to be careful not to come across as too angsty about it, which is why panel 5 exists. I wanted to add some nuance and make it clear that Narya enjoyed the process.

Gaming critiques can be controversial sometimes, because players enjoy the game in different ways, and sometimes readers interpret my comics as criticizing their method of enjoyment, which is not my goal.

I also was originally going to have the food in this comic be cookies, but I changed it to cake purely for the title.
