HEY YA'LL! Check out the video above for a brief update...

And then peep the new narrations below. It's been a long while since I've done any  spoken word type things and I truly forgot how much I enjoyed it. I hope you like the 2 I stories that I picked out, and that neither of them give you the night squeezies or bedtime cabbage. There's nothing worse than bedtime cabbage.

THE PAINTED DOOR (Sinclair Ross): https://youtu.be/bduaqy5hfvA

THE HAUNTED MIND (Nathaniel Hawthorne): https://youtu.be/WeEeVQ59V0A

Once again, Thank you for everything and I'll be seeing you soon. ENJOY!

Eileen Parkman

LOL Distracted by a squirrel! I'm really looking forward to the narrations. Thanks for giving us some lovely haunted things to listen to tonight. <3

Anne

Hahahahahahaha! “The painted…. SQUIRREL!” That made me guffaw.

Jordi S

Loved the SQUIRREL! right in the middle of what you were saying 🤣🤣 Thank you for the narrations!

Debbie Goodling

Thank you so much for all you do for us!

Raven Winters

Yay!! I absolutely love your narrations. Your voice reading is the ONLY thing that can get me to sleep when I'm having trouble. Can't wait for more. :)

Gretchen G

"The Painted Squirrel," huh? Never heard of that story. Sounds fascinating. 😂

Ruth Barkey

I absolutely love the narrations. I was listening to "The Landlady" on my break at work and was overheard shouting " Don't go in the house!!"

Sophie Plourde

Thanks for the update! I'm excited to hear these stories😁

Trisha

I do love the spoken word! Congrats on Ghost Riders 👻

Randiskye

ADHD at work! Lol

Huldra Draco

Just finished The Haunted Mind.... wow.... So relaxing, so comforting, and so fascinating. A perfect bedtime story. Thank you, Geoff, I truly enjoyed that. You are a really talented narrator!! ♥️♥️♥️

Nerdy Wordy Princess

Obviously I haven't gotten a chance to listen to them yet, as you just posted this but I'm looking forward to it. I wouldn't worry about how they're going to be received! You have the Midas tone. Anything you read or say is going to be golden. :-)

Anne

It perfectly described all of my meetings today.

Ann Durham

Perfect timing! I just started a big weaving project and sometimes listen to audiobooks while I toss the shuttle. Now I can listen to these instead.

Åse M Bruun Lagnestål

Thank you! Now mom and I have a little story time waiting on Wednesday. 🥰

Sarah Reach

I am soo excited to dig into these stories! Thank you so much for doing them!

Carly Smith

Ah yes, the perfect things to listen to while walking through some scare zones in Halloween Horror Nights. 😂

Angie Woollard

Thank you so much, Geoff! I look forward to hunkerin’ down with these narrations! I’m not one to fall asleep to a story because I want to stay awake and hear what happens next. Happy Halloween to you and yours - hope y’all enjoy the PattyCake party! Looks spooooooky - just warning you now…👻

Maggie S

Thank you for 2 new narrations! "The Haunted Mind" is a wonderful sleep story; your voice, so soothing. Now starting "The Painted Door" Finished "The Painted Door". So haunting. Loved it.

Shirley B Karr

My husband walked by and wanted to know why I was laughing so hard with headphones on. All I could get out was SQUIRREL! I have ADD, as does my hubby and son, so I totally relate. We have one like that. Taunts our dog. Runs back and forth along the fence while the dog goes bonkers, barking and chasing, when the squirrel could easily disappear up one of the trees. Thank you for the stories! Can't wait to listen. And congratulations on the resounding success of Ghost Riders. It's well deserved.

Diana and Doris Donnell

Thank you. Could never fall asleep listening to you. Awsome that Ghost Riders got that high... But still would like the mug, but live in Denmark..... ugh.

Sue Armstrong

My cat has been keeping track of squirrels today, too. They're very distracting. 😁 Looking forward to listening to the narrations!

