The crew lands on a backwater mud-farming town where Jayne Cobb of all people has become a living folk hero. Worshiped as “The Hero of Canton,” Jayne is forced to confront both the consequences of his past and the absurdity of being idolized for the wrong reasons. Meanwhile, Simon struggles to fit in while River has her own strange — and often hilarious — reactions to faith and scripture. Between drunken ballads, unexpected moral dilemmas, and classic Joss Whedon wit, “Jaynestown” delivers equal parts comedy and character depth, cementing itself as a standout episode of the short-lived cult series.
