Snowfall today?!

The Normies

No. Snowfall is Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I love this episode. Great reaction too. Props to Chris for clocking the Eiffel Tower was symbolizing Tony’s coma trip. Carmela’s Paris trip is one of my fav parts of this season. What’s strange is the year this episode came out I went to Italy and visited the Colosseum & it’s one of the few places where you can actually touch the artefact instead of it being behind glass. I still can’t describe the sort of, for lack of a better word, “spiritual” moment I had. I’m not religious at all but in that moment, my hand touching stone bricks thousands of years old, it was an awakening. Again not in any religious sense but…just like Carmela says, all the lives that have come & gone, all of them long dead & buried, forgotten. Yet here we are. You get this feeling of immense dread, but also beauty and appreciation. We could’ve been born at any time in human history. And we kinda won the lottery. We get air conditioning, iPads, computers, vaccines. Imagine how bad everything must have smelt? Piles of feces everywhere, body odor, bad breath. Even childbirth was a crapshoot. Getting pregnant back in the day must’ve been terrifying. Good percentage of women died in childbirth. It’s a miracle the human race exists at all. The urge to bone one another is so strong it overrides our senses. Especially smell. The stink, the heat, the diseases. Feminine hygiene wasn’t exactly a thing until relatively recently. And the clothing people wore. Imagine the heat in the summer wearing cotton or wool? We take so much for granted! I can flip a switch and somehow electricity turns on my lights and the electricity somehow come from like miles away. When we take a dump we flush and there’s an entire network of pipes that takes everyone’s waste to a water treatment plant. I can get on a plane and in 8 hours be half way around the world AND I can watch YouTube while doing it. These are miracles & I have zero idea how any of it works. Magnets are involved somehow. That’s all I know. But I digress…oh! Yes, it is a theory that Phil Leotardo is gay. Him literally appearing out of the closet is beautiful. Crazy to think only 10 episodes left. The last 9 episodes are just…man. You guys are so lucky. But I do wonder how much has been spoiled just in a pop culture way. I’d have to imagine theres no way at least one of them don’t know how the show ends.

it's great that tony found a middle ground between completely letting aj off the hook and beating him. just destroy his stuff instead lol. also the phil thing isn't on the nose, it's meant to show that's just how he chose to execute someone like vito. it's too blatant. it's like saying a mobster shoving a rat in an informant's mouth is on the nose. it's showing a process of procedure and personality. the carmela parts of the episode are some of the most important and ties into many themes that are running throughout the series, especially in this season: the tension between the ideas of immutability and change. the statues and architecture in this episode plus the dinosaur in a previous episode and the general idea of homophobia in the mob ties into the former and tony taking in some lessons from the therapy and making some gradual improvements in regards to aj ties into the latter. even other things like him falling back into his cheating old habits and vito coming back and immediately trying to get back into the game but not be technically part of their crew ties into both ideas running concurrently. and in regards to vito coming back, we also have to remember that these people have been in this life for decades. they aren't teens or young adults. they've had a lot longer for the lifestyle and subculture to really set in.

Phil literally coming out of the closet to inflict the pain he feels is due for his own proclivities is one of my favorite subtle details in this series, they never go over it in detail but the extent to which Phil is disgusted, beating Vito to death, and the pool que all add up to a very troubled man who refuses to do any introspection whatsoever.

#SundayRundown If you ever find yourself saying "I'm just breaking balls here!" in the Sopranos-verse, know that you have a very short window to get the fuck out of there.

Michael Colorado

#SundayRundown please don't watch the godfather the pacing is so slow and there are much better mob movies you can watch like Casino or Analyze This or Scarface or Goodfellas or American Gangster

I genuinely think France broke Carmela (to a degree). I believe she started crying cause she has finally realized how, ultimately, she is no one. She has no actual relevance. Back home she's like the Queen Bee. She has a massive superiority complex, and often shows it in her interactions (especially with other women), because of the status she gets by being Tony's wife. But that's just New Jersey, and France taught her she's just a slightly big fish in a relatively small pond. During her vacation she got to see soo many things made by people that were actually relevant, and yet ended up being generally forgotten. So anything could happen in Carmela's life (or to her loved ones) and the world would keep going as always, since they don't actually matter. Some actors may leave the stage, but the play doesn't stop. It goes on, and on, and on...

Trash argument. Without The Godfather, Scarface, American Gangster, Casino, and Analyze This, wouldn’t exist. Like, actually think and get off TikTok, also they’ve already seen Goodfellas

He was also locked up for 20 years so it’s possible but it’s still unclear overall

Adam Vialpando

20 years? Where did you get that number? I have never heard a peep about the amount of years Phil did in the can.

Adam Vialpando

Funny enough real mobsters have said that despite people legitimately getting killed because of breaking balls, most of them still did it. Because apparently if you DON'T break balls they start calling you a wuss and all kinds of things. God the Mafia is full of morons. They deserved to fall.

BindingofNack

A self respecting man like Phil Leotardo would *never* complain, certainly least about the compromises he had to make!

Darcey

I'm totally down with Suraj's suggestion to take a break and watch the 2 Godfather movies

Just FYI, Vito's widow isn't Phil's sister, she's his cousin. So Phil and Vito were not brothers-in-law.