Hunter

Just listened to "The Haunted Mind" And oof! "The Painted Door will have to wait till tomorrow. I be sleepy... But a HUGE YIPPIE-YI-YAY for GRITS! You worked so hard, nah, nah, WE worked hard on it. Together. Go team! Congratulations once again! And thank you for these!

Jacky Friedman

Congrats on hitting 1m on Ghost Riders In The Sky. It is an awesome video. Everyone loves it. From reactors to watchers such as myself. I've never cared for that song until you sang it. It's pretty much all of yours and Voiceplay songs. I only like y'all's versions. Second. I don't personally listen to your narrations but I know that alot of people do. You have an awesome voice. I do however direct people to your narrations when they mention you should be narrating. I tell them "Ahh but he does. Check out (names of books) on his channel." I love your voice whether talking or singing. And no matter what you sing. It's beautiful. I'm also excited for December "surprise" guest. It'll be great having all of you back together again. Even for one video. Earlier in chat Layne and Tony gave us a walk through on the party setup. Played some of the decorations. It is so freaking awesome. Y'all are going to love it. Also their going to make a video of everyone in costume after the party is in full swing. I'm so excited for that as well. Anyway. You and Kathy and everyone have fun tomorrow (Saturday) night. Hope the kids have fun at sunday's party. Love ya❤️😘

Jacky Friedman

With Geoff reading it it will be. Does sound interesting though. Cute children's story.

Kimberly Friend

I'm going to have to listen to these tomorrow. I won't be able to listen to these properly tonight as I'm still coming off anesthesia from my surgery this morning. (Thankfully all went well) But I can't wait to listen to them! I absolutely LOVE when you do narrations.

Jacky Friedman

Besides used to having a pet skunk in the past I also raised a baby squirrel for a year before he decided it was time to go back to the wild. We had a screen porch we let him run around in a couple times a day. We'd let our dog in as well. The two would play for hours together. After he left we had an oak tree in our front yard. Whenever anyone was under it he'd throw acorns on our heads to get our attention. When we looked up and said "Hi Squeaky" he'd chirp back and run away. Miss all the animals I used to have. But miss Squeaky and my skunk Buddy the most. 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️

Tara Congo

Congrats on a million views, and so quickly!! 🎉 Very well deserved. I've only had a chance to listen the The Haunted Mind so far, and I have to admit that I'm going to have to listen to it a couple of times over at least to actually hear the words - it was so meditative that I legitimately got lost in the overall "noise" and couldn't follow the story. So mission accomplished with that one, I'd say 😅 Definitely going to become my new go-to when I need to chill out. You're *really* good at this, Geoff.

Jordi S

I really enjoyed both of those ❤️ Thank you for taking the time to read them for us.

Shannon D

Congratulations on Ghost Rider's success! It's well deserved. I haven't had a chance to listen to the narrations yet, but I'm looking forward to it, I always enjoy your narrations. It's nice to have some good sleep stories, so I'm glad at least one of these might fit the bill. Thank you!

Gretchen G

One tiny issue I noticed: In "The Painted Door" at 59:35 it cuts off really abruptly at the word "amends." Just kinda distracting. Thank you so much for these narrations! I always love listening to you read. And it's wonderful that you're bringing attention to these great old stories. 💙 I really like "The Haunted Mind." Hadn't read that one before, so thank you for introducing me to it! Is the reading of the names at the end a new thing? Congratulations on GRITS!!! It's awesome; you're awesome; much awesomeness all around!

Gretchen G

Also, Geoff, please explain: What the heck is "bedtime cabbage"? Because it sounds horrifying. 😅

Katherine Powell

I'm not surprised to hear of your success with GRITS. You did a great job as per usual. And a big thank you for these narrations. I'm excited to listen to them.

