It's the first day of a brand spanking new year but here's a podcast* we recorded during the closing days of last year, in which we make an attempt - albeit in our usual, meandering kinda way - to answer your remaining "ask us anything" questions from back in Oct.But in addition to the usual waffly nonsense, we'd like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all of you who support our Patreon and here's hoping that 2022 ends up being a overall net positive year for each and every one of us!Much love.*If you enjoy this stuff, please give us a like

Hello Cane and Rinse team, I am a relatively new listener to your show (September) and have fallen in love with your in depth discussions about games I know or don’t know yet get interested by the interesting debates. I hope to interact more in the future and participate with comments on games I know. I have signed up the the forum but as far as I remember I have not received a confirmation. Best wishes from Germany, Julian

Good shout on asking people to like the posts. It's something I would always do but just never thing to do!

Not being a rice fan I’m relieved we have moved past the rice cooker era of Leon and Jay and I’m pleased to report that, for me, this was the finest chat you two have had yet. Happy new year!

Thanks for another monthly round up chaps. Great chewing the fat as per, plus I love it when you discuss your listeners comments. The audience participation makes C&R such a gem amongst so many other gaming podcasts. Plus it makes being a part of the patreon that extra but juicy! Have you ever thought about turning it up a notch? Perhaps doing an end of year poll of listeners favourite episodes or even have people sending in recordings of their questions to be played on the patreon exclusive episodes? I'm sure there's better ideas than these, they are just off the cuff thoughts but is it something that you might be interested in?

These are my favorite episodes. I love the rich conversations that you both have. Keep being awesome.

I feel like I have the opposite problem of the person who posed the last question: I sometimes feel a bit guilty that I don’t have MORE time for gaming because I know so many great games that I would enjoy just won’t get played. That said, I’ve found that it’s gotten easier and easier to just bounce off games that I don’t enjoy rather than pushing through “because a lot of people like it”.

When I heard Leon mention Activision, I had a feeling he was going to say Sekiro

Interesting discussion again this month on listener feedback and Discord. I'm in agreement with Leon and Jay in that locking listener contributions behind Patreon may not be the best idea. As someone who's had my contributions read out quite a few times, it's still genuinely exciting when I hear what I've written read out on the show. But sometimes I've sent something in and it's not been read out, and that's fine, I totally understand the reasons for this, time constraints, repeating what someone else has said or even just thoughts that aren't particularly interesting or add anything to the discussion. I know a good deal of work goes in to curating this feedback so that it fits well in to the show. But I think the danger of locking it behind a paywall could give the sense in some cases that there is an obligation to read something out, or that the listener is in some way 'owed' this for their financial contribution. And this could lead to either a poorer show which might not flow so well, or disgruntled Patreon subscribers who keep writing in but don't get read out. Regarding Discord, I've said it before the forum is the heart of the CaR community. It might be old fashioned, but I'd wager a high proportion of your listeners are over 30 and have grown up on forums. It's perfect for what it does, and the trouble with Discord is you have to be there to be part of the discussion as it's happening. People don't tend to scroll back 100s of messages to find a reply to a point they've made. The beauty of a forum is that it's permanent and not constrained by time. I think the forum lends itself to much deeper discussion and is far less disposable than Discord, where if you're not logged in at the right time, you miss out. Anyway, just my thoughts! Will continue to support Cane and Rinse for as long as you guys are going!

Happy New Year and congratulations on ten years of amazing work 🥳 You said what you do isn’t the be all end all but I think you’re selling it a bit short. I’d like to think that sharing things that bring us joy is the be all end all of being human. Yes, we need people with all different kinds of occupations in order to survive, but what’s the point of surviving if we’re not living? Since the dawn of time humans have been creating and sharing things simply for the enjoyment of it. It is equally as important in my book. So thank you all, again, for all the joy you continue to bring me with this show :)

In response to the top 10 list podcast question. How about a list of your favourite game from each of the first 10 seasons. Could be a nice little round table extra podcast. Just a thought. Like others have said really enjoyed this chat. Thanks

Another cracking listen chaps.. I know it's a little late to put this. but better late than never eh? I wanted to say a big thanks to you both for the candid chat about alcohol use a few months. Leon in particular, it was inspiring to hear your experiences of how you managed to change your relationship with the booze as well as not being compltely anti it. As someone who shares a complicated relationship with alcohol my and I freely admt I amalmost certainly dependent if not a an alcoholic albeit very high functioning. I think the points about boredom and habit were of particular interest to me, in that I feel this is when that monkey seems to scratch the most. Ironically, I can go without it and often feel much better for it.. Somehow though, the boredome does seem to put this to one side. I make no apologies for my use or indeed continued use, I don't think I've treated anyone horribly, become abusive and although I would probably be more fiscally sound if I gave it up, I have never put myself into financial peril in its pursuit. It is however incredibly easy to see how it does destroy some people from the inside out and those around them. I am not anti alcohol either, it was just interesting to hear an actual real world take that is not so binary about it. Thanks!
