Omg no way!! Both eps?! Why do I have to work??? 😭

Y'all are here to react to Heated Rivalry, and I'm here to react to Rana reacting to Heated Rivalry 😂 especially during episode 5's hospital scene and the ending! Rana, never change!😂❤️

Tyler

As a gay viewer of yours, I am so happy to see how excited Rana has been watching this show and how invested she has been in this story. Hopefully with this show becoming so mainstream it opens the door for more queer stories like this to be told and gets more people who otherwise wouldn't watch something like this to go back and catch themselves up on so many of the amazing queer stories that are out there already. Look forward to any future reactions you all have to queer media!

Jérémy

Rana keeps cracking me up in these reactions. That sunset in Tampa Bay is indeed fake but it's not a green screen. They filmed in front of what they call a "Volume". It's a huge screen that shows footage kind of like a giant tv I guess. They used the Volume for a bunch of scenes: all the backgrounds in Las Vegas, the background of Sochi when they are in that Café in episode 2, the Aquarium in episode 4, some of the driving scenes in episode 6 and some more I forgot about. Obviously this level of production can't fly out to locations like Tampa Bay so this is both cheaper and I think they still managed to make it look incredible.

Jaydelle

Also cool to see the parallels of Shane and his mom being planners. Shane planning his future with Ilya (after their Svetlana convo) and Shane's mom going into planning mode after their conversation when Shane comes out. I think there were other moments in the show where they both show they're planners too that don't come to mind right now, but I found it a neat touch.

How do I get y'all to watch interview with the vampire

EarthMix Stan

Please react to the compliment battle and thirst tweets interview videos with Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie! Also Hudson Williams on Jimmy Fallon was a great video to watch too! I think y'all would love them :)

Michaela Rosková

Please, consider watching some of their interview videos to see their actual personalities. I think you would enjoy the compliment battle video or thirst tweets. Also, yes, Chris. Please get into ice hockey. As a Czech person, I've been a fan of this sport since I was little and grew up watching The World Championships with my family. Few years back, I got into watching NHL games because a few of my favorite Czech players are in the league. David Pastrnak aka one of the best players in NHL and in Czechia has been playing for Boston (Rozanov's team) since 2014 after being drafted. Anyway, thank you so much for these reaction. I'll be rewatching them many many times. Your reaction was actually my 26th rewatch! Again, as I said before. I'm so glad there are still people like you that can read between the lines and have media literacy. I've seen a lot of reactions to this show (probably all of them) but your is my favorite for sure! Rana's excitement is everything! I don't have anyone in my circle that is as happy and obsessed about this show but seeing her makes me feel like I'm not alone in this jail. Thank you :) Can't wait for season 2. I just know it's gonna be a ride and Connor will have to pay for my therapy sessions!

The Dad: We knew you could be gay, we just are uncomfortable about it being Ilya. Shane: It was a... "Heated Rivalry"

Not long after the show came out me & my boyfriend said "cannot wait to see how our fave Normies react to this - I bet Rana LOVES it". Love that our fave streamers lived up to our expectations! Also hilarious that Rana had already watched twice beforehand! Great as always guys, Rana your drinks are on us when you visit the UK!

im so happy but now so sad its over! i loved watching this again with you guys, the girls especially getting emotional made me more emotional! the scene where shane apologizes to his mom for being gay is so fucking heartbreaking and im so happy he doesnt have shitty parents. 5 and 6 are such amazing episodes, the pacing of 5 is incredible for how much they packed into it. i adore ilya being a sweet lover boy when you start out thinking hes just an asshole. the writing is so good, nothing ever feels awkward or weirdly out of place, it all matters. on a funnier note, people have memed about what happened when ilya and shanes dad were inside the house while shane and his mom were outside having their beautiful convo. like did they sit in silence drinking vodka? haha (i havent fully read the book yet so idk if it says anything) you guys are an absolute blast to watch with. and i hope you will consider the netflix show Heartstopper after this, its only 3 seasons\24 eps (moving coming soon as the series finale) its a really sweet and beautiful queer story as well that tackles heavier topics, one of my all time faves and would make for really fun reactions from yall. much love guys!

#SundayRundown Ilya and his one sided beef with both Rose and Hayden is hilarious. He can't stand either of them being close to Shane, it's like anyone that takes Shane's attention away from him for more than a minute is an enemy. I love how it was Shane's parents that found out first about their relationship but a part of me feels like Svetlana already knows too. She's really smart (her breakdown of the MLH teams in episode 2 showcased how astute she is) and knows Ilya so well, and I'm sure that the fact that he never introduced her to "Jane" is what led her to realize it was a guy, but also a guy that has to hide, and outside of hockey, Ilya only really chills with her, so by deduction it has to be someone he met through hockey, and after you figure all that out, it's the easiest thing in the world to connect Shane to "Jane" because Ilya wasn't as slick as he thought he was when he came up with those names, lol.

