Is there ever a more creepy author/poet for this time of year than Edgar Allan Poe? If there is... there's certainly none more prolific.

This poem is gorgeous, haunting, and more than a little heart breaking if you're at all familiar with Poe's life. The man had known more than his share of loss.

So, without any further adieu, find a quiet place, close your eyes, and listen to the sound of the sea, and with it, a layman fumbling his way through a reading of Poe. (That would be me).

I hope you enjoy, Annabel Lee.

Thank you! Another quite sad/a bit spooky one is by Christine Rossetti entitled "When I am Dead, My Dearest"

Another great narration Geoff. Ive never been one to read much Edgar Allan Poe as I never seemed to be able to appreciate. But your narration adds an entirely new dimension that helps me actually understand and follow it better.

Angie Woollard

Wow - so sad and haunting. 🥺 I could really feel Poe’s grief in your retelling.

Amanda W

So peaceful, yet so sad. 😔

Alisha Watson

I had not heard of this Poe poem before. It's a somber, but beautifully written tale. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Gretchen G

Lovely. Haunting. Your reading conveys the terrible sadness of the poem. And having the waves continue for a little while after the poem ends is really nice. Gives us a few moments to reflect on the emotions the narration evokes. I think I first encountered this poem after reading Lolita, which references it. So that adds a certain layer of creepiness. P.S. Geoff, I recently switched to my Halloween ringtone, which is your laugh from the Headless Horseman. So I was sitting here typing this on my phone, with my earbuds still in and the volume turned up from listening to the narration, and my phone rang. Scared the living daylights out of me! 🎃😅

Another great narration ❤️❤️❤️

Ahhh...Annabel Lee. The sweetly sad last poem composed by Mr. Poe. Beautifully read, Geoff. You really conveyed the sadness in this one. 💕

Tara Congo

Oh, I've loved this one since I picked up a book of Poe's poetry in high school. Such a sad, beautiful poem. Thanks for doing this, Geoff!

Ruth Feiertag

Your poetry readings remind us of not merely the beauty of individual poems but of the power and importance of poetry in our lives. Thank you.

D McKim

Thank you for continuing to do the narrations, I have always loved Poe. It is a wonderful gift for the season.

Hunter

Wait…it’s over…? But it just started like…five, ten, twenty…oh shoot…looks like I fell asleep...oops. 😴But from what consciousness, I did have, never heard it before and your raspy delivery of it makes it so much pleasant to the ear. Thank you again for calming a frazzled mind once again.

Alex Walker

Sad and beautiful poem! Interesting, Poe writes about how he would lie by her tomb, just a little while before dyeing himself.

Maggie S

Beautiful narration, Geoff. Thank you!

Suzy Bailey

Be it a sense of horror, sadness or passion, Poe's words always have beauty which is only enhanced by your wonderful voice. A sad and haunting narration, thank you so much for this Geoff!😔💕

Allison Landis

This is one of my favorite poems and I was hoping and praying that you would narrate this one! So excited! Thank you so much for recording this.

Judy Wilde

I’ve been using that ringtone too. It surprises me every time anyone calls!

Debbie Hudson

As a published poet myself Geoff....I would love for you to read one of mine someday! You have many talents...and this one is rare. Not many can narrate and keep one's attention! Thank you for all the hard work you do....for your patrons and all your viewers! May you and your family stay safe and well!❤📖🤗

Judy Wilde

I haven’t read any Poe since elementary school (where I went on a binge and read everything of his I could get my hands on). But I love listening to your Poe readings. Thank you.

Beautiful narration Geoff! This is one of my favorite Poe poems, and your voice makes it all the more sorrowful 💗

ObscureReferenceWoman

One of my favorite poems, and my new favorite recording of it. Thank you for this!

Geoff, you are a true gift to insomniacs. Nothing can lull me to sleep better than your soothing voice. I may never reach the end of your stories, but falling asleep is a true gift!

Caitlin Binedell

So beautifully read. Such a chilling poem. Love it. ❤

Amanda Hovendon

That was hauntingly beautiful❤️❤️❤️

Eastana(4 Kraken)

your beautiful voice wraps around Poe's words but I feel your focus was on the creep factor rather than the music of his poetry. Good try.

Hunter

Fellow insomniac here. Fell asleep before it ended. High Five!

Nellie Daugherty

Sometimes I feel high romance exists only in literature. And yet. When my sons were little, I read this to them ten different ways. The older I get, the more I appreciate Poe's work. Thank you, Geoff. A kind and gentle offering.

Liz Munro

I absolutely LOVE the gentle waves noises in this and the way Geoff’s voice sounds like a robin bird’s song

Jacklinka

Geoff, can you please take any well known children poem and read with your spooky voice?

Judy Wilde

I could suggest Witch Cat by Rowena Bennett. Short, but perfect for Halloween and one of my all time favorites since I was little. Possibly paired with her Second Hand Shop.

Jacklinka

Basically it doesn't have to be scary in the original. Even quite the opposite, Geoff might take a non-scary children's poem and remaster it into a horror one. It would be wonderful.
