Never mind the usual take a drink when you hear Dark Souls, the drinking game word for this episode was definitely ‘obtuse’. Lots of differing opinions. I really enjoyed my time with this remake.

Being a child of the 16 bit age I find it remarkable what was possible with 8 bit games. It's hard to believe that this is a remake of a Gameboy game when there's so much great gameplay here. I had the same experience with the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. What a fantastic game! It feels like it could have been made today, but it dates from 1989. I only wish the Link's Awakening remake had followed the Wonder Boy remake in allowing you to switch back to the original graphics with the press of a button. Regardless, I had a thoroughly good time with Link's Awakening, particularly the inclusion of Mushroom Kingdom enemies, the mermaid, the giant frog and fish who teach you Ocarina songs, the bear that swaps you a boomerang...basically all the cute weird stuff. I sent my friend a message while playing: 'I just resurrected a chicken buried under a statue using a song taught to me by a giant frog, so I could fly across a gap using said chicken to get a key'. This basically sums up the game for me. Excellent! The Eagle's Tower dungeon can go die a death though :-)

Funnily enough I'm just listening to the episode that covers the original version of this game. I am in the rare few who completed the original and also the new version. I loved both, so pretty and wholesome with a dark thread given it was all a dream (or was it)

Just before this came out, I decided to spend a load of coins or some such nonsense that I’d amassed with Nintendo on the 3DS shop GBC version. I finished it and really enjoyed it, but as a result no longer had any interest in playing the Switch version so the real money I’d set aside for this went elsewhere, and I doubt I’ll ever play it now. Great episode though!
