Ah, the end of series 2โ€ฆI think my favourite episode is probably Money, but tbh theyโ€™re all quality. I canโ€™t wait to see your reaction to Series 3โ€ฆalthough itโ€™s my least favourite series of the 2-4 run, itโ€™s still amazingly consistent and funny.

Firefly24601

It's not a REAL "throwback to the pando" video until you have the ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ˜

Hell3Quin

I'm not sure I can pick a favourite but my least favourite episode is definitely Bells, purely bc I don't really like Gabrielle Gloister's performance as Bob. She's much better later on and in other things but I think this was quite early in her career & went to uni with one of the writers. Oh and the romantic compilation joke too. Am I misremembering or do they actually use the phrase "I have a cunning plan" very much or at all this season? They do say cunning and plan.

Hell3Quin

And the Baby Eating Bishop of Bath & Wells played the evil SS officer in Raiders of the Lost Ark too.

Stephen Wray

Little bit of paranoia there being a guard

Nolan

Strange. In my brain for years, I'd somehow convinced myself it was Lord Flashheart as the one disguised as the Queen at the end, having killed everyone. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ross Nolan

I've said it before but transforming your main character from a repulsive, sniveling buffoon to a suave, witty scoundrel must be one of the biggest swings in sitcom history - and one of the most successful. Series 2 is probably my favourite but 3 and 4 are very good too. Also don't forget the Christmas special comes in between 3 and 4 chronologically.

Vina

Blackadder's last lines to the Queen were very cute!

Ross Nolan

It is surprisingly genuinely romantic!

Mark Ten

Id forgotten how good the S02 portrayal of Black Adder himself was. Potato was my fave this time around.

Troy Convers

Probably the weakest episode of series 2 and it's still a banger; I use the 'pointless' line to this day. Still confused why the initial henchmen were Spanish but everyone afterwards was German.

dhollanda

For me, it is the fourth episode. Bishop kills me everytime.

Ashtara Levin

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ "Head" for me, it was probably the one that subverted my expectations the most and so I found it the most entertaining.

Lintrinsic

By way of explanation (not excusing it) Yeah some of the comedy didn't age well, but at the time there were still well known comedians, one in particular doing the rounds, getting sitcoms and gameshow gigs when their stand up act was anecdotes about "friends" and most of it was exactly as Blackadder described with added sexism and homophobia. I always saw this as a dig at that brand of comedian, but no way would it be suitable to present it that way today. Some was also commentary on how a some British people behave abroad (and unfortunately still do) Racists however, never got the irony and eventually comedy based on "we're making fun of racists while broadcasting a load of racist rhetoric and are somehow surprised we got a following of racists" was phased out from British TV. Incidentally the "comedian" I mentioned above is still around and turns up on "news" channels like GBNews, TalkTV and the gutter press complaining that you can't tell "jokes" anymore, "it's political correctness/woke gone mad" and is a rentagob whenever someone faces consequences for their bigotry, and has a podcast that's probably in the same vein.

Spain and the Holy Roman Empire (present day Germany), though separate political entities, were closely linked in the 16th century as both were ruled by the Habsburg dynasty.

clara trevlyn

Also "Blackadder - the Cavalier Years," which is chronologically between Series 2 and 3, being a short special produced for Comic Relief.

clara trevlyn

She and Ben Elton both attended Godalming Grammar School.

Hell3Quin

Yes but actually marrying her would be a deaths sentence for him.

tal goren

ok, but why was that guy inquisition while everybody else were just in it for the ransom?

Troy Convers

Just say Jim Davidson and be done with it. ๐Ÿ™„

Lintrinsic

He's the prime candidate, but he certainly wasn't the only stand-up doing that schtick. I did name him over on Discord, I was reluctant to foul this post with his name I suppose.

David Shadwell

And back in S3 as Wordsworth, Byron or Shelley - Can't remember which one he plays. And Lee Cornes is back in S4 as well. Almost a regular by that point.

David Shadwell

This is the weakest ep in S2 by a long way but then it is such a high bar that has been set. And, yes some of the jokes are dated but I think they were having a dig at comedians who still used those types of racial stereotype jokes in their acts. Just think it doesn't really land but there we go.
