With the game having been released for over three years, and actually finished for a few months now (at the time of recording), we felt we could finally take a proper look at Cyberpunk 2077. Leon, Jay, Rich and Ryan head down to Night City's scuzzy streets for a full and frank appraisal of CDPR's expensive and expansive future-GTA. We also hear from the Cane and Rinse community and assess what ambitious DLC expansion Phantom Liberty brought to the party.Music featured in this issue:1. V by Marcin Przybyłowicz/P.T. Yeeeah! This'll be a good one! Looking forward to listening tonight. I want to replay this game when I get a decent TV for sure.

Aldarik

I am not gonna listen to this show soon, as this game represents all that is good but even more so what is wrong in modern game publishing, so that I don’t want to spend my time delving into this story (game and production). A game that just makes me sad thinking about it although I heard it is good now.

Alex79

What is it that makes you sad about the game? (Not trying to be funny here, genuinely interested).

Ben

Sad I missed the submission deadline for this game since like a few people I felt it is one of the best games of its kind (however you want to break down its genre) and I loved it from the start even when it was a buggy mess you had to learn to coax like an unpredictable animal so it wouldn’t snap at you and crash to the home screen. As an older fellow American I can hop in to say that you Brits were right about 80s ads here and even 90s ads could seem to be headed in the direction of the Robocop/Cyberpunk hypersexualized ads. Great conversation. I could have honestly listened to multiple episodes of you guys breaking down this amazing game. But did I hear right that none of you played the build I always have the most fun with: sword/knife/stealth/Sandevistan?

Aldarik

I have to say I have not played the game so my negative attitude concerning the game is directed to this game being a symbol of the greedy and inhumane gaming industry that takes advantage of its employees and promises way too much to its audience. Therefore this game and its disastrous release is all in all a symbol of the capitalist misuse of people, time and resources. Therefore I cannot help but recognise that this game just makes me very sad. Maybe a very person reaction.

Great show, enjoyed it! Thanks. Sorry, nothing more to add but great show!

I fell for the hype in the run up to Cyberpunk’s release but the multiple delays ahead of launch made me wary, so I resisted being there for day one and thank goodness I did. I eventually played it when the PS5 patch came out, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. However, the current state of the game cannot be allowed to gloss over the disgraceful way in which it got there. It should never have been launched when it was, and even though I enjoyed the PS5 version, it has been patched even further since in a way that adds even more elements to the game and revamps existing ones. So even though I played it over TWO YEARS after the original launch, I still haven’t played the ‘best’ version. Fingers well and truly burnt, I will never touch a future CDPR game anywhere near to launch as a result. There have been many games that are patched post-launch in a way that penalises the early adopters but this was the worst offender by a country mile. There might finally be a good product out there now, but it’s left an indelible stain on the company and the hopefully the wider industry has learned from it.

I'd really like to be able to talk to the board of directors of whoever made the decision to release this when they did and try to make them understand that releasing a game in such poor condition will loose them money. I played it day one but it was my son's copy so didn't pay for it myself. If it wasn't for all my issues and the 'T-Pose day one' (that would be my 3 word review) plus all the bad press, I would have laid down the cash for my own copy. Now, I appreciate it's is now the game I wanted back then, but that is then and this is now and my money is going elsewhere on titles I know are good and I want to play. Love you guys and thanks for the pod.

I love this game and thought you all did a great job highlighting its strengths. The city design, writing, and performances are all so memorable to me and I enjoyed your discussion of those aspects!

Aldarik

Completely agree.