Chris K.

It was on poll before! I did my best 😪hopefully next time

Chris K.

"She would have loved you" is one of my fave lines and moments in the show. Totally get Ketty's reaction here 🥲Can't believe the Normies already pulled up to the cottage! (Btw, a Canadian cottage is just any house near a body of water, or so I've heard) It went by so fast but it was so fun! Thanks yall. Rana's face journey and giggles were hilarious.

Thank you for understanding that Ilya/Shane’s journey is uniquely their own. I often see constant comparisons between Scott/Kip and Ilya/Shane, especially people suggesting Ilya/Shane should "just do it" (come out) because Scott did. The dynamics of these two relationships are fundamentally different and cannot be compared. While it is easy to be swept up in Scott/Kip’s chemistry, I am more moved by the high-stakes endurance of Shane/Ilya relationship. A direct comparison feels reductive because it flattens the complexities of their lives: the age gap, the physical distance, and their internal battles for self-acceptance. Given the political climate in Russia and their status as active on-ice rivals, they aren't just playing a different game—they are surviving a different world. Age and History Scott/Kip met as adults (ages 26–28) when Scott was an established NHL veteran and Kip was entering graduate school. Their struggle was about integrating into each other’s existing worlds. Conversely, Shane/Ilya met at 17 and spent nearly a decade in a mutual struggle of secrecy and rivalry. This shared trauma and triumph during their formative years forged them; they didn't just grow together, they grew up together. Proximity and Self Acceptance Scott/Kip benefited from constant proximity and the stability of living together for months, allowing them to navigate self-acceptance as a unit. Even while closeted to the public, Scott could fully accept his sexuality within their shared space. Shane/Ilya were hindered by extreme isolation, limited to seeing each other briefly only 2-3 times a year. This distance slowed their personal growth: -Shane remained in denial for years, convinced he "hadn't met the right girl yet" until his relationship with Rose forced him to face the truth. -Ilya accepted his bisexuality early on but viewed a committed relationship with a man as a complete and total impossibility. His ties to Russia meant that being outed wouldn't just cost him his career; it would risk his physical safety through potential repatriation. Profession and Stakes Scott/Kip had the luxury of a relatively "safe exit" through retirement or external careers. For Shane/Ilya, their rivalry is a powder keg. If their romance were revealed, every play would become a liability. They would face microscopic scrutiny, where every missed shot or defensive lapse could be branded as a calculated betrayal or a "thrown" game. Beyond the loss of contracts and social ostracization, the stakes for Ilya are existential, as his presence in the country could be revoked. What makes Ilya/Shane’s connection so enthralling is the fierce resilience of their love. Despite years of adversity, their passion for each other remains an unbreakable, sustaining force.

Kris

I love that while we, as viewers, saw their love connection coming from a mile away, for Ilya and Shane, hearing the other one say I love you was a complete and genuine shock. Meeting at only 17 years old and only seeing each other 2-3 times a year for nearly a decade kept their bond in a state of arrested development. It wasn't until they felt that feeling of domesticity at Ilya’s home that they finally viewed one another as a potential couple. The feelings were always there, but the vision of even the possibility of a future together wasn't. Their greatest obstacles were internal. While Ilya was shackled by his ties to Russia, it was a deeper sense of unworthiness—born of family trauma—that convinced him Shane was 'too perfect' for someone so broken. Shane, meanwhile, lived behind a rigid heteronormative mask, using compulsory heterosexuality to wall off his true self. Because they both viewed a relationship as impossible; for them, the emotional breakthrough was profound. It is especially poignant that Ilya—despite his deep-seated insecurities—was the one to say "I love you" first. Seeing a character who felt so unworthy of love finally claim it is exceptionally powerful. In episode 6, as soon as Shane confirms he loves him, we see Ilya rapidly transition from emotionally unavailable to "boyfriend behavior". I've heard some people say that this shift is inconsistent with his personality, but it's not. Instead, it is the direct result of certainty finally replacing survival instincts. For years, Ilya’s self-worth was eroded by a family and a country that viewed his existence as a moral failure. To survive, he categorized Shane as a "casual hookup" to protect himself from the rejection he felt was inevitable. This wasn't coldness; it was a trauma-induced barrier. As soon as Shane makes it perfectly clear that he loves him and wants them to be together long-term Ilya's internal struggle ends. He now knows everything he needs to know. Because Ilya’s loyalty is absolute, once he realizes he's "allowed" to love Shane without the fear of inevitable abandonment, he's completely committed. His "boyfriend behavior" is simply his natural intensity finally being given a safe place to land.

