Earth Sucks. | Battlestar Galactica 4x11 "Sometimes a Great Notion" | Normies Group Reaction

Earth Sucks. I'm glad I don't live there. The crew of Galactica discover that Earth is a nuclear wasteland, and was formerly a Cylon-inhabited planet. Laura Roslin is devastated by the discovery, and is unable to lead the fleet. Anders, Tyrol, and Tigh have flashbacks to their final moments on Earth, two thousand years ago. Lee and Dualla have a brief moment of happiness together. Macs

I completely forgot, 2 eps a week. Awesome, thank you.

Drueisms

You were right, definitely need to restock the tissues for the second half of this season! I love the tone shift. Buckle up, Normies! Let's see how right you have been about who is and isn't a Cylon, and what any of this means...

Drueisms

I'm not sure who first said it, but someone introduced the idea that the Cylons are a hybrid, which the show has never said. Maybe misremembering what the "hybrid" Cylon ship person was? The only confirmed Cylon+human hybrid is Hera. Remember the visions that Six, Athena, Baltar, and Roslin are all having revolve around her, specifically.

Gambit3838

Been dreading this day for quite a while.

One of the hardest episodes to television to watch. One of the greatest episodes of television to watch. Good thing they resolved the 2008 writers strike or this episode would have ended up being the series finale!

Normies really said fuck Kobol. And they don't know what a colony is, LOL. So let me put it this way: everybody was on Kobol, which was the homeworld for everyone, it got nuked, so the thirteen tribes left. Twelve tribes formed the twelve colonies, the thirteenth tribe went another way and founded Earth. The twelve were never on Earth, only the thirteenth was.

Whaaatt…I didn’t know you were gonna post this today! So excited.

"2000 years is a long time to forget." It's called the show runner not liking sci-fi mythos and writing himself into a corner. ; )

#SundayRundown Lore refresher: Many thousands of years ago, the 13 tribes originated on Kobol, not Earth. (Kobol is where the crew of Galactica accessed the tomb of Athena using the Arrow of Apollo in an earlier season.) Twelve of the tribes left Kobol and formed the 12 colonies (Caprica and the 11 other planets), and the 13th tribe left separately and, according to legend, settled on a planet called Earth. We now find out that they (the 13th tribe) were Cylons, meaning the 12 tribes of humans were creating Cylons even back on Kobol, but those 12 tribes who formed the 12 colonies were and are HUMAN. As we discover in this episode, the 13th tribe built their own sentient machines on Earth after settling there, machines which eventually nuked the whole planet 2000 years before our cast of characters arrived this episode. The 'Final Five' (Tigh, Tyrol, Tory, Anders, and Ellen) were citizens of Earth when it was nuked 2000 years ago, as we see from their memories, but they are Cylons, because the entire 13th tribe who settled on Earth were all cylons. All those people on Earth in the memories of The Five were Cylons. This is why the Final Five are different. Most of the cylons we see in the series are humanoid models developed by the Cylon machines created by the 12 colonies. The Final Five are humanoid Cylons who can age and breed, and are descendants of the 13th tribe of Kobol. A more perfect Cylon, if you will. Hope that clears some things up.

Guys, it's in every intro: - Humans created Cylons. - Cylons rebelled. - Cylons evolved. All of this has happened before. 4,000 years ago those evolved cylons left Kobol and eventually found Earth. 2,000 years later, the 12 tribes left Kobol in a Great Exodus. It's never been clarified exactly why. At the same time, there was a nuclear war on Earth. If you notice how the humanoid cylons treat their centurions, it's kinda obvious what went down on Earth. All will be revealed. The question is, will it happen again?

Lol @ the Normies getting piled on in the comments. All of this confusion has happened before, and all of this confusion will happen again 🙃

It truly is...and for those that may not see it as such, take in to consideration this: earth, the place we all thought was finally here after ALL the horrible things and years we witnessed. The struggle, the loss, a ragtag fleet drifting in space trying to be the best representation of the human race "Worthy of Survival" (one of the soundtracks from the brilliant Bear Mcreary) ...comes to find the one hope and dream they had doesn't exist. Dualla was the Primary Communications Officer of the fleet. She was always the voice of reason. She was dedicated, empathetic. She was loving and caring. She was driven and a voice of reason. Especially to Admiral Adama. She was the one who told him to bring the fleet back home and made Adama plan the rescue mission. Even the the Admiral went to her for advice. She had a lot of heart. But being so strong is not always so easy. Dualla made sure she enjoyed her last day and left with a smile and it was not an act. Sometimes being an Anchor can be too heavy a burden. The FLEET just lost an exceptional example of the human race and all of what I just stated.....it is absolutely crushing. If someone that was such a great positive honest role model for the fleet can do this, then you know the realize how of the fleet is really feeling it to...I cry every time I watch this one. ok too many tears, I'm done typing xD

I don't think it's been clarified. The original cylons that left Kobol for Earth could have children normally. I could explain more but there's going to be an exposition dump that's going to fill in a lot in the coming episodes.

Kamina 1

Since when have they been doing the 2 episodes of week thing for BSG? Now I'm starting to think I missed some reactions 😭

Macs

This is the first week I think

Frankie H

There were twelve planets though. Spidey was right on that. That's what it says on the battlestar wiki.

Kamina 1

My bad Spidey man. As some patrons pointed out to me, there were literally 12 Planets. Not 1. Also, after thinking about it more, immediately shooting down a theory you had is borderline a spoiler. Hopefully you didn't see my comment. Again, sorry bro. I will be more careful next time I comment, and fact check myself before I pass something off as law as if i know wtf I'm talking about lol. 🤐🫡

Andy

The Significant Seven humanoid Cylons (models 1-8) were not created by the Cylon machines that were created by the 12 colonies.
