#SundayRundown I already like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms more than HOTD. House of the Dragon doesn’t have the heart of other George R.R. Martin projects because it’s based on his fictional history book. They finally gave us two characters to cheer for again with AKOTSK. It’s nice to have an endearing and empathetic character in the universe again. He may be Dunk the Lunk, thick as a castle wall, but he has a heart of gold.

Rishi Shukla

They got the actors for Dunk and Egg 100% right and that will go a long way to making this show really good. They also made you care about both of them within 40 minutes; looking forward to the remaining episodes.

Veya

Nah. The family stuff in HotD can definitely generate heartfelt moments when they aren't at each other's throats. You're telling me Viserys's throne walk wasn't heart? That was one of the most touching scene in all of the GoT universe shows. It's more about how stuff is written rather than what the source material is.

Veya

i thought the exact same thing about the baratheon lord. i don't if that actor modeled his mannerisms after peter dinklage but it definitely gave tyrion vibes. the mustache and similar hair doesn't help as well.

Bob

Game of thrones universe is beloved BECAUSE it gave us realistic characters that we didnt cheer for all the time. Its what made me pay attention to the show for the first time. usual fantasy shows just have the MCs be near perfect. But im also fine with this theme as Dunk is that honorable a man.

Sean Carleton

Maybe it's because I read the books before I watched the show. But Game of Thrones was incredible until they had to move away from Martin's dialogue. I don't like HOTD at all. There are morally flexible characters in GOT, but I am typically drawn to the good people deep down, like John, Tyrion, and Davos. In HOTD, I don't care who lives or dies.

#SundayRundown Sorry for the long read. As a gigantic A Song of Ice and Fire fan, this hit the mark almost perfectly for me. There are a few things that made me scratch my head, like the age of Lyonel (he's supposed to be around in his early 20s) and later on with Baelor Breakspear and Maekar Targaryen that were shown in the trailers. They’re supposed to be in their mid-to-late 30s, but their actors look closer to their late 40s to late 50s for some odd reason. Aside from that, and a handful of other minor changes, what really sold it, though, was the acting and how well they captured what George always says about his world. The colors and heraldry were spot-on. I was genuinely giddy over House Ashford guards and heraldry everywhere, House Dondarrion’s pavilion and heraldry even if it was in the back ground, and the Fossoway embroidery on the armor of Steffon Fossoway, and I actually gaped at House Baratheon’s pavilion, especially the party happening inside it. That sense of life, color, and excess felt exactly right for Westeros, especially with some of George's famous descriptions on the books. This was a solid 9/10 for me!

Just, does anyone else besides me feel embarrassed to watch yet another GRRM series when he’s betrayed his promises on his own books multiple times, not to mention failing by over a decade (16 years?) to complete book 6 of 7? There are plenty of books whose endings I’ve hated, but at least the writers actually finished their books and series. Not saying you have to feel the way I do, just asking if maybe some of you share that frustration bordering on something heavier.

Veya, I completely agree, especially after the drama surrounding the writing in S2 of HotD. With all 3 shows you can easily see the difference between seasons that have George's hand on the wheel in the writers room vs. him not even getting a phone call from the writers. Hopefully this new production staff don't kick him to the curb too. Because they could do alot with this show, especially if it's successful enough. I'm talking, Shewolves of Winterfell, 4th Blackfyre Rebellion, meeting Black Betha Blackwood, meeting Jenny of Oldstones, and The Destruction of Summerhall when Rhaegar is born. Every season just shows little snapshots of Dunc and Egg all the way up till the end of their journey together.

SergeTroy

BTW Chris, Dunk & Egg (the opening novella shot in this first season) came out before A Knight’s Tale.

Dabossman702

Addidas do better with the outfits 😭😂

Dante Sparda

Idk especially since GRRM hates HOTD right now

Jacob Livingston

The show has already been green lit for 3 seasons. Season 2 drops in 27 and season 3 in 28

Just to clarify he doesn't get to choose which horse to give up if he loses, its the horse he would be riding in the joust which is Thunder the red war horse, easily the most expensive one. he's riding the white one 'Sweetfoot' to save the strength and stamina of Thunder.

Sean Carleton

I love GRMM, so it makes sense that we both hate HoTD.

Veya

GRMM praised elements of HoTD and was on board with the show in the first season lol. He even said Viserys in the show is better than the version he wrote. He only fell out with the writers in the second season due to some adaption choices.

PurportedGrey

I think that was probably George’s main point when comparing S1 to S2. S1 adapted that section of Fire & Blood extremely well, taking the Septon and Mushroom's accounts, choosing definitive versions where they conflicted, and expanding scenes in ways that still felt faithful to the text and story it was telling. As an adaptation, it was about as accurate as you can reasonably expect fro. Duch a weird source material, and honestly it was on par with some of the best seasons of GoT in that respect. Season 2, by contrast, feels like a hodgepodge of poorly thought-out creative decisions for half the cast (to the point where Aegon’s actor was reportedly inventing much of his own material). Expanding on what characters are doing early in the war is perfectly resonable and needed in some instances, but Daemon’s extended stay at Harrenhal all season felt tonally off, Rhaenyra’s Sept spy mission was borderline absurd, and several lore changes were outright backwards, like inventing a Darklyn–Targaryen marriage in Aegon the Conqueror’s generation, when canonically it was just Aegon and his sisters. Instead of meaningful developments, much of the season felt like putting characters on a metaphorical merry-go-round until the plot was ready for them, rather than showing something with real substance, like the guerrilla war Benjicot Blackwood was waging in the Riverlands or introduce us to Jon Roxton in preparation for next season, or just something nore than seeing Dragonstone, Harrenhal, or KG for the 30th time.

#SundayRundown One of the things i like about this show is that it shows us life in Westeros during "normal" times. The other two shows we have watched show us very significant events (Targaryen civil war in HotD; War of 5 Kings and The long night in GoT) which are very disruptive. This is a calmer time in Westeros, though things do happen. I think its also very interesting to get our first look at Targaryen rule without dragons (I think Marketa wasnt sure if the dragons are gone by now, but they definitely are). I've always felt this was a very fascinating point in the history of Westeros because how do the Targaryens maintain power without dragons? Why didnt the 7 major Houses declare independence? But I dont think it is a coincidence that some of the most famous Targaryens we know come from this era, they had to step up their game.

#SundayRundown I’m sorry, but since when did Westeros become a sitcom? Watching the Game of Thrones theme get interrupted by a graphic 'poop gag' isn't 'refreshing' it’s just juvenile. I come to this franchise for high-stakes political intrigue and grit, and hardcore nudity not the kind of humor you’d find in a 2000s teen movie. It feels like HBO is chasing a younger audience and losing the 'Prestige TV' edge that made the original show a masterpiece. In other words this show blows

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN. Thanks for the spoiler marketa. I don't understand why people think they're being clever giving subtle hints but are actually just outright spoiling a potential huge part of the story. Any halfway intelligent person can guess what marketas talking about.

Gamara204

I don't know why, but I don't like knowing how many seasons get approved for a show, like I like knowing there is gonna be more, but don't tell me how much cause then I'm gonna try to pace out the story in my head for that amount of time and start counting the clock down

Jacob Livingston

That is very fair, I apologize. I assumed it was pretty well known since it was announced when the show was first greenlit.

Armani 🐢

Seriously. Least subtle person on the couch lol
