Whenever I see FIFA I always think of the video games still!

Alex79

When did you start releasing these every two weeks instead of every month!? 😲👀

Cane and Rinse

Erm. We haven't? The last one came out on June 11th.

Alex79

I know that really. It just feels like they come round quick.

The Tale Of One Bad Rat! I love that book. I remember getting it in the Birmingham WH Smiths along with the first Sandman book in 1996. The Sandman went on to become my favourite comic of all time and I even got a Death tattoo which is, uh, a bit problematic now I guess. But at least the art doesn't belong to Gaiman...

Last Christmas I finally joined the PS5 generation via a PS5 pro *with* a disc drive. I trust Steam will be around in 20 years. Epic and Gog might be as well. I do not put the same trust in the consoles' digital offering. Also, "console" is synonymous with physical media to me, even if I do own lots of digital titles as well. I also like having shelves of games I can peruse. Anyway, I now own a PS5 pro. What have I used it for so far? A few games of College Football `25 (the console is region free), playing all of Astro's Playroom, and.....starting and finishing Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, the rerelease of Fear Effect, and starting the rerelease of Fear Effect 2. I also played some Star Wars: Pod Racer with the kids, and they have played some It Takes Two. Aside from Astro's Playroom, all of this would have been possible on another platform =/ Why did I buy this again, and at such a high cost? Any PS5 game I've wanted - aside from College Football - has since come to PC and is similarly priced there. Serious question: would it actually make sense for a Chinese company to purchase or start a major console platform? For that to succeed, don't you need a large, fairly young population with time and disposable income (and not content with free-to-play phone games), and aren't most of the wealthy eastern Asian countries (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China) in an even worse demographic situation than most of Europe and North America? Not sure about cost-of-living over there, except I've heard it's fairly rough in South Korea as well.

Another great podcast guys! I’m also finding it difficult in these times, not to become discouraged by hobbies becoming increasingly more expensive whilst the quality or care for customer experience diminishes. I won’t go into too much detail here as it’s the wrong forum for this, but aside from gaming, this year I’ve given up my Celtic season ticket because it’s now £700 a year and the quality of the football, the stadium, the match-going experience and so on is becoming worse as years goes by. As Leon suggested, I’ll always love football and Celtic, but I cannot justify such money and not even enjoying myself. Now watching PlayStation and Xbox wilfully stick two fingers up at those customers and staff who’ve invested thousands (and more) into them just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Thanks for the link. It was interesting, although not surprising, how vastly differently the story and characters are understood and discussed in China vs the West. I found it amusing that the CCP was basically suggesting Chinese players buy the game to engage in digital tourism. It basically confirmed my feeling that consoles and one-time-fee games play only a tiny role (percentage-wise) in the local game market; I wonder how much that has changed since 2024, if at all. My gut feeling is that the West is moving (even) more towards free-to-play/gatcha gaming, whether console/PC or mobile. Perhaps there is a similar shift happening in East Asia in the other direction that I don't know about, but it feels unlikely?

In regards to the Spreadshirt shop, shipping is unavailable to americans. I have an old hoodie and hat from back when the shop was first opened, but they are pretty beat up and blown out, so I’m looking for a replacement. I know you can’t do much about it, that’s mostly down to the orange skid-mark running things over here. Anywho, the interest is there, so don’t get too down if you’re not selling anything. In a few years (hopefully) you will pocket the sweet sweet commission from one grey hat.

I kinda feel sorry for the current state the video games industry, especially for indie developers. I started collecting physical nintendo switch one games for my kids to play with maybe 15 years from now, modern classics like Celeste, Tunic, Bloodstained, etc. Collecting physical games started to become more of a panic attack and FOMO more then ever. It is like the end of the world if I miss the release window of Limited Run Games, Iam8bit and so on.

Serious question: do we (consumers) have to start buying physical copies of video games instead of digital ones so the gaming industry might change its mind about killing physical media?

Very interested in the starfox addendum!
