I can’t wait for you to get into season 2, rewatching this with you is so fun, especially when I get to notice things I didn’t notice the first time around. I cried with you at the end lmao

s1 will go down as one of the best single seasons of anime of all time, rewatching it for the first time reminds me of how great this story truly is. A show without super crazy powers, just raw human emotion and an understanding of relationships between friends and enemies. Beautiful show

Ill say it one last time, as a Welshman myself, Askeladd is the Goat. He wasn't tolerating that disrespect for Wales, and stood on business. He will be missed. One of, if not the best character in Vinland Saga.

Birds are normally used to represent freedom since theyre free in the sky to go anywhere, Attack on Titan used this imagery alot too.

Vinland saga's manag started 2005, AoT started 2009. Eren def has a lot of Thorfinn in him though

Also it was the same type of bird shown pretty frequently on the first couple episodes at Iceland, reminding Thorfinn of his father again as well.

You are right that Thorfinn spent more time with Askeladd than with Thors. He spent 6 years with his Dad and 11 years with Askeladd.

Specifically looks like a Black Headed Gull. Seagulls where used as a sign for sailors and vikings that land was near, as they are coast-dwelling birds. Seagulls were a sign of hope when seeking land whilst at sea for days on end. Thorfinn was so close to leaving with Leif, but ultimately was distracted by the turbulence (in his heart metaphorically - and literally by the sailors on the pier, causing the seagull to flee beyond his grasp. The winds of change tragically pulled him back on course to seek revenge on Askeladd rather than settle in Vinland.

Glad you're enjoying the show. Like you said, it quickly became a favorite. You're gonna love season 2. Also, props -- you basically exactly predicted Askeladd's play and scorched earth path.

season 2 is really where thorfinns story starts

The scene of Thorfinn dropping the knife hits so much harder after you understand his arc in season 2.