Tal and Bard Lampner

I was hoping you'd narrate some Hawthorne this year! "Young Goodman Brown" and "Rappaccini's Daughter" are two of my favorite macabre/gothic/spooky stories to read in the fall. I'm looking forward to listening to The Painted Door as I've never read anything by Sinclair Ross. Thank you for making more narrations, Geoff! And big congrats on Ghost Riders hitting 1 million! -Tal

Rosie Boughen

“the first one is called The Painted- SQUIRREL!!!!” 😂 Thanks for the updates. I’ll be listening to the narrations while I’m at my craft desk this weekend. (I’m not planning on falling asleep, I wanna actually hear them!) And congrats on 1M!!! At lease 100 of them are me, lol! It’s a multiple-times-per-day song for me!

Angie Woollard

Just listened to “The Haunted Mind.” I’m not one to listen to spoken word while I drift off to sleep, so I listened intently. You read with such amazing inflection - you painted a vivid and elaborate picture in my mind’s eye that was so interesting and captivating. Your voice is so soothing yet captures my attention and keeps me completely rapt, hanging off your every word, wondering what will happen next. I will listen to “The Painted Door” when I have time to give it my full attention, and will report back. 🙂

Amanda W

These are wonderful. Thank you.

Veronika Troll

It's always so great to wake up and have a new Patreon notification. Thank you for the update, I am really looking forward to listening to these stories:))

Tara Congo

Just listened to The Painted Door. Wow! I made an audible noise at that ending. Not a very happy tale, that one. I will echo Gretchen's comment about the abrupt cut-off at 59:35 as it was a bit jarring. Otherwise, wonderful all around. Love the sound effects throughout that add to the atmosphere in such a great way without being distracting. Another beautifully read story. Thank you!

Veronica Thunander

Thank you for the update! I’m looking very much forward to to your version of Sound of Silence! I listened to and enjoyed The Haunted Mind, but I did doze off now and then, so mission accomplished there! I will listen more attentively to both later. Thank you for everything and I’m so happy that GRITS reached a million so soon, congratulations!

Tine

Congratulations on your fastest 1 M views for Ghost Riders in the Sky! Now we have a new record to break😉 Thank you for the updates regarding the tiers. I am very curious for what is to come, but thank you for alleviating some of my concern I expressed. I am so glad to read how much you enjoy narrations! I will need to give them due time and attention, but I am certain they will be spell-binding and mind-boggling. I do like as well that you choose stories with a twist! Thank you, Geoff. Happy Halloween! P.s. a squirrel is always entertaining. That made me chuckle. I suspect you might find Mark Rober's backyard squirelympics entertaining as wel🤣

Melisendre

Congrats to youf 1 million for ghostriders and thank you for this update.

Michelle G

Congratulations on the 1m views for Ghost Riders! Thank you also for the update about the tiers. I look forward to listening to the narrations. Also really looking forward to hearing your version of Sound of Silence when you release it - thank you!

Suzy Bailey

It was about 1.30 am (UK time) when your post popped up and I just had to listen to the shorter 'The Haunted Mind'. Your voice is just too perfect for words! (YES, I realise how nonsensical that statement is considering it's a narration) I'll have to listen again to actually hear the story, as about half way through, I could no longer discern words, just the calming warmth and intonation of your voice! It still baffles me how you can sound creepy and soothing at the same time, I love it! You have a wonderful gift and I'm so happy you choose to share it with us! Huge congratulations on 1M views for GRitS, very well deserved and thanks for your comment on the tier shake up and alleviating a minor concern, here's hoping whatever you decide makes things easier for you and doesn't add to your burden!

Cat

Will we get them as mp3s too? I'd love to listen to them before bed, but would need to put them on my mp3 player (yes, I'm old-fashioned like that).

Allison Landis

I cannot pretend that I have not definitely been using a few of your narrations as sleep stories already! I'll be sure to add these to the list.

Allison Landis

I have a solution for you if there are otherwise unavailable as mp3s

Cat

Usually, he uploads mp3s a few days after the YouTube links. If he forgets, I'll get back to you.

Ashley Evers

I opened up Patreon specifically to pick a narration to fall asleep too, so this was a lovely surprise :) Of course, then I was too excited to listen to them to actually fall asleep until I had almost finished both. They are amazing as always, thank you!

