When this game became available on Game Pass, I rushed through one playthrough and as I was so familiar with the powers from the first game (I completed the full stealth route) I chose Corvo. I came away feeling underwhelmed and considering this a lesser experience than the original. After listening to this, I realised my mistake, and that I should have taken my time and chosen Emily. I feel like I missed out on a much better game because of this. I think I need a revisit, probably in five years once I chip away at my backlog. I also wanted to add to the voice actor discussion. On the whole, I find it incredibly naive and distasteful when film and game makers cast "Hollywood" stars instead of voice actors who understand the nuances of the performance and care more about the craft. That's not to say all screen stars are bad at voice acting, some are actually great; but they aren't necessary to the experience and in a lot of cases are actually a detriment.

Dishonored 2 is one of the few games I've played from beginning to end twice. Two amazing experiences, about a year apart. I finished the game once as Corvo with no powers and then later as Emily with powers. Two low-chaos runs through the beautiful, unique and entirely consistent world. As you play, there is knowledge to aquire, rules and systems to understand, and behaviours to observe. You don't have to slow down, watch or plan, but if you do, Dishonored rewards you, always... Always, except during some of the "special encounters". To me, with my playstyle, those encounters didn't feel like they fit this game in which every player death I experienced was deserved because it was due to my inability, not my lack of knowledge. That being said, Dishonored 2 is still one of my favorite games ever!

Given how much I enjoyed the first game, the luke-warm discussion around Dishonored 2's release worried me at first, be it the mediocre story or the PC port's performance, I thought that maybe Arkane might've not been able to replicate the magic of the first game. Fortunately, those worries were quicly dissipated. I found myself getting sucked in and immersed once again into their beautifully coinstructed world, and the new gameplay additions made it feel innovative yet familiar. Just like some of you guys, I did a stealth, low-chaos first playthrough with Emily, only to then massacre each and every one who opposed me as Corvo for the second round (a father's got to do what a father's got to do, even leaving my daughter frozen in stone to take the burden of the throne off of her shoulders). The story might've not been anything revolutionary, but the setting surrounding it, just like in the first game, is as fascinating as ever. Those two stand-out levels were just the cherry on top on an already amazing world. Having now played all of the games in the Dishonored franchise and Prey (2017), Arkane has become one of those developers I'll always be intereseted in what they come up with next, so now I'm very much looking forward to what Deathloop might bring to the table.

My mum got me this for Christmas a couple of years ago. I hated it, but kept it to come back to because she’d spent money on it. I reinstalled it a couple of months ago and gave it a really good go this time, but unfortunately I still hated it so it’s recently been sold on eBay! Enjoyed the show though, and not just because it made me feel better about getting rid of it!
