I was gonna pull the plug on my Patreon but definitely can’t now- just kidding C&R for life!

I am sure that part of the enjoyment that I get out of this saga is that “Zojirushi” sounds like a name someone would make up for a cyberpunk mega Corp.

Now I’ve seen the logo I am sure they are indeed such a megacorp, whose business interest span from rice cookers to resource mining on Jupiter.

The worst thing about this saga is using my own rice cooker; it pales in comparison. This is not a form of jealousy I thought existed.

Love cane and rice

I’ve had an almost identical parallel experience with a pressure washer. Finally arrived after 3 months though, and I hope the rice cooker is equally worth the wait!

I’m a newer C&R convert, and while having a discord and modernizing may be the way to go, I found something charming about having a forum in today’s world. I found it very quaint – in an age where tweets are news(or even presidential decrees), and watching twitch streams have replaced press reports and news stories. I think it was George Takei who was doing something a couple of years ago involving smaller internet communities having mods, and how that might make the internet tolerable. I admit I haven’t looked at how that’s turned out, but I’ve found much of the same, really: smaller communities that take away the anonymity of the internet and its problems and trade them for the ability to have a civil conversation. I’ve been a bit puzzled on why this works, but I imagine the smaller communities I’ve been discovering(including C&R) are too small to effectively troll(in that it’d be pretty obvious to see a bad actor), and that there’s just much bigger fish in the sea at the end of the day if that’s your goal. But the feeling I got from coming to the C&R forum, I imagine it’s the same sort of feeling that someone gets when they go to an antiquated town or some foreign villa. I haven’t as much lately, but I really did enjoy digging through the forums to find conversations taking place in a certain time in history, and giving some perspective. It’s a nice place that’s not too busy so that if you’ve been away, you’ve missed a lot, but busy enough its worth checking back in. It seems very thematic for C&R. There’s a lot of talk about the industry’s efforts(or lack thereof) to index itself and give a proper history to itself, and I think forums are apart of it. Discord says they cannot retrieve deleted messages(sounds suspect) and so much of the information we get now is ephemeral. Not that it can’t be recorded, but it has all turned into discords, subreddits and other chat groups that separate the community and effectively make it ‘invite only’. We can easily see the 'now', but no so much the past, which sort of ties back into C&R's modus operandi. Of course, at the opposite end of this, you have storied forums like EVO being shut down(they’re with sony now, I think they’re ok) because they don’t have the funds. Or even, when forums are updated(like with game informer), there’s problems in translating old content to new content. With all that in mind, I do think modernizing is worth it, especially if it’s gonna be to great a cost, monetarily or otherwise if you don't. -Raisinbman
