Bless you guys for uploading this just as I'm about to get on a train for two hours. Edit - also, salad cream is ungodly. Edited again to add - ditto mayonnaise. Ungodly condiments all.

Haha, love the retro food discussion. I remember thinking Angel Delight was the posh option! Instant Whip was the family staple at our house.

Chris Hayward

The Morissons knock off Angel Delight is surprisingly good if you can't find it in your local. Also do sugar free options depending on your tolerance of tasty tasty artificial chemicals 😂

I feel like I'm pushing against a slightly open door so I'm going to continue to do so 😁 Re: the moderation point, in three years of having a Discord group we've never had to moderate and we have almost 1000 members. The group self moderates. We've had one or two occasions where somebody has let themselves down, but the other members quickly shot it down. I'm sure this community would self moderate equally as well. I'll leave it there and leave it to you guys to ruminate further.

Following on from my comment in last month's thread, the other podcast that a large part in what games I played when I belatedly got into gaming was Filthy Casuals; an Australian comedy gaming podcast. It's actually the podcast that introduced me to Caine and Rinse, one of the hosts is a fan.

I’ve seen bad things written about Alita Battle Angel. I found it to be even better than fine. Glad you liked it Jay (it’s good to like things). Don’t expect anything life changing, Leon, but I might even go as far as to say it’s good. I sympathise with Miririn- I forget I’d written correspondence and then hear Leon read it out and think ‘wow, what an asinine point I made’ Thanks again for a great Patreon Monthly.

Jay: That’s just a bunch o’ faff mate, just slather a thick piece o’ cheddar in salad cream an’ slap it between two pieces of white bread ye? Also Jay: So I’ve been waiting for this very specific rice cooker for half a year now because it has a bespoke umami mode that just takes your rice to the next level, you wouldn’t believe it!

Magnus Berg

I feel like a C&R discord would work really well and would need very little moderation, if any at all. (Comment for Leon: Patreon-only is both a good way to create value for patrons and to mitigate drama. Only downside as I see it is it would certainly impact your forums) :)

Incredible chat this month, guys. Salad Cream definitely a condiment that needs more podcast coverage. A lifelong staple of my diet, I'll put it on nearly anything; salad, chips, roast veg, cold pizza and my absolute favourite, lasagne. It's so versatile. Also, Jay (I'm assuming), fantastic cover art for this episode. Staying on the food theme, I can't help but be impressed with Jay's ability to devour donuts and Whispers. Have you considered donating your body to science? :D Always a little highlight of the month when I get the notification that the Patreon exclusive is available. Thanks a lot both. Especially looking forward to The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima pods this month.

So that's what salad cream is (apart from minging). The phrase "I got into salad cream in the 90s" made me laugh, like the start to a really odd noir story.

Ben McSkelly

Yeah it would kill the forum, would only be used for feedback. But I feel Discord would be active. Maybe C&R can chat to their friends at Digital Foundry, I find their Patreon Discord very good

Ben Pollock

A+ chat guys! I was blown away with the nuance, and sheer amount of time you dedicated to answering my Q about piles of shame. To be clear, I'm not really using the term negatively either - like Leon, I feel immersed in gaming, and just knowing that I have a deep cupboard of content I can pull from any time I like is indeed something I feel very privelidged about. Thanks so much to everyone from the team for their input here, it was so great to hear the wide range of perspectives.

Having lived in America for the last 10 years, I'd forgotten about Salad Cream. Thanks for the nightmares.

Mike Bamford

Same here! Tommy would always reference C&R so he sent me here many moons ago

Mike Bamford

I spent a bit of time in Dubai with a lot of imported spreads - lots of american brands, but one particular supermarket had a peanut butter making machine. Peanuts in the top like coffee beans, peanut butter out the bottom. So nice and fresh, nothing artificial.

pconpi

Top tier waffling this month.

Jon Cheetham

Sounds like the peanut butter we bought to introduce peanuts to our daughter when weaning. Literally the only ingredient is peanuts. Tastes absolutely great

Jon Cheetham

Wow your chat about collectibles certainly made me wish my Star Wars figures hadn't been eaten by my mum's whippets years ago...

Thomas Geraghty

As soon as I heard your comment read out I thought "I bet it's filthy casuals" Glad to see Tommy's mentions have brought a few of us over. Now all we need is a Tommy appearance on the Switch console special, two hours of NX chat up front would make some quality content

pconpi

Whippets sound like something that could be in the Star Wars universe so fitting. Also, sorry for your loss.

Jon Cheetham

They look like it as well tbh with you! They have the same heads as the droids in the prequels

pconpi

Haha, true!

Still working my way through this. Listening to you (Leon) describe your love of video games chimed so much with me. I'm exactly the same. I am lucky enough to have a really settled and happy life and I play video games simply because I love them too.