Interesting Book Facts / Improvised TV Series Moments Improvised TV Series Moments: Getting Caught by Dad: The scene where Shane gets caught with Ilya at the cottage was scripted, however, Hudson Williams improvised Shane's reaction during the scene. This unscripted, spontaneous, and emotional performance resulted in a more authentic and impactful moment than Jacob Tierney originally planned. Orgasmic Phone Call: The playful oral sex scene was largely improvised. During rehearsals, the actors began goofing off and hitting each other, which led to a "slap" and shoving match that they filmed on their phones. The intimacy coordinator, Chala Hunter, and director Jacob Tierney loved the organic energy and told them to "go crazy" with it for the final take. Small Physical Touches: While the major sex scenes were strictly choreographed for safety, the "in-between" moments—such as small kisses, lingering touches, and organic physical reactions—were often left to the actors' discretion. Williams noted that these unscripted choices helped differentiate their relationship in the finale as "boyfriends" rather than just "fuck buddies". Character Micro-Expressions: Hudson Williams has stated that he intentionally brought many physical quirks to Shane—such as specific facial expressions, teary eyes, and a quivering chin—that were not explicitly written in the script to better reveal Shane's internal struggle. Unscripted Kissing: Connor Storrie confirmed in interviews that he and Williams were comfortable enough to add unscripted kissing during scenes to make the relationship feel more lived-in and natural. One specific improvised kissing scene was the post first time-stairwell goodbye kiss. This is so incredibly authentic that it actually caused the intimacy coordinator to wonder if was real and ask Hudson and Connor if they were okay. Interesting Book Facts: Shane's Accident: Ugh, I hope this comment about Shane's injury doesn't make me sound like a book-purist snob, but it's only regarding this one scene! I've actually really liked most of the show's adaptations - which makes it even harder to say that I really dislike this one decision... I appreciate the show’s push for higher drama, but the change to Shane’s injury felt a bit out of character for me. In the book, his injury is a result of pure physical intensity on the ice, which highlights his elite dedication to the sport. In my opinion, the show's decision to frame it as a distraction caused by Shane's focus on Ilya (rather than the game) changes the fundamental dynamic between Shane and Ilya's rivalry -which is much more intense and prevalent in the books. Their connection is a catalyst for excellence—they push each other to their limits, making one another better and more focused. The show's choice to have Shane lose that focus feels like it diminishes his identity as an elite professional athlete, especially as a team captain. It turns their relationship into a distraction, instead of the very thing that motivates and fuels their competitive edge. I guess I just prefer the version, where their rivalry actually drives them to play harder and better rather than weakening their focus. *Ilya's Car Collection: In the book Ilya is known for his love of fast, flashy cars. His collection is both extensive and expensive and features high end sports cars like a Porsche 718 Cayman, a Porsche Spyder and a Lamborghini. While the exact, total dollar value of the entire collection isn't explicitly mentioned, it is implied to be worth millions. Shane finds the collection "ridiculous". He often worries about the associated risks/dangers of driving the cars and is terrified Ilya will die in a crash. *Shane's Freckles: Ilya mentions Shane freckles during their conversation on the couch. The he used to describe them were: - "they are stunning.... am I not using that word right? Very beautiful. Um...take my breath away?" They're not only the first thing that he noticed about Shane's physical appearance, they're also one of his favorite things. We see how much Ilya loves them in episode 5 when he sweetly caresses them while visiting Shane in the hospital. *Ilya's Declaration of Love - in Russian: After Shane presents Ilya with his detailed plan to be together. Ilya is deeply moved—to the point of tears—by the sheer amount of effort and "mental gymnastics" Shane has put into ensuring they have a future together. He's so overwhelmed by Shane's dedication, Ilya whispers "Lyublyu tebya" (Люблю тебя) which means "I love you" in Russian. This follows Ilya's typical pattern of muttering in his native language during intimate moments. Immediately realizing he is speaking Russian and that Shane doesn't understand, Ilya corrects himself, switching to English to ensure Shane understands his confession. *Ilya's Parent's Age Gap and Marriage: When he was born in 2003, his mother, Irina, was in her twenties, while his father, Gregori, was already in his late fifties—a glaring 20-to-30-year age gap. In the book Ilya often looked back on his parent's marriage with a sense of sadness, wondering how such a young, beautiful, vibrant woman became tethered to such an unloving, angry, overbearing old man. *Ilya's Mother's "Accident": Desperate to hide his wife's battle with depression and protect his standing and reputation, Grigori made a 12-year-old Ilya responsible for covering up her suicide . After 12-year-old Ilya found her, he was coerced into lying, telling everyone she mistakenly took too many headache piils. This enforced silence defines much of Ilya's trauma. It didn't just hide the truth; it stole his right to greive, He was forced to bear the full weight of a tragedy he was never permitted to acknowledge, which in turn compounded his grief and isolation.

I'm surprised not more people have recommended Interview with the Vampire series in replacement of Heated Rivalry. It's a very overlapped fandom to where in the nee trailer of it, people are making a lot of Heated Rivalry references. lol
