Hey hey, Everyone!

Just checking in. How are you all doing?

I'm working on the Bedtime Story right now and should get it to you by early next week. I'm going with a local story that I found in the book below. "Shimada no Minwa". "The Folklore of Shimada".

Shimada is a town near me, btw. I'm on a tengu kick. So expect tengu.

I'm also working on a binaural recording I did of the frogs and some seriously magnificent egrets? herons? that visited the flooded rice fields out back . Mostly frogs, but you can hear the birds calling to one another from across the field. It was pretty cool.

That's the little news.

The bigger news is Richard and are gradually changing our (korekara) life plan. The English school just seems too risky and not getting any less risky. To tell you the truth, I absolutely adore days chock full of writing, recording, learning, and dreaming up various audio dramas and narrations and writing some more.

You heard Richard's voice at the beginning of the 'Cursing Your Enemies' episode. Not bad. So we're thinking about hiring coaches and learning how to record audio books. He's really good with sound and we have the equipment, thanks to all of you. We just need to learn the ropes for real.

So that's exciting for me.

I've got a spotty health history (I'll share a Japan Times Article and a blog posts explaining), so inviting students into our house is a tad anxiety inducing. That said, I do have two classes that I've already promised would start in July. But two compared to dozens of classes is still doable. Masks, open windows, wiping everything down.

Oh, and I've got the Japan times Skyping with me tonight, another interview for a piece on Japanese ghosts and folktales, I believe.

XOOX,

T

P.S. Two links to why my doctors are telling me not to teach in my house.

Omg I’m glad you are okay after those health issues!! 😰 Didn’t know. Definitely taking the moral of the story with the clots. Luckily my watch yells at me to stand every hour. But I’m glad you’ve decided to take a new direction with your life plans. I think you’ll end up liking it a lot once you learn the ropes. Fingers crossed everything works out!

I love the Tengu. And the frogs/bird sounds. Looming forward to those. Not to sway you in one direction or another but, selfishly, I am excited about the audio book idea. I hope that takes root. What you both have done certainly suggests its worth the exploration.

Thank you, Jeffrey. Aren't tengu just wonderful? So multifaceted, cool, scary, kind, mysterious. We've been doing a lot of research and even thinking about building a tiny, very low cost recording booth in what was to have been a classroom.
