The Little Mermaid | Hans Christian Andersen | PREVIEW (Patreon)
Content
Well... let this be a lesson to all of us: "Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it". Or in my case, "Be careful what you poll for, because you might end up growing a fishes tail".
This reading turned out a bit longer than I thought it would (um...a bit MUCH longer), and I'd be lying if I didn't roll my eyes a touch when "The Little Mermaid" won the patron poll last week, but that's only because i THOUGHT i knew the story when i really didn't. Let me tell you, I am now, officially, the world's foremost expert on Mermaids, Mermen, Grand-mer-thers, merchandise, and mercury.
I'm merciless.
I drive a mercedes.
Would you like some merengue?
Mer.
In all seriousness, I found myself really enjoying this story and the process of getting it into the can. I may have even gotten a little misty eyed during the last few pages, but that could have also been because I was tweezing my nose hairs at the same time. Don't get old, kids.
If you only know this story from the Disney version, then you owe it to yourself to give Hans Christian Andersen his due and read (or listen, wink wink nudge nudge) to the tale as it was meant to be told. It's darker and more beautiful than I had imagined it would be, even though so many of you had told me so. My apologies that it's not in the original Danish. Maybe next time🙂
Thank you for opening my eyes to such a wonderful story, and thank you for everything,
-g
PS: I've done my very best to edit and listen for errors, but if you happen to find anything that jumps out as you as needing to be corrected, please let me know in the comments along with a timestamp and I'll get the 'ol fixer out as fast as i can. Thanks!
