You guys mentioned ideas for people to be more enticed to raise there amount i have a few. Possibly not for this season as you guys already have the list of games for the rest of the year but maybe next season have a certain amount to pledge and they get to choose a game or game series. I mention this as it would really get me to pledge higher as i love your discussions on games whether you like them or not it is just awesome hearing multiple opinions on games i enjoy or dont enjoy at all. Example would be the “Shantae” series of games have a interesting history and i enjoy them all and believe them to be very high quality metroidvanias and would love to hear banter on them or a game in the series. Possible guest spots for higher amount as well. Some issues can occur with whether or not the guest would be the right type of person or not but another perspective out of the many would be nice. From a guest perspective since some people maybe dont play as many games as the cane and rinse crew and they would have interesting points on certain games. Maybe even a patron exclusive show and goes over gaming news from week to week or month to month. I understand that requires more time taken out of your busy days but it is a thought. I am someone who is subscribed to multiple gaming outlets in terms of news and just love hearing multiple views on a hot topic at hand. Excuse my bad grammar or possible spelling issues. Not my greatest subject. Much much better at talking.

Also maybe a set goal for certain things for guest. Would be awesome if next year you guys talked about God of War ( 2018 ) and somehow were able to get the game director ( Cory Barlog ) on the show to talk about certain parts of the game while you discussed this. Now i know this one is a very hard one to do with certain directors but would be cool to possibly try it.

Possible discord channel as well. I know you guys have another service similar but would be cool just to have

Listening to this reminded me of how I thought Josh and Jay were the same person for a while after I started listening to Cane and Rinse, haha. How come Jay is not in more episodes these days? PS: If you do start selling candies you can call them Cane and Mints. (That sounded better in my head 🤔)

Cane and Rinse

In fact Jay is old enough to be Josh's dad! Jay tends to play far fewer different games than the rest of us, but what he does play he really plays a lot. Also he often struggles going back to older titles, compared to the rest of the crew.

Sounds like he and I are more alike than me and Josh then, despite him being old enough to be my dad too! I tend to really get stuck in there for many hours and also don't play a huge variety of games. But this is why I like this podcast, I get to learn about all the amazing games I would never have discovered on my own, and sometimes it even motivates me to try them 🙂

Have you guys ever considered getting sponsors? Most of favourite podcasts, like WTF and Idle Thumbs, are sponsored by things like Squarespace or Sennheiser (with, in the case of IT, the option to get ad-free episodes as a Patreon reward). I mean, I'd understand if you hate the idea of poisoning your content with advertising, but it *is* a way to gather a few extra pennies... As far as the separate feeds are considered; I do keep both of them in my Podcast Addict app, if only so I can find older episodes every once in a while (the Patreon feed only goes back to when the Patreon started, which makes sense). In order not to get overwhelmed by notifications, I do feel like having them turned off for the regular C&R feed, which might have me miss a special here and there - then again, I get the heads up for those on Twitter anyway. Merchandise-wise, all I could really wish for is the 12" Leon.

Cane and Rinse

We discuss advertising and sponsorship all the time, but the reality is that it doesn't bring in a huge amount of money unless you are a massive show. We're not happy about compromising the listening experience with intrusive adverts or messages unless we can really justify it (i.e. if it's stuff that's relevant and/or the income would make a significant difference to the way we can afford to operate). We really want to give the community chance to fund us and while maintaining a superior listening experience. If even half of of our listeners contributed just the minimum $1 a month Leon and Jay would be able to treat Cane and Rinse as a full time concern - and that's the dream. Never say never as regards to advertising sponsorship, and we continue to have these conversations, but at the moment we'd prefer to avoid becoming a repository for adverts - or disingenuous 'live reads' - for webspace, mattresses, razors, pants or other largely irrelevant products! We are potentially open to 'selling out' our principles for the right price however... ;)

I can totally respect that, thanks for taking the time to clarify!

Cane and Rinse

This is a cool idea and one we have considered but we worry that in practice it would be unworkable. We’ll go into why on the next mini-cast and throw it back to you guys.

BlueWeaselBreath

I definitely removed the general Cane and Rinse feed after getting the Paterson subscriber one, so each show wouldn’t show up twice in my playlist. I didn’t realize I was missing the extra content this way, but kudos for being on top of it!

What would you guys think about a new tier for a monthly Q and A for example? Patreons can submit questions then once a month like a listener mail podcast is released or something answering them I would be happy to up my contribution for that :)
