Sure, it's not as obscure as the films we normally celebrate. Sure, you've all seen this flick dozens of times. But if we did a summer of 1986 film retrospective without talking about James Cameron's Aliens...GAME OVER MAN!!! We use Aliens as the jumping off point for a discussion of what makes a truly great sequel. We also pinpoint what makes the Cameron director's cut so phenomenal. Haven't listened to it yet? Come on, corps, assholes and elbows!!!!

Note: Yes, Brian accidentally calls it Alien at the top of the show. He's a dummy, let's all agree and move on.  :)

Cargill did a great job of delineating much of what makes a successful sequel. I'd like to add another bullet point...a great sequel not only expands on the premise but also retro-actively expands on the narrative details of the original film. 'Godfather Part 2,' ---- 'Lethal Weapon 2' ---- 'Terminator 2' ---- 'How To Train Your Dragon 2' ---- 'Back to the Future 2 & 3' ---- Batman v Superman'

Nice to see Lethal Weapon 2 on your list. That's one of my favorite sequels.

Have you guys seen the extended edition of The A-Team movie? I watched it recently and, for the most part, the extra stuff didn't really add anything important to the story and even messed up the flow of the action at times. However, the longer version of them discovering the identity of the mysterious Arab should have been left in the theatrical cut. It's extremely intense with Face being so pissed off as to come close to committing murder.

The only way to watch Alien3 is through the extended cut. It's almost an alternate version of the film, and closer to what David Fincher was going for.

Listening a bit late. It's kinda funny coming into the podcast hearing "I bet everyone has seen this" when I have not only never seen this film, but have never seen ANY film in this franchise. Mostly because I was not born when it was released and never could see it when I was younger, and as an adult I've zero interest in seeing films in the horror genre. That said, I may check out Aliens after listening to this, you guys did a great job of selling it. The first one likely not due to the lack of interest in horror I mentioned before.
