William is a character I'd intended as a kind of liason between the organizational infrastructure of the plaguefighting operation and Tilly, the boots-on-the-ground frontline agent. That may yet come to pass, but for this sequence he functions as the lens through which we see some of that infrastructure.I modeled William loosely in appearance after Thomas Dolby, the musician. I wanted a sort of bookish, boy-next-office kind of look. I'm still very poor at keeping on model but that was my intent in any event. I also wanted to have a character with a visible disability because, well... They exist, always have existed and are underrepresented in media. Really, there's no good reason not to have someone like this. Still, as an able bodied person myself I'm attempting to approach this with due care and my plan is to make William's mobility a trait of his, but not a centrally defining characteristic or one that is explored with much depth. He's here to be a relevant secondary character in a high-stakes epidemiological battle, not that random guy who can't walk.To that end, William is here hard at work transmitting information to another terminal probably at one of the requisition branches in London with some regrettably bad news. I set the font size smaller with extra room in the rough bubble to suggest mumbling the words being typed that some people do.And bad news begets worse, as William receives a report from Covent Garden, a district in London's west end. This is the kind of information that the gentleman just two pages prior would have been relaying via telephone from the body lot. It's not a direct connection but I hope the implication is clear enough.
