All back to Zebes for the third instalment of our Metroid series of podcasts. Leon, Darren, Leah, Rich and community correspondents consider the hushed tones with which this second sequel is often spoken and consider if it is more widely renowned than it is widely played. The panel also looks at some of the changes and innovations made when compared to its 8-bit predecessors in terms of both aesthetics and design considerations, plus as usual we feature a selection of Three Word Reviews from our social media.Music featured in this issue:1. Great show guys. The comment that I submitted to the show was a negative one and I was worried I would be the only dissenting voice in the discussion of this sacred cow, so it was a relief to hear many other balanced criticisms, phew!

Leah’s comments about the SNES controller are something I totally agree with. I occasionally get hand cramps while gaming, but when I’m using an SNES or NES controller it is pretty much guaranteed. Also, regarding the talk about the control scheme, it made me think about how much the arrival of Playstation shifted gamers’ ideas of which buttons do what. Whenever I fire up a Nintendo system, there’s always a minute or two where I have to get accustomed to the different buttons. The Gamecube and Wii mitigated that difference a bit with their different controllers, though.

Great show all! Agree with Leon about not being able to map this one in my head. Playing through Hollow knight again and I can picture that map in my head and space out the different regions. For some reason the Super Metroid map doesn’t imprint on my brain.

Super episode. I really enjoy playing the Metroid Prime games but have always struggled with the original games. Loved listening to you guys though.
