E 15mm F1.4 G (DNG Raw file download) (Patreon)
Content
This is Sony's first f/1.4 APS-C prime. It is also the first fully-featured APS-C prime lens (featuring an aperture ring, AF/MF switch and focus hold button).
It's 15mm focal length is equivalent to a 22.5mm full-frame angle of view. If you apply the 1.5x crop factor to the aperture, to determine equivalence in depth of field (not applied to the aperture for exposure), then the equivalent would be shooting in full frame with a 24mm prime at f/2.1. This will only create very shallow depth of field when using a wide-angle lens if you are very close to your primary subject, but the wide aperture may prove useful when shooting hand-held in very low light. You will see examples of both of these in the Raw files you can download.
Although 15mm is wide enough for Vloggers using a gimbal, it may prove a little tight if using Active SteadyShot on cameras such as the ZV-E10 which has a larger crop factor associated with its Active SteadyShot setting. If in doubt, you may be safer choosing the E 11mm f/1.8 when using a Bluetooth grip and Active SteadyShot on the ZV-E10.
When using the maximum aperture in full sun, you will need to manually select ISO 50, as the maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 second on the APS-C cameras is not enough to prevent overexposure at ISO 100 (the lowest possible in ISO Auto).
