FULL CHAPTER HERE —> NERD IN THE NORTH 7-5

“My granddaughter.”The room seemed to dance around him for a second, the words from Hoster’s lips mixing with the sweetness of incense and sick-person stench. My granddaughter.

Greg knew a thing or two. Not entirely all that much, but at least a thing or two.

And of those two things, one of them was how people in Westeros seemed to expect things to be done. Whether it was bowing to a lady or not killing lords, there were all sorts of standards and practices that you had to be aware of and at least try to respect.Or at least be aware of.

Marriage was… kinda up there, it seemed; one of those things that were far more important than Greg thought it really should be. Unfortunately, he was finding more often than not that his opinion didn’t really matter much.

Paying attention in school gave him enough of a baseline, History class teaching him a little bit about this and the History Channel filling in the rest of the gaps. Granted, a ninth grade public school education and basic cable probably wasn’t the best foundation to build an understanding of the importance of medieval marriage but he’d make do.Simply put, lords married.

Easy enough, and pretty damn obvious. They married other lord’s daughters, usually, or sisters or cousins and nieces or sometimes their own — weird, yeah, but not all that important when you didn’t know enough about genetics to care about your babies coming out botched. There were reasons for all this; alliances, land, money, armies, wars. And, of course, kids.Heirs.

Nerd In the North 7-5

Castle-forged steel came down, the blade of the Night's Watch wreathed in orange fire he'd pulled from somewhere deep in his gut. Greg was offered land, wealth, titles, even the hand of a Lord Paramount's granddaughter, and STILLED refused to prolong Lord Tully's life. Why? Because Hoster was an ass, and because his granddaughter is not a commodity to be sold. I look forward to to the songs and tales that'll spring up around this moment. Remember: be fair to The Brightlord, and be fair to thy kith and kin, folks!

Isn't this supposed to be 7-4?

Hawthorne

Are you talking about the character classes? Because I scrolled through the post, and there was no 7-4.

... Oh this is going to become a fairy tale about pride, isn't it? Narrator: And so the sickly Trout lord thrust gift upon gift upon gift on to the Bright Lord, never asking what the lordling wanted, and demanded recompense for things he had not yet given. But the white bird of Veder would not be swayed by this gasping Trout, so ready to sell all it had for three months of life, even it's own blood would the fish sell to prolong it's longevity. But the one thing the wattery Trout would not even contemplate, was the thing the Bright Lord wanted most of all, for the Trout to humble itself. But it did not come, and the closed fist the fish tried to pry into an open hand with every offer and threat, closed ever tighter. With the Lordling leaving him with only his parting words; "You chose this...".
