Unfortunately both movies were specifically designed to be sci-fi network events but with commercial breaks (I was 13 when this came out and watched it live). The storytelling with the Adama stuff was weak to begin with. I think they wanted to drive home that 1. Without Roslin, Adama could have turned into Cain. 2. Doing the smart thing over the right thing EVERY time will lead you to lose your humanity. **There was a short lived show called Caprica, that had Joseph Adama as a main character. It went into the Tauron war that Cain grew up in. In hindsight this had lore to drop that was expanded in Caprica.**

Caprica was such a disappointment... Wanting the Adama family at the center wasn't believable but how the first Cylon came to be was (and it could happen before we know it)

In the flashbacks all the ships and so on the vipers and cylon raiders, centurions basestars etc are the same as they were in the old 1970s battlestar show, its part of the story of course but also some sweet fan service that we got to see them fighting with more modern effects, also bobby and this girl have new zealand accents

Jamaal Ellison

Lee sounded like he was trying to do an impression of Adama when giving out those wings to Shaw.

The Testimony of Mushroom

It was cool how the newer show is a completely fresh start but they wrote in a history where cyclons that look like the old show had attacked. Nothing that happened in the old show matters because it is a different universe. Unless you take the phrase "all of this has happened before, and it will happen again" as a big nod to the characters and plot points that the writers adapted from the old show.

I like to think that was an older cycle, why not, pretty sure RDM meant it that way.
