I'm in my 60's and I concur. Western is different than country music. If it sounds like it could be in a movie about gunfighters or cowboy culture from the Westen US, it's western music.

Could it possibly be you've lost that loving feeling by Evis Presley ? Either way l await your new song and are never at a loss as to how happy your music makes me. I personally am looking forward to it almost as much as the time change on the 9th. ( Might not mean much in FL, However to those of us up North an extra hour of sunlight is a really good thing. ) I'm sure our friends in Canada and Alaska feel the same way.

That's a good description! I grew up with parents who were square dance teachers. Dad couldn't carry a tune but he could call dances all night. We had reel-to-reels and good, portable stereo equipment and a huge collection of country and western music. Country music tends to have lyrics about the struggles of poor, rural people in the south, especially the southeast. Often includes a fiddle. The old joke is that if you play country music backwards, you get your truck back, your dog back, job/girlfriend/wife back, etc. Also known as Cowboy music, Western music tends to have lyrics set in the desert southwest of Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, and the American West as a frontier. Often includes slide guitar and/or steel guitar. "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins (and Geoff) is a great example of a Western song.

If I had all of that to play with I would never leave my chair. For some reason I don't know, I think I might enjoy the firewood piano. Maybe it's all my years of collecting, cutting stacking, burning firewood for warmth in the mountains and my love of pianos. Who knows? I am sure this is going to be amazing.

That song always makes me cry. My mom was born and raised in the UP. My dad met her while in college there. My oldest and youngest siblings were born there. I lived there for 2 1/2 years and still have relatives up there. Lake Superior is something you have to experience to understand.

I've been up there many many times. I'm originally from New York though I ended up settling in Florida. But it is definitely definitely a different world up there. And that song holds a lot of memories for me as well. Gordon Lightfoot had a way with words. And the tone of the song Fits the area perfectly. My father and my grandfather and my grandmother used to love that song. It's meant so many things to a lot of my family. I'm at the lady of my life while seeing that song Sitting on a bench in Central Park once. She sat down next to me and started singing with me. Turns out meant a lot to her family too.