Tracie Schlaak

Well deserved 1 million views to a one in a million person!!❤️

SunnyOutlook

Yes, congratulations! It’s been so much fun watching the number of views rise for GRITS. It’s soooo good! Looking forward to the narrations to drop. Great story choices! 🎃

Susan Zoe Bella

I'm so excited about Sound of Silence! Ever since I sang it in seventh grade course, I've loved that song!!! The lyrics, haunting melody, and feel of the song are timeless. Thank you for hearing your fans ❤️💜💙🧡💛🤍💚❤️

María Gabriela

Uuu the sound of silence!! Also, btw: Thank you for the narrations, I loved them!! Specially the haunted mind. Spooky! I have a new sound suggestion, if you may: Georgia on my mind?

Debs Badger

I have only listened to The Haunted Mind so far (I'm saving The Painted Door for Hallowe'en night 🎃). This is quite the macabre little story, eh? Excellent narration, you found just the right tone for it.

Miranda Rakers

If you would have just told us that you were basically reading Little House on the Frontier Love Triangle.....with a twist, we all would have immediately paused our lives to listen! There were a few moments I was sure that Stephen must have been taking his lines right from the first pioneer adult film, it was just a matter of time before he said he was there to fix the sink, or deliver a pizza. Phew! More drama than Caroline Ingalls gave us all those years! It was fantastic! Awesome choice Geoff!

Shirley B Karr

Listened to Haunted Mind last night. Your narration voice is very soothing, like aural Xanax. Well done! I imagine it’s a good voice for reading bedtime stories to William, too. A few weeks ago in a FB group a guy asked if we thought his baritone voice was too low for narrations. I said as long as you’re not forcing it and still have warm resonance, there’s no such thing as too low, and shared the link to your YT channel as proof. Everyone who responded agreed, and one gal commented after checking out your page that “he practically purrs!” So if you ever want to take a break from singing and arranging, you could probably get all the work you wanted as an audiobook narrator.

Karyn Morrison

Wow I am way behind in my posts. Hadn't seen the VP minis, and there are narrations...... NARRATIONS!!! If I had know, I would have jumped onto it, and listened to them multiple times by now

Elizabeth Chard

Happy Halloween Geoff! 🎃👻 Congrats on the 1M :) well deserved!

Cassandra Collins

yay! I'm hoping we'll get these as mp3s at some point - I have a whole playlist of your stuff on my phone that I fall asleep to (including the creepier ones, like The Landlady and Masque of the Red Death). If I ever met you in person I'd probably fall asleep on the spot.

Amanda Hovendon

When Geoff becomes Doug from UP. “SQUIRREL!” Sorry. I had too. That’s what it reminded me of 😂

Kenneth Finnegan

Geoff, I know Voiceplay will bring on a guest singer from time to time. Have you ever considered the girl from The Fairy Voice Mother channel? She is so knowledgeable in music theory and has an incredible singing voice. She analyses and reacts to many of your videos and she lives you guys. She’s a 23 year old from England and she is amazing to watch.

Teresa Carr

What you called a "ridiculous" song and blamed Kathy for - turned out to be a whirlwind hit for you! Of course GRITS is all yours now, in my mind (and ears)! Congrats on hitting 1M!!👻🐎🌫🐂😈 Listen to your smart wife there, Geoff and do MORE ridiculous songs!!😃💖🤣 Now, to listen to "The Haunted Mind" & "The Painted Door"! AND GRITS AGAIN!!💖💖💖

Ilona Dever

Geoff, both of these narrations were WONDERFUL! The Painted Door in particular, because of the storyline was so absorbing. Love your voice, talking, singing, humming, whistling - just anything!

Casi Pohlman

Can't wait for sound of... Squirrel!! What was I saying? I forgot but congratulations and thanks for the updates 😁🥰🤪

C Wyatt Johnson

Am I the only one looking forward to the narration of "The Painted Squirrel Just Outside My Window"? 😶‍🌫️

Amanda W

Is The Painted Door eventually going to be released publicly, or is it going to stay Patreon only?
