Hey hey, Critters!

We have a whopping typhoon coming in the day after tomorrow (Saturday). It looks like it's supposed to hit us head on, or close. Even if it's not head on, look at that thing. It's bigger than Japan! My entire prefecture is that little blue dot.

Right now everyone is marveling (and terrified) that it went from a tropical storm to a category 5 in less that twenty four hours. They're calling it a monster and other grandiose names. It's currently still a cat 5, but expected to weaken before it hits. The problem is even if it weakens to a category 2, cat 2 was the size of the last typhoon (Faxai) that left millions without electricity and did so much damage. I have friends who just got their electricity back last week, only to have this next one ready to make landfall.

I'm not in my house at the moment (long story). I'm in an apartment, so I don't have to worry about my trees or garden or fence or garbage cans. I'm trying to prep as best as possible. And I think I'm as ready as can be. It's kind of useless to drive inland because there are so many mountains and the idea of landslides petrify me. I've seen too many news stories about them. So hunkering down and hoping Hagibis decides to turn around.

Once this gets gone, I'll post some photos and information about Gifu and my little trip.

Everyone stay safe. The world is insane, but we have each other.

XO,

terrie

P.S. In Japan we just call this Typhoon 19. No fancy name

Can't really do anything other than wish you luck and hope things don't go over too horribly for you. Please be safe!

Currently trying to find out if my Korean Air flight will be departing Tokyo on Saturday morning or not so I can book a hotel if need be! I feel your worry, and hopefully it won't be too bad! 💙

Oh no! Magdalena, you guys are to be leaving tomorrow? I hope you are able to fly out with no hassle at all. We have had a lot of duds and I heard that this one has slowed a tad. Hopefully just enough for you to fly.

We will be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

Wow, I am safely at home in the UK reading all the reports, I seriously hope that you and everyone else stays safe, this is one heck of a storm.

Magdalena, I am so glad you got your flight. I was thinking about you all day, possibly being stuck in an airport overnight. I'm okay, but, yeah, other parts of the city and up north weren't so lucky. Going to get in touch with friends and assess the damage.
