In which we do our best to keep pace with Capcom's ever-expanding Biohazard series by reviewing its most recent instalment, the 2020 remake of 1999's Resident Evil 3. Leon, Jon, Josh, Leah and community correspondents pick up where they left off with the previous Volume's Resident Evil 2 (2019) podcast, getting into the nitty gritty of RE3's modest runtime, the loss of Jill's tube top and the addition of Carlos' special hair.Music featured in this issue:1. Back on the PSone I favored RE3 over RE2. The tension in the OG felt palpable thanks to the unending threat of the Nemesis. When the remakes came around I felt like RE2- remake nailed it in a way that the OG never did for me, so I couldn’t wait for 3. I’m not sure why exactly but I found the remake for 3 to be underwhelming. Just too many things missing from it (especially the choice system). So in the OG 3>2 in the remakes 2>3. Can’t have it all can we?

Listened to this while working on my Leon B campaign in the Resi2 remake - a very appropriate background podcast. It's not as expensive in the PS store as I thought, so I am tempted. I really like how the remake has designed Jill compared to how she used to look (I've never played the OG games so I don't have nostalgia goggles), although Leah's love for Carlos' hair has been noted! Thank you for a lovely podcast as always and for getting me curious about games I wouldn't have otherwise been interested in. I saw the "meh" reviews and it put me off, but listening to your thoughtful discussion sparked an interest.

This was a great resi 6 discussion! The discussion about that other game was alright too. I am one of those people who preferred the resi 3 remake to the resi 2 one. I just didn’t like Mr X in 2, he didn’t gel with how I wanted to play that game. Great pod!

Really enjoyed this episode, especially the Resident Evil 6 tangent. Josh calling it 'memorably incompetent' hit the nail on the head.

Great episode folks, thanks! I remember picking up the original Resi 3 on launch day after school back in the day and absolutely loving it. I got the remake on day one too and thoroughly enjoyed it. I read previews before it came out and understood that it was considerably shorter than the Resi 2 remake. But nevertheless it's a fantastic intepretation and looks absolutely stunning, even on the base PS4 I played it on. I agree that perhaps it should have been a little cheaper considering the length, but it will be one that I will revisit periodically as I do with the original on the PS Vita. The one major criticism I have is the bolting on of the multiplayer. As was touched on in the episode, I don't play Resident Evil titles for mulitplayer, and it feels like money and effort could have been better funnelled into the main game rather than a multiplayer effort. It seems like Capcom are set on pursuing multiplayer with the Resi IP with the upcoming RE:Verse title, which as far as I can tell, nobody is asking for. Still I could be proven wrong and given the stellar job Capcom have done on the Resi remakes thus far, I will continue to give them the benefit of the doubt. I really hope that they give Code Veronica the same treatment they gave to RE2 and 3.

I preferred RE3 remake to RE2. There was less of a focus on immersion breaking incongruous puzzles and more of a focus on having fun. Fewer times was I met with "I can't pick this tiny item up because I'm holding 6 other things" though there was still some of that broken, bad game design remaining from the original.
